1 Previous Life

It's still dark. The sun is yet to rise.

A room full of little kids still sleeping obediently creating a serene yet tranquil atmosphere.

*DANG!!!*

This quiet room was suddenly disturbed by a loud kickopening the room's door followed by a person's footsteps and a sharp shout that could tear open anyone's eardrums.Startling awake all the little one's from their peaceful dreams, only dreams.

"What are u fools still sleeping for?"

"GET UP!!!"

A woman's voice that the little ones dread and fear sent shivers up their spine jolting them awake and cowering in fear. Knowing that they were late to wake up, they knew that today was going to be a hard day! Not like any other day was better than this but still...

The deadly voice continues without giving them an ounce of as much of a second to clear up their minds.

"Go finish your assigned works or you can wait to starve and get punished!" roaring the woman declared.

But as though their little bodies were robots, they all got up, cleared up their 'beds', if that's what you'd call them, before they could even process her words in their little minds. And echoed "Yes director" together as if trained for it.

Hunger, tiredness and grievances clouding in their eyes that should've had the sparkles of energy in them. Lost in those eyes were the expectations to feel the freedom and be pampered and loved, while replacing them were the feelings of fear and exceptance for the life they had to live.

These little hearts were already long closed to the world before they could even begin to explore.

The power hungry, money hungry, food hungry and just all kinds of hunger, all in all a greedy woman is what you'll call the woman, their director. To be precise their Orphanage Director of Old Gild Orphanage.

Yes they are orphans who were abused, overworked and punished every other day by their only guardian the director.... goes by the name... Well who cares... So let's just call her the director!

After she gets their collective response and the look of fear on their faces, she smiles satisfied and leaves to her room to continue to be on leisure.

"Okay, now let's go to work everyone, and complete it fast, since if not then she might starve us and might punish us all with something dreadful again!" comes a tired voice of a little boy, who seemed to be the leader of the 20 or so kids in the orphanage.

"You are right Tom!" said another kid with a sob in her voice.

"But Tom what about Rain?" asked another kid with clear anger on his face.

Tom, the leader of the group of kids, said "It's ok Chip, I will look after her, you and Red go finish all your works quickly then come and switch with Me! Also don't let the director know about us taking care of her".

" Yes, yesterday she told 'Leave her alone to die!' and she isn't even giving her the medicine! If she gets to know, who knows what she might do,though it's because of her that Rain's in such a condition right now!" Said the sobbing kid, Red.

"Ok I understand! I will definitely come fast after completing my works! I will not let anything happen to Rain." said the grumpy kid, Chip.

Hearing the three speak the others also went to complete their works faster and hoping to return early and take care of Rain too.

Chip and Red also left after them, after giving a little girl sleeping on the bed one last look.

Rain, the sleeping no unconscious little girl, with a high fever for more than 3 days. Was suddenly having a coughing fit! She could barely blink her eyes open and hence opted for squinting.

"Rain! "

"You're finally awake!"
