3 Chapter 3: An Un X-pected Meeting

Looking at Storm and Professor X in front of me I could only think one thing.

I'm fucked.

I am utterly and incredibly fucked.

Since if I am on the radar of the X-Men that likely means I might be on the radar of their enemies as well. And if by some miracle I am not this meeting right now will change that.

Of that I have no doubt.

Resisting the urge to shout at the top of my lungs due to my shitty luck I instead focused all my attention on the pair in front of me.

Taking in their appearances I noticed both Storm and the professor look like their actors from the revised timeline films that came out after 'Days of Future Past' instead of those from the original timeline films.

Which I am both a bit sad and happy about at the same time.

The former is because I wouldnt have minded meeting Halle Berry in the flesh, even if she wasn't the one I know.

While the latter is because I didn't want the possessor to look like my boy John Patrick Stewart.

That might've ruined Star Trek for me.

Speaking of which I wonder if Star Trek exists in this universe?

'No, focus.'

I will have time to discover that later, right now I need to deal with the issue literally right in front of my face.

"Hello." I spoke. "So, did one of you just speak to me using your thoughts?" I asked.

Even though I already knew the answer. But I have to pretend that I don't.

Since if I let on that I know more than I should there's no telling what Xavier might do to me.

Sure, he likes to play the nice guy, the spokesman of peace and understanding, but in reality Charles is a huge hypocrite.

So long as he feels it's for "The Greater Good" he has no trouble using basically any methods to achieve his goals.

Sure the film versions of him aren't as bad as his comic counterparts but that doesn't change my feelings in regards to him.

That's why when dealing with him I can't let my guard down for a second.

At my question Charles put a kind smile on his face.

'Yes. You are correct Roman.'

"My name is Charles Xavier, and this woman with me is named Ororo Munroe. It is a pleasure to meet you." Charles spoke.

"Yes." Storm added.

Giving me a sympathetic look as she did.

Since she herself was once an orphan who lived on the streets I can understand why.

"Nice to meet you both as well. So, what can I do for you two?' I spoke.

"Actually we have come here to do something for you." Charles replied.

"What's that?" I asked.

Again already knowing the probably answer, but playing along so Charles doesn't go digging around in my head.

"We have come to offer you a home. A place where there are others like you. A place where you can learn to control your abilties in a safe environment." Charles explained.

Me resisting the urge to snort as Charles called his school "safe".

Since the X-mansion gets destroyed more times in the comics, movies, and television shows than I can count.

"You see I run a school for young people like you, and Ororo and I have come to offer you a place at it." Charles spoke.

"How did you find me? Also, how did you know I'm a mutant?" I asked. Pretending to be scared.

I hope my acting is working.

"Child please, there is no need to fear us." Storm said gently. "We really only want to help you."

"Yes. What Ororo said is true. We are only hear to help." Charles added.

"You say that but you still haven't answered my questions." I replied.

"I'm afraid we cannot do that." Charles said. "But truly, we mean you no harm."

Giving Charles and Proto a fake suspicious look I just stared at the pair in silence for a few seconds before visibly relaxing in front of them on the outside, while still keeoing my guard up on the inside.

"So, you say you mean me no harm and that you want me to attend your school right Mr. Xavier?" I questioned.

Charles nodded. "Yes. That is correct."

"While that doesn't sound bad you must know I am an orphan right. So that means I have no way to pay the tuition for your school." I explained.

"That won't be a problem." Charles immediately replied. "All of your expenses and more will be taken care of it you choose to attend the school. But of course, the choice is yours." He said.

Charles subtly glossing over the fact he basically just said he will pay for me to attend his school.

Which for a normal street orphan, especially a mutant one, would likely make them accept Charles offer.

Good thing I am not an ordinary mutant street orphan then.

"If it's alright can I have some time to think about this?" I asked.

"Of course." Charles replied. "How about we meet here again in two days to discuss this matter once more?"

I nodded. "That's fine with me. Thank you Mr. Xavier and Ms. Munroe." I said.

I then walked up to Charles and extended my hand.

A second after I did so he grasped it and started shaking it.

The moment he did so I absorbed his DNA and obtained his telepathic powers.

Since there is no way I am going to keep being around this man with my mind unprotected against mental intrutions and assaults.

Even if Charles doesn't try and go digging around in my head without permission there are plenty of other telepathic individuals in this world who would.

Thus I need a way to defend myself and counter them when and if said times I encounter them arise.

And given my luck thus far I'm pretty sure I will encounter said individuals in the future.

That's why I see nothing wrong in preparing myself for such confrontations by absorbing the powers of one of the strongest telepath's in the entire world.

The handshake between Charles and I, and my absorption of his DNA and by extensions his powers, only lasted a few seconds.

Doing my best to keep a straight face I waited with bated breath to see if Charles noticed me stealing his powers.

When he didn't react I breathed a mental sigh of relief.

I then said goodbye to Storm and the two of them left the area.

Once they did so I headed to my home in the abandoned subway station and for comfortable.

I then started experimenting with the telepathic abilties I absorbed from Charles.

Even if they are at only 1/10 of their original strength these powers are something else.

'I guess Charles isn't classified as an Alpha-level mutant for nothing.'

As I sensed multiple minds and thoughts around me I began to imagine just how many more I would sense once I trained this ability up.

Putting a small smile on my face I cracked my neck.

It's time for me to get to work.
