ALTERNIVERSE (Original Short Story)

In the year 2078 technology has advanced tremendously, making strides in several scientific and medical discoveries. The greatest feat was when the american and britain intelligent centers combined their efforts to create a suborbital station for cutting edge tech. The experiment that held the top priority was furthering their advancements with dark matter. Needless to say an accident happened that blew a hole in the side of the space station and dark matter particles spread throughout the atmosphere. The resulting spread of dark matter created the first generation of meta-humans changing the world forever. Ten years have passed since and the government did what they could to cover up most of the incident, completely hiding the fact that unpredictable dark matter has covered the world. The space station has since been fully restored and resumed their business but now has even tighter protocols to prevent another disaster

ALTERNIVERSE: Chapter eleven

It doesn't take long after the fight for the authorities to descend upon the destroyed brewery. Mr. Hall steps out of one of the many black SUVs that pull into the brewery's lot. Pinpoint, Zero and a few other heroes arrive on the scene as well. The unconscious bodies of Horizon, Hexen, and Daniel are rushed for immediate medical attention due to their serious injuries inflicted on them by Transmuters Pace Racer takes off in a blur to check the surrounding area for any clues to track down Transmuter and his crew. Alpha Moon takes a small group of SWAT to check out the inside of the building. Daniel is picked up on a stretcher as the medical personnel starts checking his vitals seeing he is still unresponsive but shows no injuries on his body. Other doctors and nurses try their best to regulate oxygen into Horizons lungs after Transmuter crushed his throat, leaving a bruise mark in the shape of a hand. Hexen has been lifted onto a stretcher and being moved to an ambulance when she weakly grabs onto one of the nurse's sleeves.

"Pl… plea…" She says in a quiet, raspy voice. "Freddie's… he's still in there…" Zero overhears Hexen's plea and doesn't hesitate running into the building.

Zero enters the devastated main hall where the fight went down to see the SWAT members searching the debris-filled room and Alpha Moon helping B.A.D get to his feet. "Have you found Freddie yet?"

"Freddie? Who the fuck is that?" Alpha Moon pushes past Zero, bringing B.A.D to the exit. "We don't have time for messing around, kid."

Zero grows a scowl hearing from such selfishness come out of the mouth of a proclaimed hero. His black lightning begins to spark around him as he raises both of his hands. The gravity in the room starts to diminish as the rubble and debris slowly float up off the ground to eventually see the lifeless body of Freddie on the ground. Zero hurries over, picking up the body with care in his arms then turning around to leave while shooting a glare at Alpha Moon. Once he leaves the room all the debris and rubble hit the ground with a hard thud as the gravity is put to normal.

It takes the authorities a while to get the whole place cornered off from the public and media as they investigate the situation. Pinpoint takes this time to approach Zero who's taking in it all.

"How are you holding up, kid?" Pinpoint asks placing a hand on the Zeros shoulder.

Zero just gives him a quick nod. "Yeah, I just can't believe what happened here."

"Well believe it. This is what happens when you decide to fight the most dangerous man in the world. I'm surprised only one person died out of all this." Says Pinpoint.

"So who was the Freddie guy, anyway?" Zero asks looking over at the covered body by the ambulances.

"His full name is Freddie Simoni a.k.a The Magician. A vigilante just like the other two that were brought in just now. If anything they were here for the same reason B.A.D and Daniel were."

"And that would be?" Zero says in a questioning tone.

"Oh right, they don't tell you much since you're new. We had a lead about one of the escapees from the city riot. Looks like we have a mole in the organization because the Vigilantes got here before us." Pinpoint folds his arms looking at Freddie's body.

"Maybe if we got here before them we could've stopped this from happening." Zero walks off towards the rest of the group by the vehicles that were just chatting.

Shay arrives in a back alleyway that's far from the main roads of the town. He takes the mask off his face, rubbing his eyes. Shay brings up his wrist close to his face. "I'm here, open the portal." And within seconds a portal opens up leading back to their hideout in Lumer City where the whole crew is waiting for him.

