CHAPTER NINE
FRED'S POV
"What happened to her! This is the last time I'd ask this question." I said as I stared at the maids.
"Sir, sincerely speaking we don't know, Miss Eva was coming from the staircase when she slipped down." The head cook said in tears.
"Wow, I see, are you trying to tell me that my daughter is clumsy?"
"Sir, there was a liquid substance placed on the stairs. It seems it was done intentionally."
"What! Which of you tried to kill my daughter?"
"What's going on here?" I turned to see Clara with Eve, who immediately burst into tears on spotting me.
"You, what're you doing here? Why are you with Eve?" I said as I hurriedly went to take the wailing Eve out of her hands.
"Well, I heard what happened and decided to come over." She said as I stared at her suspiciously. The last time she came, I remember how she treated Eva which prompted me to go ahead with the preparations for Audrey's wedding. But here she is again, if not that she wasn't here when the incident occurred, nothing would have stopped me from taking her to jail, but wait how did she get the information to come here.
"You heard? I can't remember telling you anything like that." I said as I stared at her.
"Who gave you the information?"
"Well.... tccch." She said and clicked her tongue.
"Cat got your tongue?" I said staring at her, while everyone turned to her direction.
"Does it really matter on how I got the information? What matters is that I'm here. You know Eva is also my daughter, so if anything bad happens to a child isn't the mother of the child welcomed?"
"That doesn't answer my question. The question is who informed you?"
"Well....."
"I did." A maid immediately spoke.
"Why would you do that?"I asked staring at her.
"Well, Ma Clara told me to inform her on anything concerning her daughters, so that's what I did."
I scoffed as I stared at the maid and Clara, Hmm there's something fishy going on here, they might have scaled through this, but next time I won't let it slide.
With little Eve in my hands I left the house as the guards drove me to the hospital. Luckily, Eva's case isn't critical, thank goodness she didn't break a leg. Clara is really biting more than she can chew. I wonder what little Eva did to her? Though Anna and her were kinda rivals, she shouldn't pour it out on the innocent kid. I really need to get rid of Clara, I've been avoiding the court but with the way things are going, I think the court needs to resolve this. I don't want her close to my children again.
I walked in and found her on the bed looking so beautiful as she slept. Gosh! I don't know what I would do again if I lose her. I don't think I would have a life.i watched as little Eve stared at her with emotional eyes. God even though the lady Audrey and her mother are gold diggers, they're still preferable than Clara. I need to be fast about this marriage, even though there isn't love in it, I would sacrifice anything for my daughters. I can't let Eve grow up getting used to her Mum, her bad life would rub off on her and the love and laughter would be gone and would be replaced with Anger and hatred. I can't let that happen.
"Dad!"
"Eva, my baby, you're awake?" I said as I quickly wiped my puffy eyes and patted her hair while Eve giggled with joy as Eva opened her eyes.
"Tad, efa." I laughed as I watched her try to call our names, with her little mouth. What's better than this? Me and my beautiful girls. I can't believe nature can be weird, it took someone valuable from me and blessed me with two. Gosh, my Eggs are the best thing that ever happened to me.
"Dad what happened to me? Why am I in the hospital?"
"Baby you slipped."
"Oh, and then I passed out? Just like in the movies?"
"Yes dear."
" Hope I didn't break a leg"
"You didn't, if you did you would have felt the pain." I said in between laughter.
"Dad, I've been wanting to ask you this question."
"Yeah, baby go on"
"Dad I once asked you when we would get a new Mum, and you said you'd get back to me. It's a year now and I'm waiting for a reply, Since you don't wanna marry Aunt Clara."
Jeez, this girl doesn't forget something, well thank goodness I have a solution to this.
"Next week dear." I said while she squealed.
"Daddy, I love you. I can finally have a mum also." She said and my heart stopped, I stared at her with a painful smile.
"Dad, aren't you happy?"
"Of course I am, just work issues."
"Then stop working. I don't wanna see you like this." As little as she is, she acts so matured, just like her Mum.
"Daddy can I ask one more question?"
"Yes, I'm listening."
"I hope our new mum wouldn't be as mean as Clara? I'm sorry I said that."
"Why are you sorry? You didn't do anything wrong."
"I'm sorry for calling her mean."
"Of course she's and don't worry, I'd make sure your new mum isn't anything close to mean okay, She would be the most lovely person you've met, though I'm exempted, I said while she went hysterical with laughter."
"I love you dad, thanks for getting me a new mum." She said, while my face fell. How would I cope with a woman I don't know or love? Jeez, I just got to see how this goes.
AUDREY'S POV
We both sat staring at the other. Sincerely speaking I felt like pouring out my anger on him, but I don't know what was keeping me from doing that. I wished he will say something, but he wasn't forth coming. He just stared at me, he looked so pathetic that moment, when did Mr Egocentric become pathetic?
"Fine, this is a staring game right? You haven't seen a cute guy before."
What, my mind screamed, but my tongue was tied.
"Keep staring at me all the day, it you weren't ready why did you guys send for me." Saying that, he got up to leave.
"Wait! "
Wow I finally found my tongue.
"Why do you want to marry me? Am I too irresistible?" What did I just say, oh no.
He turned and stared at me in a disgusting manner.
"What did you say? Let me tell you this and get this into your dumb skull, I regret the day I met you. And why would I fall for you? Geez, look how skinny you are, you aren't even beautiful. You got to be happy that I'm stooping so low to marry you."
I felt the tears rush down my face, did he just call me ugly? I can't take this.
"You can't fool me with those crocodile tears of yours. Well I've already accepted to marry you, though it isn't my will and our wedding is in four days time. So there isn't any space for regrets. I can't imagine I'm getting married to someone I never knew. Can you believe this our first time meeting."
I stared at him as the tears kept gushing out, what's he saying that it isn't his will and that he was forced. I don't get it.
"Did you didn't do it freely?"
"Does that matter anymore? I'm already getting married. You got to be prepared, tomorrow we're going for our photo shoot. "
I just stood staring at him as the tears gushed out my eyes, what's happening here, it seems there's a misunderstanding here. I can't marry a guy that doesn't have feelings for me. I need to end it right now.
"I'm sorry, I'm not going." I said wiping my tears.
"Why?" He said staring at me.
"Well, I've cancelled the wedding. I'm no longer marrying you, I'm not interested."
"What!" He screamed as he stared at me in shock. "You can't do that, our wedding is by the corner."
"I said I'm no longer interested." I said yelling as I stared at him.
"You can't do this." He said with pleading eyes.
Gosh, what's wrong with the guy? He was the one who called me a gold digger and says he was forced to marry me, so why is he pleading.
"How much more do you want? Okay I take it back you're the most beautiful woman I've ever met and you aren't a good digger." He said.
I couldn't take it anymore that I had to slap him. "Who do you think you are?" I yelled as tears built up in my eyes.
" Do I look like a sort of toy to you? Look I can't marry a man who doesn't love me and to make it worst not a man with a great Ego."
" I don't know what you're driving at, he said staring at me, but one thing I want you to know is that this wedding must hold."
"Force me." I said walking out of the room, such a crazy jerk. I cause the day I met him, that was the worst day of my life.
