Let Her Stay

-CEDRIC-

“I’m sorry but I can’t disclose regarding that matter… for confidentiality purposes.”

My brows were pulled together upon hearing Mr. Cruz’s response. There is definitely a reason behind the sudden visit of Kylie’s mother!

“Why are you overreacting to this? She’s not a total loss to our class, you know. And so are you.” Sasha stated as a matter of fact.

“Now, now. Let’s begin our class for today, shall we?” said Mr. Cruz to gain back our attention.

Then afterwards, he started to discuss our topic for today. I wasn’t totally concentrating on what he is discussing right now with my thoughts still wondering what just happened.

When the school bell finally rang, which indicates the start of today’s two-hour break, instead of heading straight to the school cafeteria, I chose to check Kylie’s room in our dormitory building for Alpha Students.

I knocked a couple of times but no one is answering from the other side.

“Hello? Kylie? Are you still there?”

No response.

After a few more attempts, I finally gave up when no one is answering. I immediately decided to leave the dormitory building and headed towards the admin building where Mr. Cruz’s office can be located, along with other teachers’ offices.

With three consecutive knocks, the door of his office opened, and from it came out our adviser. He looked confused when he saw me standing outside.

“Sir, could you please tell me where is Kylie right now?” I said, looking straight in my teacher’s dark brown eyes. “I tried to look for her and she’s not even in her room anymore.”

Mr. Cruz looked a bit flabbergasted after I said those words and remained silent for a while. I took that time to catch my breath first from all that running I made from the dorm building to here.

“Well, her mom went here to pick her up today. She is planning to transfer Kylie to a different school.” He finally answered my question in a monotonous tone.

My eyes automatically went round after hearing his words just now.

“What?” I asked in disbelief. “Why would she do that?”

“After those two consecutive incidents where Kylie passed out from using her powers, it is the school’s protocol to let her family know about her health situation.” Mr. Cruz explained.

I didn’t bother to ask any more questions and ran my way out of here without a warning. They can’t be too far, right? If so, I’m pretty sure I could still see them walking or driving their way out of here.

Even though I started to feel exhausted from all that running I made for the past few hours, I tried my best to ignore it and concentrated on finding my friend.

It’s kinda unfair, you know. She just said earlier this morning that she won’t abandon me, and yet...here she is... suddenly leaving without bidding her farewell.

All that running I made from the admin building all the way down here in the school’s parking area wasn’t put to waste when I finally saw Kylie, with a trolley bag clutched to her right hand and standing right next to her mother. My timing was just perfect since she was about to go inside their BMW, but then she paused for a moment when she saw me from a distance.

“KYLIE!” I shouted at the top of my lungs which caused her mother to look at me also. Heaving out a sigh of relief, I ran my way towards them to close the gap between us, and when I did, that’s the time I stopped and faced her mother.

“I-I’m Cedric, a classmate of your daughter from Alpha Section.” I shamelessly decided to introduce myself in front of Kylie’s mother which she responded with one of her eyebrows arching at me.

“I know we aren’t that close for me to say this out loud, but…” Out of instinct, I lifted my right hand and slowly held her mother’s wrist as I looked at her straight to her eyes.

“Please, let her stay here in Eastwood High. Let her stay in Alpha Section.”

When I catch a glimpse of Kylie right now, I saw her eyes looked at me in disbelief with one hand covering her mouth. Well, as for her mother, I saw her expression turned from pissed to a confused one.

There was a moment of silence that made me nervous for a bit as I patiently waited for her response. But then when her mother breathed out a sigh, that’s the time she looked at me again.

“Alright then, I’ll let her stay in this school,” said Kylie’s mother which made me pull away my hand from her wrist and grinned triumphantly. Even Kylie smiled after hearing her mother’s words.

“Really mom? You’ll let me stay here?” Kylie asked, still in disbelief.

“Yes, only if you promise me you’ll take care of yourself and stay away from the things that may harm you.” her mother replied while lifting her right index finger in front of her in a preaching manner.

“Yes mom, I promise.” Kylie beamed and hugged her mother happily.

“Well then, I must leave now for I have an important client meeting to attend right now.”

And with that, her mother started to go inside their BMW and motioned for her driver to start driving. The guy seated in the driver’s seat willingly obliged and a few moments later, the car is now out of our sight.

Kylie grinned from ear to ear as she turned to look at me.

“How did you convince my mom for me to stay here? Even Mr. Cruz was having a hard time earlier to persuade her.” she curiously asked.

I remained silent for a while and pretended to think. “Maybe I have charms that your mother can’t resist?” I said playfully which made her chuckle.

“Alright then Mr. Charming. I won’t oppose to that.”

That made me laugh also until I offered my help of getting her heavy trolley bag from her and started pulling it until we reached her dormitory room.

Third Person’s POV

Meanwhile, without Cedric and Kylie knowing, someone is watching over them from a distance as they walked towards the girl’s dormitory room.

He lifted one hand and gently stroked his chin covered in black beard as he focused his gaze more on the lad. The moment those two are now out of his sight, a meaningful smile suddenly appeared at the corner of his lips.

“He is far more interesting than I have ever imagined…”
