21 Chapter 20 The Evil

I lay there on the floor on my hands and knees. frozen in place.

Afraid to look up.

Of course, I'd fall clumsily and land on my face.

not like my life had been easy thus far.

"Being subtle is not your strong suit."

I looked up and met the alien from before . Ragnar's gaze, my heart is thundering in my chest and I was afraid to move from my spot on the floor.

He raises a delicate eyebrow at me in return.

"And I never expected to see you again so soon. I thought you would like to be with your people in their little prison cells." His grin was feral.

It felt strange, understanding an alien language you have no memory of learning. I scrambled to my feet fast as I could and I took in my surroundings. I was inside a room and Ragnar seemed to be the only one around. I could hear the fading voices of Zelda and the other guards outside.

I should be grateful I didn't fall in front of them,

Although, I dont trust Ragnar he's the only one who hadn't tried anything malicious so far, Not that he couldn't at any given moment.

I looked at him cautiously and he gave me a toothy grin in return and that's the first time I noticed that he had fangs similar to a vampire.

"Oh, come now. I won't turn you in. This is the most entertainment I've had in a while and trust me It gets boring around here."

"I don't trust you," I say, my voice quivering but the alien language left my lips freely.

I took a step back and swallowed.

"Of course, You'd be a fool if you did."

He laughed and moved towards a window.

"You're lucky because there is no one in this universe I despise more than him, So why should I help him find you?"

I stepped around him cautiously and peeked at what he was looking at and I instantly wished I didn't. I ducked down immediately.

Oh God, It's Azreal. he's right below me.

I heard Ragnar's laugh and it sent chills down my spine.

"Relax Earthling, it's a one-way mirror. He cannot see you."

"Are you setting me up?"

He laughed again.

"As I said, I have no intention in handing you over. Besides, he'll find you eventually. Nothing gets past that monster. He's too powerful for his good."

That sounds like a backhanded compliment. Why do I feel like he's driven by jealousy rather than hate when it comes to Azreal.

But he's right, Azreal will find me eventually, and ill end up at his side again. I have a mission to carry out so I can help the resistance but is it worth the pain I'm about to endure? Is it worth my freedom?

I slowly peeked through the one-way mirror again and I realized we were on a high platform on the left side. The room below us was so big it looked like a stadium. There was a throne in the middle and Azreal was seated on it. How does someone manage to look bored and regal at the same time?

There was a long black carpet leading towards giant double doors at the end of the hall and I

could see Zakerians stand to attention on either side of the carpet.

Azreal was petting a creature that was nestled onto his lap and it suspiciously looked like the one Eden set free into the vents.

I tried to get a better look and saw my collar clutched tightly in his other hand.

Oh.

Okay, then I guess that diversion ended fast. It has only been like an hour since we set that thing free to buy some time.

What is even more confusing is that I thought they were Azreals' enemies. Why is he sitting on a throne?

"Until we have our armies ready we need to bow down to him like peasants. He took down our last fleet moments ago." I hear Ragnar say as if reading my mind.

"And if you dont? why not just attack him?"

"We already tried that. We didn't stand a chance."

Azreal won against an entire race. I let that sink in.

"Is he like some King? does He have armies?" Ragnar looked at me strangely. It's not my fault I don't keep up with the Zakerians and their drama. I'm fighting to survive every single day.

"No, he fights alone."

"You may not see it yet, but he's the epitome of pure evil. There is nothing blacker than whatever his soul is made of."

I agree.

"He's nice enough to let you guys gather your armies to fight him. He's giving you a chance to fight him on even terms despite being able to kill everyone off instantly, right?"

Ragnar gave me a calm look before promptly replying.

"He has unique ways of finding entertainment. I think you'd know that by now."

Oh right. I forgot why Azreal kept me around.

Although, he treated me fairly well compared to the slaves that were found here. An image of his Silver hair and curious green eyes flashed in my mind's eye. Half smiles, curious stares mixed in with a sneer or two. That's how he was around me. Not that I've forgotten the punishments and the pain I have received from him either.

I mean I knew he was evil from the start but Is he so bad to the point Ragnar would say those things despite being a powerful alien himself?

"Yes, he is worse than what you've led yourself to believe."

Okay, can he read my mind?

"No I can't read your mind but you wear your emotions on your sleeve like a fool." He mumbled his blue eyes smiling at me. perhaps that's how Eden knew I would help his cause. it probably shows on my face.

