1 Colorless

In the end, death embraces everyone but to some, death is not the end. Let us focus on the story ahead of us on the death of one person them their reincarnation.

One man lived a rather full life but solitary life, much to his regret. He may traveled across the world, experienced many things, met interesting people, and tried various exotic foods at least once, but he made no lasting connections. It was mainly by choice has he known his personality well enough that he is distrustful by nature.

This is due to some parts experience and some parts preference as he had some bad luck with people throughout his life, people pretending to be friends only to use him, women trying to get something out of him one way or another. He, however, never hated his life because his patent helped him make it through, but when they died, he felt a void in his life he could not fill.

A few times, he tried to change and open up to people because he knew the only way to fill the void was to make relationships with people, but his luck with people was never any good as they just made him jaded and closed off. So he tried to fill the void he felt within with travel, unique experiences, and good food, but that only made him feel something but not fulfilled.

Here he resides in his home left to him by his parents with no relatives, old and alone, unable to travel like he used to, but he found a way to kill time regardless. Anime, TV shows, novels, comics, webtoons, mangas, and various other types of entertainment filled his home. Currently, he is rewatching one is favorite shows, RWBY, for the thousandth time. As he stopped at Volume 8 for the night, he got up as his body creaked and ached and commented.

" You were right, Mom; getting old sucks."

As he got up and went to his bedroom, his current companion came up to him and rubbed up against his legs.

" Watch yourself, Jasper; I don't want to step on you."

His cat Jasper was an old grey striped tom cat that has been with him for 15 years now. Though he felt it was a little pathetic that his only friends were the pets he kept in his 87 years of life still, he enjoyed their company more often than not. Unfortunately, Jasper was likely going to be his last pet because he could not take up another one at his age since he could barely get around anymore and likely only had a few more years of life in him.

As he got into bed and tried to sleep, his mind wandered to his regrets like it had been for the last couple of years as of late. He regretted never starting a family either by finding a nice woman to be with or adopting a kid or two. He regretted not saying so many things to his parents before they died, and he regretted not finding something that made his life feel more even before the void he feels even now. He sighed as his thoughts died down as he felt sleep take him for the last time.

In a vast plain of nothingness and the void, an entity entered it; it was a man-shaped humanoid made of purple-black energy with the only distinguishing feature was a pair of ram-like horns adorning his head. He is the God of Darkness from a world that is a remnant of its former self, and he ranted in frustration.

" Brother, you are far too forgiving at times; that so-called hero you sent is hardly effective against the traitorous which that dared to manipulate you and me. Of course, he will have difficulty moving against her because, despite what she has become, he still loves her. We may have given our creation the power of choice, but somethings they don't have a choice at all towards."

As the God of Darkness ranted in the void about his brother and his "optimistic" expectations towards their old creations, he noticed something old in the plain of nothingness.

" A soul!? Here!? How?"

He went to the soul and examined it, then made some conclusions.

" Hmm... this a soul from another universe, interesting. It has some knowledge of the world me and my brother left behind though incomplete, which is not too surprising as all of humanity throughout the multiverse is connected to the great unconsciousness that transcends time and space while sharing a blurry border the imagination plain where ideas and feelings float around. So it only views the events that happen there as a work of fiction."

As the God of Darkness examined the soul, he wondered out loud.

" What to do with you? Hmm... these fanfics within its memories present some interesting ideas, but I learned my lesson the last time about freely granting any gifts to humanity last time when that witch turned them against my brother and me."

As the God of Darkness pondered as he held the soul, trying to decide its fate, he made his decision after an unknown amount of time passed by in the void.

" I guess a small mercy won't hurt me, and if it proves to be a disappointment, I will ignore it as it reaches the end of its next life as per usual, but if it proves to be worthy then... some gifts won't be out of the question but only if it shows itself to be worthy of them. Now let's give you a trial to start your new journey; how will you change if you are born in vastly different circumstances while retaining your old memories. After all, you have a more positive or rather more realistic impression of me over my brother, which makes you more tolerable."

The God of Darkness opened a portal overlooking a world from space and sent that soul to the world and commented.

" Let's see how you fare in a world that you love despite only seeing a simplified fraction of it."

Just outside the borders of the kingdom of Mistral, within a fordfied encampment, a new life enters the world of Remnant. A woman with various scars across her body is giving birth.

" Push now; our new tribe member is almost out."

Helping the woman was an old crone with sun-kissed skin and gray hair tied up in a single large braid with piercing gray eyes. She was in a black shawl that covered most of her body and supported he body with a large walking stick or rather a wooden cudgel with a wolf-like face sculpted on one side of it, and the other side was covered in a metal plating, making it more like a weapon. The birthing woman cursed at the crone.

" Shut it, Den Mother, and give me some Brother's curse it, pain killers!"

" We're out, so make due with my company for the time being."

The old crone retorted coldly as she held the birthing woman's hand to help in some small way. Soon the woman relaxed and slumped down, and the midwife there took the child and spanked it, then said.

" Congratulations, it's a beast."

The midwife called the child a beast due to its arms looking nothing like a human's but more along the lines of a large cat's. The crone, identified as the Den Mother, said as she sneered at the child.

" That's what you get for screwing with animals, missy."

The mother of the child shrugged, not caring about the insults towards her newborn, and said.

" Just put it with the rest of whelps because it is not my problem anymore because we can't exactly toss it out because the chief would probably skin us alive for tossing out our new "family" member."

The Den Mother snorted and replied.

" True, after all, she left her daughter back at Vale with her sperm donor instead of bringing her into the tribe as she should have. Regardless, the tribe has done better under her leadership, so best not say that to her face because she is not above setting examples."

The Den Mother then ordered the midwife.

" You heard her take the cub to the whelps at the nursery and be done with it."

The midwife obeyed and carried the newborn off. The crone then looked at the new mother and told her.

" As for you. You need to rest for at least a couple of weeks and hold off on your usual "fun". Am I clear?"

" What in the heck am I suppose to due then!?"

The Den Mother shrugged uncaringly and replied.

" Figure something out for yourself since you won't have that little beast to take care of, but it's only a couple of weeks, and from what I am hearing, the Chief has something big planned around that time."

" Good, my last plaything died not too long ago, and I need a new one."

The Den Mother huffed and asked.

" Wasn't the last one the little beast's father?"

" Slightly more sturdy than what I usually get, plus I got a new animal skin pelt that is quite nice."

The Den Mother hummed in reply and said.

" Get some rest. You will need it."

" Yeah, yeah. Beat it, you old bat, so that I can rest."

Unbeknownst to them, the child that was brought into this world will cause some changes in this broken world, both big and small.
