Chapter 1 : 5

That night we had curry rice and sauced grilled chicken for dinner. hermes was all l could think about, how he winked at me.i couldn't eat as the butterflies in my tummy wouldn't settle down

it was Lisa, temaine,mom and i at the dinning table since mika was at her dad's family house and kobby was sleeping . after dinner mom tucked Lisa and Maine in bed while l did the dishes.

The next morning was glorious, a peaceful Sunday morning with only chirping birds and whistling trees. it was becoming a pattern to fall out of bed as that happened again. it was quite chilly so l knew my siblings were going to have a hot bath, it was few minutes past 8 when l headed to the kitchen . l met mom making pancakes

" Good morning mom" l said

" Good morning" she replied without looking back

then the doorbell rang, I knew she was going to ask me to get it so l did

"Good morning" l said to the strange man at the door

although l had never seen him before l could swear that he looked familiar

" l am looking for a Miss raeys?" he said

which of them? l questioned inwardly

both my mom and l answered miss raeys since l didn't have a dad

" Am miss raeys" l said

he looked stunned

" Who is it? " mom yelled from the kitchen

"Blue?" The man said

who? l questioned again inwardly.

then l felt a presence before me. Mom!

she looked like she had just seen a ghost

"Amiya, go in" she said

Why was she sending me away l wondered as l walked away but my curiosity got the best of me and I hid inside the cloak room

it was an empty room just few feets from the entrance door

"What do you want Simon?" mom asked the stranger

"You know why am here ."

" I have no idea " mom denied

"my son" he said

what son? hermes was kobby's dad

" he is not your son" mom blurted

" at least let me see him" Simon pleaded

" Maine is not you son, he doesn't need you and he never will" mom said angrily

"blue..."

mom slammed the door and l dashed like lightening to set the table

mom was quiet and upset during breakfast

she yelled at her precious Lisa for using the wrong cutlery to eat her pasta .

after breakfast, she left with Lisa to the salon and l once again had to babysit .

I sat on my bed reading one of the mom's magazine when the doorbell rang

who was it?

mom had a key and we rarely had guest.

surprisingly it was the man from earlier

" my mom isn't home" l said

" l know that, l waited in my car for her to leave before coming back" he said with a grimmy smile

" can l come in? "

he didn't look like a threat to me and he just wanted to see his son. he was dressed in a neat pair of sky blue jean trousers, a brown shirt which had "NEW YORK CITY" inscripted on it and a neat pair of brown and white Nike sneakers

i snapped out of it and l could see how embarrassed he was.

"sure" l replied letting him in

" what would you want to drink?" l asked making my way to the kitchen

" just water"

"so?" l asked wanting a piece of information but not wanting to ask for it as l handed him the glass of cold water

" Thank you" he said playing dumb

this man wasn't willing to thrill me l told myself

"my mom would be home any minute" l said but he seemed distracted

I turned to see Maine coming down the stairs

I panicked

"Go to your room" l yelled

I had no idea why l did that

not like Simon was going to harm his own son, l just didn't know how else to react

as Maine made his way back up l looked back at Maine. the resemblance was clear

the face, the brunette hair, the eyes

a smiled formed on Simon's face

he seemed pleased

" you have to leave " l said nervous

he didn't even argue or plead for more time

he dropped the glass of water untouched and left

my heartbeat raced

what had l done? mom would kill me if she ever found out