I gaped at him.

It's not like I want to be an open book. On a side note, Ragnar seemed to be laid back and cheerful for a species that came to kill my kind. When we speak I wonder if he finds it amusing. Is this his way of 'pet talk' like talking to a pet animal? I hope not.

I let my shoulders sink as my mind kept racing with uncomfortable thoughts.

"You can't see it now because he hides it well. That's what He's good at.

True evil is not simply a loud-mouthed villain with pretentious ambitions. True evil is quiet, calm, and deadly. It comes at you when you least expect it."

I looked at Azreal once again. His calm posture and regal aura screamed some type of royalty.

But his unblinking gaze ahead sent an eerie chill up my spine as I started to remember every time he quietly observed me with that same gaze. He was always patient. Did he have some evil plan up his sleeve? Ragnar looks like a seasoned warrior and even he is apprehensive about that God-like creature sitting on that throne.

The sound of drums started to echo all around us. I watched two double doors open and Zakerian warriors started to enter one by one followed by humans in chains. They were marching towards the throne.

"What's happening?" I asked Ragnar as my gaze followed the frightened faces of my people. I recognized them from the cells I visited not too long ago.

"Your little attack on our ship caused a lot of damage. It's currently undergoing reconstruction."

So? You guys destroyed the entire human civilization. A ship is nothing.

"That doesn't answer my question."

Ragnar laid a large hand on my shoulder and I stilled. Not wanting to make any sudden movements. Is he going to kill me?

"It's a warning message to your people." He whispered next to my ear and my eyes widened in response.

A woman and a child were brought in front of Azreal and I watched in horror as they separated the two. They started to assemble a mechanism that looked like a pole and tied the screaming woman to it.

"Please dont! My baby needs me!"

I can hear the Child sobbing all the way up here and the sound was gut-wrenching.

Killing innocents was their warning? maybe it's to show how uncaring and cruel they are. Women and children don't matter.

"No," I whispered. My voice quivering.

I watched one of the warriors light a torch on fire.

No, they wouldn't. God, please.

They set the mother on fire.

"NO!" I felt My fist pound the glass that was in front of me. I can hear her scream in agony and I see the people all around her watching this horror with a smile.

I felt My face become wet with tears as I watched Azreal sit on that throne smiling alongside everyone else. He was enjoying this. That monster was enjoying her suffering.

"I need to stop them." I can't cower out of fear.

I pounded the glass harder. I need to get down there. I need to do something.

I saw all the other humans in chains look away. How dare they?

This can't be happening. "Azreal please stop them." I sobbed knowing he can't hear me. The small smile on his face as he watched everything unfold destroyed my heart further.

I watched the little boy cry as his mother was being burnt to ash.

The words "Momma" reached my ears making me more frantic. I tried pounding the glass harder in hopes it will shatter. The woman's wails started to turn into screams. Gut-wrenching screams.

And all I could do was sob and look ahead with my eyes wide open.

Her voice started to fade out and my body was shaking where I stood.

She finally went silent and I could hear them all clap. Shout their cheers.

I felt nothing but sorrow and thundering rage right up to my drumming heart. I was in a state of shock at their cruelty towards us.

But it didn't end there.

They brought the little boy onto his knees and I saw one of the warriors take out a whip with a tip that looked deadly. They removed his clothes stripping him naked, and they touched his back almost gently. Before stepping back.

My rage ignited inside me in a way I couldn't comprehend.

They're all evil. They're all monsters and they deserve to rot in hell.

This is the same warrior that burnt the child's mother. He hauls back with an evil grin on his Alien features before bringing the whip down on that child.

I twirled around and my hand went towards the sword that was strapped to Ragnar's side.

"Wait, human. Don't-"

I don't listen.

An Energy I've never felt before runs through me and I feel myself glow white. I look at Ragnar as he takes a step back. I looked down at the sword I was holding and the blade was glowing white. I feel some kind of power rush through me as I cut the glass in front of me, clean in half.

The glass splits into two and shatters, the white crystals shimmering around me, and for a second the world stills. The noise fades out as I realize what I'm about to do.

I jump down.

The white energy around me helps me levitate as I landed right before the warrior who was about to give his second blow onto that child.

My body moves on its own as I swing the sword and cut his head clean off his shoulders.

There was a loud thud followed by dead silence.
