Twenty-six

I pulled away from my mothers embrace and locked in with her beautiful brown eyes, "I love you, baby." She mumbled. I nodded and gave her a smile. I know she knew I loved her too.

"Well, where are we headed now?" She asked curiously. As much as I wanted to leave this god awful pack, I knew I couldn't be too far from Levi. What would happen if my heat began and he couldn't get here in time? I cannot afford to die in the hands of my mother.

"I have a friend here. We can go to her and hideout there for awhile." I mumbled before grabbing her hand and marching towards the pack house. I haven't been at the pack house since the day I ran away for the first time. To think that if I would've successfully ran away that day, none of this would've happened.

I took a deep breath, no need to dwell on the past so much Naomi. This is where I am now and I have to get myself out of it.

"Naomi, darling, can I ask you a question?" My mother spoke up. "Yeah of course mom, what's up?" I replied.

"What is a heat?"

I stopped in my tracks and cringed. Speaking to my mom about heats would be like explaining where babies come from to a child.

I continued walking and bit my lip. "It's something that a woman goes through…" I said. She hummed and stayed silent for awhile.

"More detail?"

"Mom it's- it's just really not something that's easy to talk about…" I stuttered out. She stopped walking and I turned around to look at her.

"Naomi, I saw what it did to you. That was… scary for me, you have to understand that you're still my little girl even, after all this mess has happened. I want to know, I want to help."

"I seriously doubt you'll be able to help."

She stood there with a solid face, not convinced. Now I see where I get my hard-headedness from. I sighed and pulled her over to sit on the forest ground.

"When a girl finds her mate they usually go through a somewhat easy process." I started off slow, "they fall in love, go through the marking process," I pointed at the mark on my neck and rolled my eyes and she nodded, "then if they haven't mated in a few days after that they go through a heat."

"And a heat is?" She asked.

Here we go.

"Its basically an excruciating burning pain inside the girls body that occurs on and on until the mates… uh, do it.." i said.

I've never been in such a awkward situation in my life!

"Do what?"

I threw my hands in the air dramatically and yelled, "sex! Yes mom, I will go through excruciating burning pain until I have sex with Levi! Are we done now?"

Her mouth was agape and she nodded her head. We sat in silence and then broke out in a fit of laughter.

"Oh my God, the whole pack house probably heard me!" We both continued to laugh hysterically despite the shit show we were in.

We eventually stopped and made our way to the pack house. Two guards were standing by the door and they looked at us with blank expressions. Their eyes clouded over and I immediately could tell that they were mind-linking Levi.

"Excuse me, I need to get in here immediately." I said with my head held high, looking one of them in the eyes.

"I apologize, Luna, but we have strict orders to keep you out here with us until Levi comes to get you." The guard said.

"I need to get in here, now." I tried again with a more strict voice. I was supposed to be Luna right? I can order them.

"Listen here, I need to see Amaya now! If you don't let me and my mother through those doors right now you will be in a world full of pain! Now, open them!"

The guard ran his hand down his face and he let out a distressed sigh, "Luna, please-"

I cleared my throat, crossed my arms and raised my eyebrow, letting him know I was not letting this go.

"Fine. But when Levi comes, you will answer to him. Not me," he said and then opened the pack doors. My mother and I walked in and she smiled at me.

"You truly are a natural at this, Naomi."

I was afraid she would say that. I gave her a weak smile and we walked up the stairs, I passed Levi's office and couldn't help but take a peak inside out of curiosity. I saw a figure moving around in there and I cracked open the door.

Charlotte sat on my mate's desk with black, lacy lingerie on. Wait, did I just refer to Levi as my mate?

She flipped around with a seductive look on her face, she immediately lost it as soon as she realized it was me.

"Oh, it's you." She looked me up and down and hopped off his desk, stalking toward me.

"The little cheating Luna who has my alpha wrapped around her little fingers." She smirked at me.

I chuckled, "in the flesh. And it's you, the little home wrecking skank who just can't seem to keep her hands off my mate."

She grinned, "what can I say? He's a irresistible man." I refrained from punching her in the face.

"You're no good for this pack and you treat Levi like garbage even though he's trying his absolute hardest for you. He's a alpha who needs to be able to rule with a strong woman.

She took a step toward me and whispered, "he needs a woman he can dominate without being worried that he'll snap her in half.

"And based on what I see, unfortunately, you just don't fit those categories."

Welp, that definitely hit hard. She was right. Levi was way stronger than me, he can't even lay a finger on me without accidentally harming me.

But I wasn't going to let her know that.

"Levi needs a woman who can challenge him and push him to limits, not a little girl who gets on her knees after he says a single word." I looked her up and down as well and mocked her, "and based on what I see, you don't fit those categories."

She was no longer smiling and a angered look fell upon her face, "you will pay for ruining my future and this pack's future." She grabbed a robe off the floor and put it on, leaving quickly.

I turned around to my mother who was standing in the hallway, looking upset. "Is this how the pack members treat humans?"

I shrugged and walked out of Levi's office, "only the bitchy ones."

I had finally made it to Amaya's room and before I could knock she opened the door and pulled me into a hug. "Naomi!" She called out, "I missed you girl!"

I grinned as I embraced her, "I missed you too!" I pulled away, "but I need a favor.."
