1 I'm Not Ready To Die

There I was, standing in the middle of the road like an idiot, stunned and unable to run. My best friend, Nacina, was standing safely away from me on the sidewalk, desperately beckoning me to her but her screams fell on mute ears as I stared mesmerized by the giant ball of fire hurtling towards me. Today started so normally, I would've never guessed that it'd be the day I die.

Earlier...

As usual, my mom entered my bedroom and shook me.

"Hey get up, you have to get ready for school." She nagged. I merely groaned in response, both refusing to, and unable to move.

"Mom... why can't you just let my alarm clock wake me up?" I stated groggily, just as I completed my sentence my alarm clock began screaming at me so I quickly switched it off.

"Don't you prefer me gently waking you; instead of that noisy thing?" Mom inquired, she awaited my answer, but due to my sleepiness, I could only glare at the ceiling. Several seconds later I answered her,

"No..." My mom decided it was a good idea to yank my covers off of me. "Ah!! Mom stop! It's cold!" I screeched and my mom only laughed to herself, leaving the room with my covers as she yelled back at me,

"Hurry up and get dressed." She commanded. I swear she does this every morning just to spite me. I quickly went to the bathroom to take a shower, then carefully pulled on my uniform. After I finished with my hair I stared at myself in the full-length mirror on my bedroom door... Why do I keep hoping for something different everyday?... this uniform obviously will never look good on me. I grabbed the oversized white hoodie I wear every day and pulled it on over my uniform. After eating breakfast I headed outside to meet with my best friend, Nacina.

"Hey, Akina!" She shouted while waving at me. "I had this crazy dream last night! Do you want to hear about it?" Did she ask? I gave her a weak smile and nodded. She seemed excited to tell me about her dream on our walk to school... which reminds me, I had a crazy dream last night as well...

"I was a samurai princess in my dream or something like that, and I had to battle this giant turtle, monster, thing. It was all like 'Nacina even you cannot defeat me!' and I was like 'Don't you dare underestimate me, Idiot!' then I charged at him head-on. He was fast, especially for a turtle creature but it didn't matter! I dodged all his attacks and as soon as I saw an opening BAM I slit that bastard's throat. Blood was everywhere, I wish you could've seen it, Aki." As Nacina retold the events of her dream she became very animated and I couldn't help being amused.

"I think you might be watching too much anime." I teased.

"There is no such thing!" Nacina retorted, once again gaining energy. I laughed at her response and my perky friend straightened her back, proud to have made me laugh so early in the morning. Which is actually a very big accomplishment. "Oh yeah.." Nacina began speaking again, "There was a guy in my dream." She mentioned.

"Oh really? Was he someone we know?" I asked, hoping it was so I could pick on her about it.

"No... well... actually, he looked a lot like the guardian." After that statement, I decided it would be better if the conversation ended there.

Presently, we humans are protected by Angels also known as Guardians. At least that's what we call them, but they're actually an Alien race called Infaniyans. We are seen as livestock by the Infaniyan's natural enemy, the Afarions; with who they have been fighting a war for centuries. In many cases, Afarions enslave humans and feed off of them until their victims die. We're basically an easy power and food source to them. The Infaniyans claim to be protecting us, but they really just want to hinder their enemies as much as possible. Aside from fighting the Afarions, they make little to no contact with humans. Almost as if they consider us as lesser beings.

For as long as I've known our city has been protected by one, very strong and high ranking, Guardian, and for just as long pretty much every girl I know has been in love with him. I've never seen him up close and I can't really understand having a crush on someone I don't know.

"I had a dream too," I mentioned, to change the subject.

"Oh really? What was it about?" Nacina asked with great enthusiasm. Where does she get all this energy...?

"Well... everything around me was in flames, I was alone and no matter how loudly I screamed, no one came to save me," I stated.

"Oh, so it's that dream again," Nacina stated while tapping her chin. "The fact that it's a recurring dream is kind of ominous. Maybe it's a premonition of the future." She suggested. I shook the thought away.

"I really hope not," I replied. In the midst of our conversation, we were suddenly assaulted by unbearable heat. I looked from Nacina, upwards and noticed a large ball of fire hurtling down towards us. It was all I could do to push Nacina out of the way, then the fear sunk in, freezing me in place.

"AKINA!!!!" Nacina screamed. I could tell by her voice that she was crying but I couldn't make myself move... I'm going to die... there's no escape. As I braced myself the fireball got smaller and miraculously changed course barely missing me. A large crater was formed in the road a few feet behind me and laying in that crater was a boy. He had blazing bright red eyes and charcoal black hair, which never seemed to stay still, he also had a fierce look on his face. The boy was shirtless and shoeless with dark red jeans and a well-toned physique. He must have forced himself to change his course, to avoid hitting me; I instantly recognized him from posters...

"I hope you didn't think that weak attack was enough to stop me!" He shouted towards the sky angrily. I looked up to where his eyes were locked and saw another person flying just above us, with large bat-like wings, each wing was about five foot in length, and his hair was white and it was almost as long as he was tall. He's clearly an Afarion...! I was beginning to panic when I then heard something flutter to my left, so I looked to see the boy who fell next to me was now standing, completely unharmed with beautiful white wings, twice as big as the Afarion's... he's our Angel and even though I'm not a huge fan, at that moment I was entranced by his beauty.
