83 SAND CASTLE - PART 2

Christopher was going to be sure Rose didn't cry anymore.

"What did I say that made you like this?" He asked.

"You said I have people who care, but I have learned kindness always comes with a heavy price. I can no longer afford to pay for it. So please stop saying those things." Rose mewled.

"Hic." A small sob bubbled up from her throat.

A realization struck The Lord that Rose had been mistreated her entire life. She did not know how to accept that someone might actually want to love and care for her. Rose was doing everything possible to armor her heart and prevent it from being hurt one more time.

"Drink some of this." Christopher brought the bowl to Rose's lips, and she took a small sip.

"I think you need more rest."

He wiped a bit of the broth from the corner of her mouth with his thumb.
