1 Chapter 1: Insanity

(Fifth moon, 29th day: Year 451 of the Lu Calendar)

{System online: Operating at minimum capacity: User vital signs: Near zero}

Alphonse heard a voice ring in his mind as he woke up. 'How did this happen to me?' Alphonse asked as he felt a surge of pain go throughout his whole body and memories jolted into his mind. Images of his Father kicking him fled into his mind, making him shiver with fear just thinking about it. 'Something was off with his eyes, they looked... scattered...' Alphonse thought as he looked through his memories. 'I should get up...' Alphonse thought to himself as he struggled his way to his feet.

Looking around the cellar more memories flooded to mind, images flashed, and he could hear voices in his mind, memories of what people said. The images were of people and another life, there was a boy, he knew what the boy was thinking in every memory, and the boy's parents were kind and loving, it was a good life. However, that life ended rather abruptly, the boy was run over by a car that appeared from nothingness. 'So I'm guessing I reincarnated...' Alphonse found himself rather confused.

Alphonse didn't react emotionally, although the memories were his and anything the boy from the memories knew he knew, Alphonse still felt like the memories were fake, or at least not his, Alphonse didn't have the same emotional attachment to the boy's parents or siblings, even the boy's cousins, it all felt like he was eavesdropping on somebody else's mind. "Odd... Wait? System?" Alphonse mumbled to himself quietly as he finally processed what the voice that woke him up said.

{System operating at minimum capacity.} The slightly robotic female voice responded.

Alphonse almost screamed when he heard the voice, the movement of which caused immense pain to screech throughout his body. "Th-there's actually a '[system]', AGH... In... my head..." Alphonse said with great difficulty as pain jolted throughout him.

{Affirmative.} The system responded.

"... It... Responded..." Alphonse said to himself as he restrained from moving anymore. "System, can I talk to you through my thoughts?" Alphonse said quietly in English while trying hard not to move.

{Affirmative: Would you like to enable mental comprehension now?} The system responded.

"YES!" Alphonse responded as he nearly jumped in excitement and pain began emanating throughout his body. "Urgh... That... hurts..." Alphonse said.

{Enabling mental comprehension: Time left: 2 hours. In response to users current neurological output I recommend enabling the fast healing function, it will increase your healing speed by 1.25x the usual output: Enable now?} The system said in response to Alphonse.

"Yes! Please do!" Alphonse responded as he began to fall to the ground of the cellar. Alphonse is an Amethyst Crystal Wolf, one of the many beastman clans; the Amethyst Crystal Wolf clan heals much faster than Humans, so even a 1.25 times boost is a great deal faster. A few defining features of this clan is hair color, eye color, and the design of the iris, the clan has purple or magenta hair and eyes, and the iris of every clan member has a crystalline design. "I figured out what was off about my dad!" Alphonse quickly thought to himself. "His eyes, the iris, it was as if it cracked apart and started drifting throughout the Sclera!" Alphonse had finally figured it out, though he isn't quite sure what it means. "Hey, system, what does all of that mean exactly?" Alphonse asked the system.

{Searching your genetics...}

{Complete: There is a hidden genetic feat locked within your genetics and is likely available to your entire race, however, this feat has risks that come with it: Would you like to know more?} The system asked.

"Yes, please explain." Alphonse asked hurriedly.

{Affirmative: This feat can cause mental damage if you cannot control it, however, the feat unlocks portions of your cultivational potential, increasing your talent and cultivation speed, this feat also increases the user's current strength, speed, agility, dexterity, wisdom, comprehension, retention, and intellect.}

"So it's a double-edged blade?"

{Affirmative.}

Alphonse walked up the stairs slowly, taking him several minutes. The staircase is made of stone and has twelve steps, each about 6-inches up 2.5-feet across and 8-inches forwards. When Alphonse finally made it up he saw his father passed out in a chair near the fireplace. "Alphonse!" Alphonse heard a hushed voice say in an urgent tone. "I was so worried that your father... that he..." The voice stuttered as she began sobbing.

Alphonse looked over and saw his mother, his mother is thin with a pleasant face and her hair was long and blue-violet in coloration. Alphonse just looked at his mother, not responding as he didn't know how to say many words.

"Come, I'll bring you to your room." She said as she crouched down opened her arms. Alphonse slowly limped over to her and she picked him up. Alphonse's mother walked up the stairs, to the third floor. On the third floor, there were five rooms, Alphonse was carried into the second one on the right. Alphonse's room had two twin size beds and was about 250-square feet, he was placed onto the bed closest to the door and afterward his mother left the room. Covering himself up he started talking to the 'system'.

"What are you 'system'?" He asked.

{Just as you have said, I am a system, nothing less, nothing more.} The system responded.

"... well, do you have a name or anything?" Alphonse asked.

{I am known as *Pre-Reconditioning-Influx-Sorting-Machine* or Prism for short.}

Alphonse was surprised to hear that the system already had a name. "How much longer until the Mental-Comprehension is done?" Alphonse asked, just waiting to stop talking to himself.

{It will be another 1 hour 39 minutes 12 seconds until completion.}

"Notify me when it's done."

...

{*Beep* *beep* *beep*} Alphonse heard a familiar sound as he woke up, feeling a sharp pain come from his ribs, though it wasn't as bad as it was previously. {Complete: Mental comprehension, you can now communicate with me mentally.} Prism stated.

'What was that sound?' Alphonse thought to himself.

{That was the timer that you had set, you appear to have fallen asleep so it woke you up.}

'Oh, okay, so I guess I can talk to you with my mind...' Alphonse thought to himself as he started thinking about possibilities for Prism.
