1 Prologue

A heart once is broken,

Can be repaired,

To live on once again,

If properly healed

Y/N's POV

I've been sitting on the couch in my living room, watching a show I had already seen 100 times. Although, not even paying much attention as I keep glancing over at the clock under the television. My nerves begin rising every time I hear the clock...Tik. Tik. My parents were supposed to be home an hour ago...Tik. Tik. They had gone out for a date night, but haven't come back home. I take a deep breath before grabbing the remote to turn off the television. And, with that, I begin my trek up the stairs to head to bed.

I'm probably just overreacting...yeah probably. I'm sure they're fine. It's only been an hour later than the time they had estimated they would be back. They're probably just stuck in traffic, or they lost track of the time. Yeah...that was it. I'll head to bed, and they'll be there in the morning.

I squint as I feel the sunlight flood my face. My hand shields my eyes from the sun's glare. I sigh a little as I sit up in my bed, rubbing my eyes to wake up. My mouth agape as I yawn while hoisting my legs over the edge of the bed and planting my feet on the ground as I stand up. Waking up is my least favorite part of the day.

I take a quick glance at my clock...Tik. Tik.

Are Mom and Dad back?!?

I bolt out the door of my room, almost slipping over my own two feet as I run down the hallway towards my parents' room. When I arrive at my parents' door I take in a deep breath before knocking softly, and I wait...And wait...And wait...

I finally decide to creak the door open and peek into their room, only to be met with an empty bed. Maybe they were just showering...but when I check to hear if the water is running, leaning my ear against the bathroom door to hear...nothing.

The nerves from the previous day begin rising, crawling slowly from my back to the top of my head. A deep pit growing in my stomach.

Exiting my parent's room, I hear the doorbell ring making my heart start pounding quickly. Without hesitation, I run down the stairs to the front door and quickly swing it open to a sight I didn't expect to see. A face that wasn't my parents.

"Hello, I'm officer Jeon Jungkook. You're Y/N, right?" The man questions dressed as an officer with a badge that dangles onto his uniform as he gives me a gentle smile.

"Y-Yes..." I reply timidly, standing close to the door. Not quite sure what this stranger or this...officer was here for.

Author's POV

"Well, Y/N...I'll tell it to you straight. Your mom and dad got into a car accident last night. They're at the hospital right now and I was told to come to get you, so you wouldn't be left home alone." Officer Jeon states solemnly to the little girl who stands in front of him.

He crouches down to meet the girl's height and is faced with tears glistening in her small eyes. The small girl nods slowly as Officer Jeon reaches his hand out for her to take it. She timidly puts her hand in his as he begins taking her to the car, but not before closing the door to the house. Officer Jeon smiles sweetly at her as he brings her over to the police car, opening the car door and tucking her into a seat belt in the back.

"Everything will be okay..." Officer Jeon softly whispers to the little girl who was on the verge of crying while Officer Jeon quickly pats her head and wipes her tears before closing the car door. He races around the car to the other side, opening the door as he slides into the driver's seat. Taking the wheel, right before he drives to the hospital.

Back to Y/N's POV

"We're here." Officer Jeon tells me as he parks the car in front of the hospital, and we begin getting out.

I sniffle before opening the door, wiping the tears that stray from my eyes. Officer Jeon closes the door behind me as I get out.

He takes my hand in his before guiding me towards the entrance. Opening the door, we went to sit on the chairs in the waiting room but were stopped by a woman.

"Hello Officer Jeon, I'll take her from here." The lady wearing a nurse's coat says as she takes my hand. But, before we leave Officer Jeon crouches down in front of me.

"I hope not to see you any time soon Y/N, don't want you causing any trouble." Officer Jeon tells me with a small smile as I nod slightly. He quickly gives my head a small pat before leaving.

The nurse guides me to the room where my parents were staying, and as I pop my head in. I see my parents lying lifelessly, I feel waterworks coming as I quickly run to my mother's side.

"M-Mom?" I whisper in a weak voice, trying not to break into tears.

"I'll leave you alone." The nurse states softly before closing the door, leaving me alone with my mom.

I quickly glance at the door closing before forcing my eyes back to the sight of my mom taking my hand in hers. My thumb runs gentle circles on the back of her hand, trying to calm her down but in actuality, I'm trying to keep myself from breaking down.

"Y-Y/N, look at me." My mom called out in a quiet voice.

I look at the blurry image of my mom through the tears now streaming down my face. I look at her as I begin to take deeper breaths to calm myself. Her fragile hand reaches up slowly and wipes the tears on my cheeks away.

"Y-Y/N, your father and I, we won't make it to tomorrow. We only have a few minutes left..." My mom forces out with a raspy voice.

"M-Mom...d-dad...please, don't leave me." I whimper out, sobbing into my mom's fragile hand.

"It's our fate Y/N, we can't stop it...d-do you remember uncle Jin?" My mom questions weakly as I nod quickly.

"You'll be staying with him from now on..." My mom states with a small smile.

"B-But what about you? W-What about dad?" I choke out through my cries.

"Y-Y/N...I love you." My mom states with a smile right before I watch her eyes slowly close.

Followed by the ring of two beeps flowing into my left and right ear.

