18 About Us (Telling the story)
'Alpha Mark, come to your dad's office right away,' One of his men told Mark that his father, the past Alpha, was calling him. Quickly putting down the book he was reading, he entered his father's office.
He was allowed to enter after knocking. 'Why didn't you tell us you had found your mate?' He got denied the privilege of relaxing in one of the seats when his amused father roared that question.
'I don't like her,' He retaliated angrily at his father. The position of Alpha was previously been held by his father, but he now held it after receiving it less than a year prior and Mark didn't like that his father was speaking to him that tone.
'We are not allowed to choose our partners.
I expect you to be responsible and wolf up. The moon goddess chose her for you.'
His nose flared as the debate continued, 'Aside from me, no one has ever gotten a mate from there. You would've been enraged if you were the one that got one of those women as a mate. Maybe the moon goddess' match had an error or fault.'
'You would make sure that this link isn't broken. We will uphold our end of the bond. They can choose to accept or reject this,' Before storming out of the office, his father commanded.
He was still his father, even though he was no longer the Alpha. Now that the Alpha was his son, he would always have a say in his personal life as long as he was still alive.
Mark wasn't interested in getting a mate from the Hilltop pack for many reasons. Hilltop pack afforded the ladies leadership opportunities more than any of the packs did.
Most of their fighters were female. It hadn't been the case before Judith's birth. Before her birth, Hilltop had male Alphas, but her father had to give that role to her.
The women became their pack's most courageous members ever since then.
However, most men who were not interested in fighting chose to work as doctors, teachers, farmers, or in other less dangerous occupations.
Because of this, a woman, Judith, was the Alpha instead of a man.
It was a woman, a ruthless warrior who had won every conflict and never lost a fight before.
Anyone who posed a threat to her pack got tortured by her. During meetings between the Alphas, she would make demands and lay out her requirements.
She would never allow anyone to petition anything on behalf of the Hilltop pack, and she would never do the same on behalf of any other Alpha over hers.
It appeared she came to the meeting to tell the males to stop interfering with her pack's rule.
He also thought that the moon goddess was an unjust one. She treated the Hilltop pack more favorably than the other packs.
There had been prophecies about how wonderful the Alpha from Hilltop would be since before she was even born- about how she intended to govern over numerous packs.
Every werewolf in her pack was content when she was born, except for the other packs.
They interpreted it to indicate that a woman would reign over them, and that was exactly what they were witnessing.
Judith got treated with greater reverence than before, and everyone dreaded her after a prophecy claimed that she was bound to her Pack's throne.
She also had a strong sense of self-confidence and never gave anyone the chance to put her to the test.
Mark detested that this woman had to be his mate out of all the women who may have been.
He also came from a pack where male members played the most dangerous duties. The women from the Ace pack selected less violent professions, just like the men from the Hilltop pack did.
He might therefore mention to his father that, even though the moon goddess herself had chosen Judith as his mate, he was not yet prepared to accept her as his partner.
