Renewing Remnant

My alarm went off as I got out of my bed in Remnant. It was nice to sleep in this bed after so long. As I got up, I had a nagging feeling that I was forgetting something, but with Soul Archive, I don't really forget anything. I scratched my head and went back over yesterday and last night. I then recalled that I did not pay Skadi a visit when I was over at Type-Moon. She was on a business trip since she was managing my company in my stead, with Maiya serving as her bodyguard. I'll have to take her out on a date later, but for now, it's time for monster-hunting school.

I opened a portal to my dorm room with Cinder to change into my school uniform. It's a strange feeling; I have never had to wear a uniform in my previous life or during my travels through the multiverse. I walked into the dorm room and heard the fiery woman in the shower, so I quickly changed and then walked by Team RWBY's room. I heard them causing a ruckus, so I knocked repeatedly. Ruby answered the door.

" Oh! Morning, Silva!"

" Morning, Ruby. What in the world are you doing?"

" Decorating!"

The little cookie monster answered me excitedly, and I saw the beds piled on top of each other. I asked with a bit of amusement.

" Not enough room?"

" Why are you here!?"

Weiss demanded as she pushed Ruby aside, and I shrugged as I answered.

" I heard the commotion going on and was curious."

" I fail to see how anything going on in my, I mean our dorm room, is a concern of yours."

I then gave my reasoning for the snow princess.

" Well, Ruby is a friend, Yang and I know each other, Blake is also an acquaintance, and I am sure Winter wants me to keep an eye on you."

Weiss looked thoughtfully constipated as she tried to come up with a counterargument, and Ruby interjected.

" Silva, mind helping us convert our beds into bunk beds?"

" Bunk beds?"

The snow princess asked her team leader as if she did not hear correctly, and Blake added.

" It seems efficient."

Yang just scowled at me as things were still complicated between us, and I invited myself into the dorm room. Before Ruby could give me instructions, I positioned two of the beds and used Transmutation to make them into proper bunk beds. I repeated the process so Team RWBY won't use those falling hazard versions of their bunk beds like in the canon. After all, I don't want them to get hurt unexpectedly while they are sleeping.

The little cookie monster gawked at me and asked excitedly.

" How did you do that!?"

" Magic."

I joked before reminding them.

" Classes should start soon; we better hurry."

I walked out of the dorm room and proceeded to head to my first class as a Huntsman-in-training, although I was likely going to sleep through the lesson since I had studied in advance.

I, Silva Zelretch Branwen, am questioning my life choices. I knew I would be bored out of my mind, but not to this extent. Peter Port continues monologuing about his youth and past adventures. I had already dozed off several times since the start of his class, and unfortunately, I was too well-rested to sleep through the entire class. At least with Doctor Oobleck's teaching, his constant zipping around keeping me on my toes and adding his own insights on various points of history made his class a bit more interesting. I banged my head against the desk and groaned with a question for my roommate.

" Is it combat class yet?"

" Unfortunately, no, but I share the sentiment."

Cinder replied as she tried to take notes, emphasizing trying. She had dozed off a few times like me, despite her display of diligence. The fiery woman commented as she scorned Professor Port.

" Some Huntsmen and Huntresses are better off sticking to fieldwork than teaching."

" No arguments here."

I eyed the woman next to me as I knew her goals and that she was acting as if she viewed herself above everyone else with the fact she had the Fall Maiden's powers. Unfortunately for her, I had already installed some magical kill switches within her in the event she tried to harm anyone I cared about or crossed my bottom line. Time ticked away during class, and I noticed Ruby goofing around to deal with the stress of her situation, and I chuckled a bit at her nervousness. Weiss finally exploded at Port's question about who possesses the qualities of Huntsmen and Huntresses.

" I do, sir!"

" Excellent, Miss Schnee. Come down and face your opponent."

I looked at the caged Boaratusk and quipped.

" Definitely the highlight of the class. Here's to hoping for repeat visits from Grimm during class."

" Doubtful."

Cinder added cooly, and Weiss reappeared in her combat attire and weapon in hand. Professor Port lets loose the Grimm as the rest of Team RWBY cheers for their teammate, and, of course, the snow princess snaps at her leader and not the others. The fight was quick as while Weiss did get disarmed at first for trying to directly face the Grimm she got her weapon back and knocked the monster onto its back to pierce its exposed belly. While her teammates cheered for her, she sent a glare... My way!?

What is her problem with me now? Shouldn't her ire be directed at Ruby for thinking her unworthy of being the leader? Never mind, she redirected her glare at her leader. The class then finally ended, and as I exited the classroom, I heard Weiss and Ruby's little spat.