Then, silence.

"NO! Please...no..." I screamed sobbing into my mom's now limp hand.

I look over my shoulder, seeing my dad. I ran over to his side, shaking him to try and wake him up.

"DAD! Come on! You have to wake up mom!" I yell at my dad who's lying lifelessly on the bed. I feel the tears pouring out of my eyes as my heart rate increases.

"No...this can't be happening...everything was...perfect." I whimper out loud as more tears escape from the rims of my eyes.

I walk backward slowly until my back hits the wall. I don't feel anything as my form slides down the wall instinctually. Feeling nothing as my body huddles into a ball.

Why...just why...this can't be happening...it can't...my parents...the only thing I had loved in my life...they're...gone.

I feel someone tug on my sleeve hard enough that I notice. Moving my gaze from the floor to the nurse that had taken me here, meeting her soft gaze.

"Come on sweetie, get up." The nurse spoke sweetly to me as I shook my head, no...

I'm not going to leave my parents...

"Y/N, let's go. You can't stay here any longer." The nurse tells me with a look of pity in her eyes, but I shake my head. I-I can't go...

No..Not now....they need me...I need them...

The nurse sighs before picking me up and carrying me out the door of their hospital room. I kick and scream but nothing seems to work as I watch the only people I ever loved being ripped away from me.

The nurse brings me over to a seat and sits me down, and I try fighting against her till she tells me those next words...

"They're Gone."

Three years ago...

"Come on Y/N, it's your sweet 16 tomorrow! You don't want to do anything?!?" Uncle Jin whines next to me as I shake my head. No.

"Don't you have any friends you want to invite or hang out with?" Uncle Jin questions in a solemn tone.

Nope.

I shake my head again.

Uncle Jin sighs running a hand through his hair before looking back at me.

"Y/N...it's been 7 years since they've died...you haven't spoken a single word...please...talk again."

Uncle Jin begs me as I shake my head as my vision gets blurry. I-I'm sorry, Uncle Jin...

I quickly wipe the tears away as I run upstairs to my room, closing and locking the door. I slowly go to my bed and tumble onto it as I huddle into a ball on top of it. Grabbing my pillow and cuddling into it, hoping the pain I've carried for years will go away...but I know it never will.

Jin's POV

I sigh silently to myself as I see Y/N run up the stairs, away from me. I get up from the couch and go follow her, but when I hear her door shut, I stop...I should leave her alone.

Will she ever be that cheerful, little girl I knew back then, again? Will I ever get to see her smile like she used to? Hear her talk again?

Will she ever be herself again…

I exhale.

If only they were here...

Y/N's POV

Today is the day.

I'm moving out of Uncle Jin's house into my own apartment for college. It's bittersweet to think of leaving Uncle Jin...but there are opportunities waiting ahead of me.

I snap back into reality when I hear Uncle Jin asking a bunch of questions while pacing back and forth in my room as I'm packing.

"Are you sure you have everything? Did you get all your clothes? Shoes? Hats? Toothbrush? Shaver? Oh my goodness! What about-" Jin rambles out at a fast pace before I quickly cover his mouth with my hand to get him to shut up. I sigh before removing my hand, grabbing my phone in the process. I type out what I want to say before handing it to him.

I'm fine, Uncle Jin. You don't have to worry about me.

He sighs again before giving me back my phone.

"Of course I'll worry about you Y/N. You're going out alone into the world. And I won't be there for you anymore." Uncle Jin tells me while pouting as I just give him a look in return.

"J-Just promise to take care of yourself okay? Don't skip meals, don't cross the street without looking both ways, if you ever need money I'm always here-" Uncle Jin tells me as if he was my mother. I quickly cover his mouth again and nod my head.

He sighs before taking my hand away from his mouth and holding my hand gently in his.

"I love you, Y/N. I just want what's best for you." Uncle Jin breathes out, squeezing my hand as I nod my head giving him a slight smile. He smiles brightly before embracing me in a tight hug, squeezing the air out of me. I smile a little as I feel tears fall, as I wrap my arms around him and lightly hug him back.

After a minute or so, I pull away looking back at Uncle Jin as he smiles at me. He took his thumb wiping away the tears from my face while I give him a tiny smile.

"I guess it's time to say goodbye...isn't it?" Uncle Jin pouts as I nod.

He takes half of my bags while I carry the other half of them. We heft the bags that were packed from my room to the car outside. We both loaded them into the car, making sure there was enough space for every bag I'm bringing.

"Alright, that's it," Uncle Jin mumbles as he places the last suitcase in the trunk, "It's time to say goodbye." Uncle Jin states with his eyes glistening.

He takes my arm, pulling me into a tight embrace. I wrap my arms around him tightly in return.

"Please visit every once and awhile." Uncle Jin whispers into my ear. I nod as I pull back with a slight smile, looking to see Uncle Jin close to tears.

I walk to the driver's side of the car, sliding into the driver's seat. Putting the window down as I turn the engine on.

"I'll miss you! Don't forget me, missy! If you don't visit me in a year I'll visit you!" Uncle Jin shouts as I pull out of the driveway. I stifle a laugh as I continue pulling out.

Don't worry Uncle Jin, I'll make you and them proud.