"See, I told you he would be just fine. You were worried for nothing" Mat says to Melissa before taking another sip of his drink. She points a finger at his glass as a little pulse of sound emits from the tip, shattering the glass thus spilling the drink over Mats pants.

"So what did you do to those idiot vigilantes when they got there? I bet they were livid that one of their own was dead, right?" Vernando says with a smile on her face.

"They were quite upset and it wasn't just them that showed up." The group looks at him curiously. "Cerberus and B.A.D came along, much to my surprise."

"B.A.D? Isn't that the guy you said you have by the balls? Why the fuck was he there?" Keyshawn asks.

"They just arrived in Helmburgh to try to track down Jose for answers. Normally I would be furious but seeing as he gave me a heads up I'll let it slide for now. Speaking of Jose, bring him to me."

"As you wish," Hyena says, bowing to Shay then quickly going into another room. A minute later he walks out, dragging Jose behind him by the collar. He drops Jose on the floor at Shay's feet.

"Tr-Transmuter… it's an honor to meet you, sir." Jose says while cowering in fear.

"Jose… because of your incompetence to keep a low profile we were almost exposed. I even had to lower myself by getting my hands dirty." Jose can do nothing but stammer trying to figure out how to respond. Before he could utter a word Shay puts a hand on Jose's face. "I have no use for you." His hand sparks with his red electricity as the inside of Jose's head bursts and blood drips from both the eyes and ears.

Jose's body drops to the floor with the blood from his head beginning to make a small pool of red underneath. Instantly everyone other than Keyshawn touches their nose as fast as they can leaving the clueless villain being stared at by the rest of them with a finger on their nose.

"...I'll get the mop," Keyshawn says walking towards the closet with the group chuckling at him while Melissa watches Shay leave down the hallway to his room.

Shay enters the room taking in a deep breath then slowly exhaling and sitting on his bed, elbows resting on the legs and his head down. When the door to his room opens again Melissa is seen standing in the doorway. "Do you need something?" He asks with his back turned to her.

Melissa says nothing as she approaches him and crouches down to meet his tired gaze. "Is everything ok? You seem a bit off?" She asks, moving her hand up to hold Shay's face.

Shay doesn't hesitate to rest his head in the palm of her hand, closing the eyes as he relaxes his body. "I'm just a little tired is all." Shay slowly opens his eyes to look at her. "You know I never apologized for pinning you and Osiris to the wall a month ago. I was just so on edge I sorta snapped."

Melissa smiles gently using her thumb to caress his face. "You don't need to apologize. Trying to take over the world is no easy feat. A task such as that is bound to have its toll on anyone." Her smile quickly shifts to a scowl as she pulls in Shay by the neck. "But don't you ever choke me like that again… unless it's in bed." Shay just nods in shock as she stands up from the floor. "Now I'm going to take a shower."

"Ok, I'll be he-"

"You're taking one with me."

Meanwhile, in the realm of the gods, Phin continues to enjoy his poolside fun with the demigoddess' as he enjoys the beautiful weather.

Lumina, a Goddess of fire with strawberry blonde hair, vibrant orange eyes, and a slim muscular physique, approaches Phin in the pool. "Hey, phin, the others and I have been wondering something."

"What might that be? Did you want to know if I was single? Well, you're in luck because I am." Phin says with a flirtatious smile.

Lumina bursts out laughing hearing Phins statement. "Funny and cute, I like that. But no, we were wondering why you have a golden aura around you?"

"Golden aura? Oh right, Jin mentioned that when we first met back on earth. I just thought he was messing with me."

"My brother is many things but a jokester is not one of them. This type of aura is only obtained through Godhood yet you're just a mortal from the earth. Not only that no other demigod has an aura such as yours."

Phin just shrugs his shoulders unable to answer her. "I honestly don't know why, pretty sure my parents were just ordinary humans. Mother is a kind and loving woman though my father abandoned us when I was a baby so I don't know much about him."

"Hmm. Maybe you should go seek council from the gods. I'm sure they could tell you about your Golden aura." Lumina swims to the edge and lifts herself out of the water. The water turned to steam as her body temperature evaporated whatever water was left, leaving Phin to look on in awe. "Come, I'll take you to them."