" Weiss, what's wrong with you? Why are you being-?"

" What's wrong with me!?"

The snow princess snapped at the little cookie monster.

" Allow me to enlighten you. You are two years my junior and have a lack of discipline, and yet you are the leader of this team for what? Nothing, you have yet to prove yourself in any capacity. At the same time, I have pushed myself to limits in combat school and taken part in various live exercises thanks to my sister in the Atlas military. Then you continue to act like a child instead of an adult with the responsibility and honor of being the team leader. The headmaster made a mistake. It's as simple as that."

Weiss marched off, and I walked up to Ruby and told her.

" Ruby, don't go taking anything Weiss has said to heart, it's just the first day, and you are already under pressure to catch up since you skipped two years ahead."

" But what if she's right and-?"

" Ruby, just as I don't know, you don't either about your capacity as a leader, but I do think someone of the headmaster's experience knows what to look for in a leader. Just give it time to see whether or not you are worthy, and if you show that you are wearing the badge and burden it with the understanding it's not something you can just take off and pass to another. Now if you excuse me, I have to go give a certain snow princess a piece of my mind."

I left Ruby as I went to track down Weiss and found her on a balcony overlooking the courtyard. I called out to her.

" Weiss!"

She looked at me and frowned. She tried to leave without a word, but I stood in her path, so the snow princess demanded.

" Move!"

I asked her with a bit of annoyance, as I thought she might have matured more without her father's influence, but I guess I was wrong.

" What is your problem, Weiss?"

" My problem!? My problem is with-!"

" I'll tell you; you are acting like a spoiled brat that is used to getting everything they want, and now that you are being denied, you are throwing a temper tantrum. And another thing, why in the world did you glare at me when I haven't done anything to earn your ire recently?"

Weiss looked at me in stunned silence for a few moments, which quickly morphed into indignation.

" How dare you!"

" Exactly the attitude I was talking about, and you think that makes you more deserving of being a leader. It only proves my point."

" You, you, I hate you! Who are you to enter my family's life, to date my sister, and still see other women despite being with her?! I don't know how you are deceiving her and Mom, but I won't stand by and let you do what you want with the Schnee family!"

I sighed and got a bit angry, so I retorted coldly.

" Says the girl that could not go against her father as he ran your family name through the mud before he was dealt with."

" I was just a child and-."

" Excuses. Whatever your problem is with me, fine. However, you do not get to decide who's right or wrong about who should be the leader of your team, but I can tell you and plenty of people will agree with me. No one would trust you with the lives of others as you are right now."

Weiss bristles as she demands.

" What do you know!?"

" I can ask you the same, Weiss. What do you know about me, Ruby, and what it takes to be a leader? I can guess the answer. You know nothing, Weiss Schnee."

After saying my piece, I left for the next class regardless of the snow princess's emotional state.

How dare he!?

This thought echoed in Weiss's mind as she raged throughout the day, even skipping today's classes as she lost track of time as she fumed and was lost in thought. As she finally noticed that night had graced the day, she went to return to her dorm room. She saw a light in Ruby's bed and went to see her leader surrounded by notebooks and textbooks but asleep. The snow princess realized in surprise that the little cookie monster was desperately trying to catch up.

It galled Weiss to no end that she had to admit to herself that Silva was right, but she came to terms with it. She sighed as she shook Ruby awake, and the little cookie monster woke up startled. The snow princess hushed her leader and asked in a whisper.

" Shush. How do you take your coffee?"

It took Ruby a moment to process the question, and she answered in a whisper so as not to wake the rest of her team.

" With cream and five sugars!"

Weiss made a quick cup of coffee from what was left over from earlier and handed it to her leader before apologizing.

" I owe you an apology, Ruby. I was... Mistaken and out of line, sorry."

" It's fine, Weiss. You weren't completely wrong. I got a lot of catching up to do, as you can see."

Ruby quickly forgave her teammate, and Weiss then said.

" I will try to be better and less..."

" Weiss-y."

The little cookie monster joked, and the snow princess rolled her eyes but nodded nonetheless, and Weiss then pointed out Ruby's notes to change the subject.

" By the way that's wrong."

The little cookie monster started to look over her notes to make the correction, and the snow princess added.

" You know, I always wanted bunk beds."

" Really?"

Ruby asked with interest, and Weiss nodded in reply before going to get changed for the night. Then, she heard the call of dreamland and...

Nightmares.
