Vampire Outcast (6)

Call began her slaughter, sweeping past the large hall like a hurricane and by the time Trevor woke up, only two elders were left and no young vampire remained.

He turned to her and didn't know how to react.

"Vampires of this generation are weak," Call said before she started walking away.

"Wait!" even Trevor had no idea why he shouted but it was too late to swallow his words.

Call turned to him with a raised eyebrow. "What? aren't you afraid I'll rip your throat?"

"I want to know your story, it's not so great hearing different things from different people" Trevor wanted to slap himself. 'What is wrong with me? I am curious but will I behave this stupidly in front of someone who can make my head roll with a snap of her finger?'

"What did you hear?"

"That you killed because of a cake?" Trevor paled. This was definitely not him speaking, he would not dig his grave himself. "I..."

"It must be a side effect of the ritual" Call chuckled. Trevor's expression was so funny that she couldn't hold herself back. "And I never killed anyone a cake, at least those idiots should spread great rumors. I can bake. Vampires rarely use cake for their celebration and you don't want to know what they put inside"

"So you didn't kill an elder?" Trevor asked in confusion.

"I did...because he insulted my mother and me" Call sighed before walking close to Trevor. "I was never accepted"

"Do you have to tell him this?" Call said somewhat contradicting herself.

"He asked"

"So what? are you gonna tell it to anyone who asks?"

Trevor felt weirded out by the scene and could not contain his curiosity. "Who are you speaking to?"

"No one" Call replied calmly. "Do you still want to know?"

Trevor immediately nodded and so Call used one of the dead elders as a stool. She even offered him to sit beside her but he politely refused.

"I don't know how long I've been asleep but I'm just 149 years old"

Trevor frowned, Vampire age is calculated differently from a human. While a human is considered an adult at 18 vampires become an adult at 200 years of age. So by vampire standards, Call was still a minor.

"Why are you so young?" he blurted out too fast to reconstruct his words.

"Did you expect a granny?" Call shook her head before she continued speaking. "My grandfather didn't like me at all, after all, I wasn't the result of his choice"

"Maybe because of that my life in the clan was never peaceful. Since I had no backing other kids thought I could easily be bullied but after I defanged a boy the others started seeing me like the monster I was"

"The peace did not last because as I started to mature many of them wanted me but there was a problem. My mom was always busy with one thing or another and my grandpa didn't care so they had to approach me directly"

"Dealing with just one person wasn't a problem but they were too many and after one of them had the daring idea to force himself on me, he lost his head but others tried to learn from him even though the only result was death and my alter-ego is not the friendliest"

"My death count increased and I even grew bored of it but when I heard there would be a meeting, I left home for a while and...tried to search for my pa"

"But the elders found my actions disrespectful and sent someone after me...I had no idea. I found my pa and found out a lot"

"I don't know why my mom never wanted us to meet but after that day I respected her decision. I am cursed, the day I found my pa was the day I lost him...my stalker killed him and I went crazy and murdered every last vampire in the village, old and young but I couldn't catch my pa's killer" tears rolled down Call's cheek as she paused her narration.

Trevor even had the urge to wipe her tears for her but resulted in that urge and kept his paws to himself.

"He wasn't even given a proper burial and my mom asked me to forget about it. The tension in our relationship became even more apparent"

"In that party that everyone misunderstood, that elders had called me a bastard and he paid with his life. I didn't want to make things more difficult for my mom so I left and never went back"

"So you've never even had a partner or something like that?"

"I missed my dad too much in my loneliness and decided to go into slumber. By human standards, I'm 15"

Trevor was speechless. The story he heard before was so different from Call's story.

'She has gone through a lot' he and Jeffrey thought at the same time.

"I am an orphan but I can relate with you a bit. I heard a mom telling her child once, bad things are there to compliment the good. Who knows, you've gone through so much bad stuff it might be good things ahead for you now"

Call merely chuckled and stood up. "Nice attempt to cheer me up"

"I'm not trying to cheer you up, giving yourself another chance will be good for everyone, you might even find love" Trevor shrugged.

Call stared at him for a good while before she smiled and nodded.

The scene in front of Jeffrey changed and he felt his consciousness return to his body.

'Finally' he stretched his numb limbs. He eyes darted to the clock ticking and he stood shocked. It was almost 11am the next day, meaning he was going to miss school today but at least he would be able to avoid the poem assignment.
