77 Chapter 76: Power Man & Jewel

[New York City]

[May 9th, 2008]

(3rd Person: POV)

Behind her police issued Ford sedan, NYPD lieutenant Yuri Watanabe kept her head low to avoid the hale of gunfire behind blasted in her direction.

The same was true for all her fellow officers around her.

All of them were in cover to avoid being hit by any of the bullets being fired in their direction.

The people responsible for firing said bullets at the police officers being a heavily armed robbery crew that had been knocking off jewelry stores for the past two months.

The police had received a tip from a confidental informat on where the crew would hit next.

So they set up a sting operation.

But things had gone to shit.

Especially when the robbery crew in question pulled out military-grade rifles.

Yuri and her fellow officers hadn't been expecting that.

Now they were pinned down, waiting for SWAT to arrive and provide backup so they could take down the suspects.

Only it had been 25 minutes since Yuri put in the call, and she had seen no sign of SWAT whatsoever.

As another bullet flew over her head, this time striking the window of the store she was looking at, Yuri got back on her radio with a fury.

"This is lieutenant Watanabe once more. Where the fuck is my backup?! Where the fuck is SWAT?! I've got six heavily armed suspects here and officers under heavy fire st my location!" She roared into her radio.

"Lieutenant Watanabe, hang tight. We are five minutes out, I repeat SWAT is five minutes out." The SWAT commander spoke over the radio.

"I don't think we have five minutes commander." Yuri spoke.

Another round of bullets flying over her head.

"But we'll do what we can." Yuri said.

Then just after she spoke one of her fellow officers cried out.

"Suspects are moving!"

Hearing this Yuri stuck her head up out of cover to see the six suspects beginning to move out and away from the jewelry store that had intended on robbing.

Their weapons aimed in the direction of the police officers.

All six of them wearing body armor.

Seeing this Yuri could only grit her teeth in frustration.

Since she knew regular officers could do nothing against such men.

They were a job for SWAT.

But by the time they arrived the thieves would be gone.

It was a no-win situation.

"Dammit." Yuri cursed. "There must be something we can do." She said.

Then just after Yuri did the entire situation was thrown on its head.

Rolling up on a Harley Davidson motorcycle was Luke.

Dressed in his hero costume, which Roman had so graciously supplied to him.

It was his Power Man costume from the comics and cartoons.

Since although Roman didn't have a problem with Luke fighting crime in hoodies he felt a proper outfit would be much better.

Plus it wouldn't be murder on Luke's wardrobe budget.

Even though Roman was paying him a sizeable amount.

Seeing Luke Yuri, her fellow officers, and even the armed thieves couldn't believe what they were seeing.

But their surprise only lasted for a few seconds before they regained their senses.

Once this happened the officers began shouting at Luke.

"Get back, now!"

"Back off!"

"You moron. Leave now!"

One after another the officers on the scene shouted warnings at Luke.

But he ignored them all and continued approaching the armed thieves.

Then upon reaching them he punched the nearest suspect trait in the face.

Luke's punch sending the thief flying back and crashing into the wall of the jewelry store.

Which left his comrades stunned, and caused all the officers who saw what just happened to shut their mouths.

"Stand down, or you get the same treatment." Luke told the other five robbers.

This knocked them out of their shocked state.

When this happened all five of them immediately raised their assault rifles at Luke, pulled the triggers, and began firing at him.

Which led to everyone being stunned once more.

Since although the bullets the thieves were firing were hitting Luke he wasn't taking any damage at all.

Not a drop of blood was in sight.

As for the bullets themselves they mushroomed upon coming into contact with Luke's skin.

"What the fuck?!" One of the robbers shouted.

"Alright, I see you want to do this the hard way then." Luke said. "Jewel." He spoke.

A moment after Luke did Jessica descended from the air behind the armed robbers, dressed in her own superhero costume.

Which just like Luke's costume was the one she wore in the comics.

Grabbing two of the robbers by the scruffs of their shirt necks Jessica tossed them behind her, sending them slamming into the wall of the jewelry store like their friend from earlier.

Then before the remaining three robbers could react Luke punched the two in front of him in their chests.

Knocking them straight on their asses.

Leaving only one robber left.

Though seeing his friends getting taken out so easily, and finding himself pinned between Luke and Jessica, he dropped his weapon and held up his hands in surrender.

"Good choice." Jessica said.

"First right one you've made all day." Luke added.

He then moved to collect all of them thieves weapons and place them in front of the police on the scene.

Once that was over Luke returned to his Harley.

Jessica right by his side.

The two then prepared to leave.

But before they could Yuri ran up to them.

"Wait!" She cried.

When she did Luke and Jessica turned to look at her.

"You, who are you two?" Yuri asked me.

"Jewel." Jessica answered.

"Power Man." Luke replied. "Allies to the good guys." He added.

Luke then started up his Harley and drove off.

While Jessica took to the air and flew after him.

Thus Jessica and Luke had just completed their superhero debut to the world.
