“What’s the big deal?” he snapped, slapping at my hand as I tried to apply an ice pack. “It’s just a black eye.”
I let him handle his own bag of frozen peas, but I couldn’t resist giving him a good, solid shake. “The big deal is that you’re not some damn street rat any longer. You’re an actor, and an actor does not show up black and blue from a damn bar fight.”
“How’d you know I was in a bar?” J.T. narrowed his one open eye. “Are you following me?”
“Don’t be stupid, kid. Where else would you get into a fight? You didn’t join a gang did you? Try to rob an old lady? Buy drugs?”
“You know I don’t do drugs.”
