Painful Rewards

'Why the hell did I do that?'

That was the first thing Izuku thought, wondering why he chose to endure the pain.

He had decided on this option because he knew his mom wouldn't be home for a while.

There was also the fact that if he wanted to be a hero, he would have to get used to pain.

At first, all he felt was a group of sharp pains in his abdomen, slowly increasing in number, it felt like needles were being pushed into him.

'It's not as bad as I thought it would be.'

Slowly counting the time until the pain was over, Izuku began to think about everything that had happened today, wondering how everything was going to change now that he had the system.

Around the 15-minute mark, the pain increased, seemingly increasing in size, spreading to his chest.

It felt as if there was a hammering in his lungs, causing his breathing to slow, becoming slightly shallow.

Counting once again, time slowly passed, and the feeling of constant hammering was slowly fading as if it was never a problem.

Then it came, around the 30-minute mark, a new, worse pain emerged.

Seemingly out of nowhere, clawing its way in, the pain that had firmly nestled into his heart, causing Izuku to let out a damped yell.

The pain continued for another five minutes before Izuku could tolerate it.

'I should have just gone under when I had the opportunity to.'

'Either way, I didn't, so there's no use complaining about something I can't change.'

'It still fucking hurts either way though, wish I could do something about that.'

As if almost immediately after saying this, he remembered that there were some painkillers in the medicine cabinet.

Carrying himself out of the bathtub, he walked over to the cabinet, when he finally found them, the pain had subsided quite a bit, almost as if it had disappeared.

Noticing this, Izuku had assumed that it was approaching the 45-minute mark, he saw at every quarter of the hour the pain would fade, and the next one would come in like a pro hero fighting a villain, meaning, that shit would hurt.

Uncapping the pill bottle, Izuku took out the towel and downed two of the small white pills.

'Bitter.'

Izuku knew that the pills would take a few minutes to take effect, but even the smallest amount of help would be wonderful right now.

As he was about to stuff himself back into the tub, that suffocating came back, worse than ever.

It seemed that every single cell in his body was turning against each other.

Izuku couldn't stand it, the pain was too much.

Falling to the ground he began to gag, blood had come up his throat again, but this time he couldn't keep it down.

Within the next minute, there was a small puddle of blood, dark in color with what looked like a black goop mixed into it.

After a few more minutes Izuku could feel the pain ease a bit, enough for him to at least think of other things at the moment.

'Finally.'

With the ease of the pain, Izuku knew that the meds were finally making themselves known.

Now that he could think, Izuku began to come up with ideas of what his quirk would be, he at least wanted to be one that he could use in the field.

The more he thought, the more the pain eased, and the more the pain eased, the more time passed.

Then finally the hour Mark had been hit, and with it came a message.

Noticing that the pain was gone, he quickly cleaned up the mess, got dressed, and headed to his room.

Once he was finally done he looked at the blinking message within his vision.

[Congratulations user]

[You have completed the Body Reconstruction process whilst being awake, resulting in the appearance of a|Trait|.]

[Trait gained]

[Immovable will]

[Description: Once you put your mind to something you'll do it, no matter what you will complete your goal.]

[Rewards have been given]

[External rewards will be available within the inventory.]

As Izuku saw the message he was instantly excited, he finally had a quirk.

He hurriedly opened the |Powers| tab, and there it was.

[Quirk: Mimic]

[Description: The ability to copy someone or something, you can copy anything from personality, body movement, or even quirks (or powers) if you want, be reminded that at this level of the quirk, you can only copy powers by touching the original users, at this moment you cannot copy powers that change the body significantly (high-level mutant types).]

As Izuku saw this he was flabbergasted, he didn't even know what to think, with this he could be a great hero.

As he was about to close the system he suddenly remembered his other rewards, he then decided to check the other tabs.

In the [Skills] tab there was only one skill called [Observe], and in the [Traits] tab there was a new one called [Ambidextrous] from the names he could probably guess and get them right, but he decided to check the description anyway just to be sure.

[Observe]

[Description: Allows you to see basic information about someone or something.]

[Ambidextrous]

[Description: Right, left, does it matter? You can use both of your and just like the dominant, very useful for all of your menial tasks.]

'Just like I thought.'

Closing out of the menus and navigating to the [Inventory], Izuku decided to check the other reward in the form of a weapon.

Opening it, all he saw were what looked like thousands of boxes, with little tabs at the top sorting them into different categories.

Clicking the one mark [Weapons], the screen zoomed in on a set of boxes, in one of them lay a metal baseball bat.

Reaching toward the box, Izuku tried to grab the bat, and before he knew it, there it was, in his hand.

Waving it around, Izuku could feel the weight this thing carried with it, or it was just that he was weak, he hoped it wasn't the latter.

Dropping the bat, it made a loud thud.

'Yup, heavy.'

Finally, he went to his computer to search for videos on how to use his quirk, something for him to help get a feel for the new power inside of him.

Turns out there were educational videos for new quirk awakeners, yeah they were for children, but this was the best help he could get right now.

An hour later and with an ungodly amount of children's entertainment consumed, Izuku had a grasp on how to use his quirk, well, for just getting a quirk at his age that is.

"I wonder how mom's gonna react when she finds out I have a quirk."

As if on cue, the door to the living room sounded, and the voice of his mom called him.

"Izuku, I got you some food if your hungry."

"Coming mom."

As Izuku went to the dining room he saw his mom with slight bags under her eyes, she had started working as a nurse recently, and it had started to cut into her sleep time.

He sighed, his mom really wanted to become a surgeon and she needed to have experience in the field as a prerequisite.

As Izuku sat down, his mother looked at him with a stern gaze, at that moment he knew that he had fucked up, his mom didn't get angry a lot, but if she did there was hell to pay.

"What were you thinking Izuku, why would you go running into a villain attack like that?!"

'Fuck.'

As Izuku heard this he quickly explained himself, saying that he was doing it to save Bakugo.

Hearing this, Inko's gaze softened, leaving nothing but a soft expression.

"So, there's something I have to talk to you about."

"What is it, honey?" At this moment nothing could surprise her, her son had fought a villain, saved his friend, and was invited to join a couple of hero agencies.

"Well, I might have a quirk."

At that moment the world around Inko seemed to slow, and the last thing she remembered was the words that came out of her son's mouth.
