Chapter 1 — The Rats on the Streets

One day I was walking peacefully down my street, like I normally do. But normally, it's peaceful and is a breath of fresh air, contrary to my home. Unfortunately, on this particular day, the ugly rats came running a long, causing trouble. It's not unusual for fights to occasionally break out onto this street in the alleyway. And normally, it's like cat fights but with humans. This fight though. It was not like that. Three 6 foot tall boys were beating a man down and shouting at him. These boys don't even live in the neighborhood. They live in Prestin County. A moderately rich neighborhood. So unlike this one, Gumpy County.

I decided to approach them. I know, it's dumb. But they wouldn't hurt a girl, would they...? I'm about to find out.

"Hey!" I shouted at them. They didn't seem to have heard me over their shouting, so, I used my mother's angry voice. I hollered, "Hey!" That had gotten their attention. They looked at me, momentarily stoping what they were doing.

"Who are you?" One of the boys asked me. He had blonde hair with faded red tips that looked pink now. He was wearing grey jeans, with a white T-shirt, and a red flannel. For someone so rich, he looks like he's from here. Which I believe is the point. He was tan. I would believe it if he had a T-shirt outlining as well.

"Doesn't matter who I am." I walk closer, putting my hands in my jean pockets. "What are you doing, for one, in this neighborhood? And two, why are you beating a defenseless man?" I asked. My voice got louder at the end of my question, so they knew exactly how serious I was.

"Why do you want to know?" This time it was the second boy. He had brown short hair. Completely natural. This guy looked a bit younger than the other two, but not by much. His face was the only one who had a shave. He wore a black leather jacket, zipped up so I couldn't see his shirt, and black leather pants.

"Maybe because," I stepped closer, "I live here. And you don't." I made my voice sound menacing, despite the height difference between them and me. "And I don't have the cleanest track record here."

They all chuckled. The blonde haired boy speaks again. "A shorty like you, couldn't even beat a 6th grader." They laughed again. As they laughed I kicked the blonde haired boy in the, down low area, then kicked their face. By then he was laying on the ground, in pain.

I kneeled down to his level. "I could beat three tall rats right now if I wanted to." I raise my voice, standing up again. "Now scram! And if I see either of you here or causing trouble again, next time won't be merciful!"

With that, they ran from the alleyway back to their car, which looked like a sports car. The blonde haired guy I kicked had a bit of trouble running and getting in, but eventually they all drive off.

I had almost forget about the guy they were beating, but, when I looked back, he was gone. I'll be honest. It was a smart move on his part. I begin walking back to my house. Hopefully to return to peacefully.
