Chapter 5

  Vincent

It felt like I just closed my eyes when I felt Elvin waking me up telling me we arrived, I sighed running my fingers through my hair. I sighed shaking my head to calm my racing mind praying it's not what I think it is they have called me for. I got down from the car with Elvin following my actions as he walked around locking the car, I looked at the building in front of me, it was a small two story building where the Elders and the werewolf council worked together.

"Don't worry, we will figure things out if it really is what we think it is" Elvin assured giving my shoulder a squeeze

"You don't have to keep reminding me that" I replied as I walked to the front door with him following right behind me

"Don't bite my head off for that now" he replied with a scoff

I didn't bother answering him and quietly walked inside making my way to one of the conference room's. It's the place where all meetings take place, I have been here a lot of times to know everything about this place. I was greeted by the people who work with the Elders and council members, they bowed respectfully as I walked past them nodding in return. I sighed taking a deep breath once I stood in front of the conference room, I knocked on the door waiting for them to let me in. As a King, I really didn't have to, but I respected them enough to not do anything bad as walking right in, besides, my mother raised me better than that. She would have have my head if she found out I pulled something like that, I saw as one the staff members opened the door for me greeting me respectfully as they waited for me to enter the room.

"Good day King Vincent" I heard Elder Jade say with a polite smile on his face, he has been like a close family friend for as long as I can remember

"Good Afternoon Elder Jade" I greeted smiling back at him

"Come on, have a seat, we were just getting everything set up for lunch" he said motioning for me to sit on the my seat

"Don't even try, you will have lunch with us and then the meeting will start" he added leaving no room for arguments, I sighed nodding my head as I sat down on my chair

"Come on Beta Elvin, you need to sit down as well, I didn't think you needed an invitation" Elder Jade said looking at Elvin with a chuckle

"I was just waiting to see how long you would take to notice me"Elvin replied with a little laugh of his own

"We will have the omega's serving us lunch soon, do you want to have anything else?" they asked looking at us

"No, thank you for asking" I replied politely and he chuckled

"Quit the formality boy, you didn't think I will let you go without lunch, did you?" he asked looking at me and I just shrugged in response

"It has almost been a tradition for you to have lunch with us every time you come here for a meeting. How can you think we would let you go without eating? It's one of the rarest events to be able to share a meal with our King, we wouldn't miss it for the world" he said with a smile

"I just thought you would let me go today, considering it's Fabian's Alpha ceremony" I replied

"I don't think skipping lunch would make you attend the ceremony, so it's better we don't skip lunch" he replied with a smile on his face

I simply nodded my head, I was getting impatient to know what the meeting was about, but unfortunately for me, I can't show it to them. We waited as the omega's served us food, and once the food was served, we ate our food in silence. Elder Jade was one of the oldest member of the council, his word of advice is never to be taken lightly, and I had a lot of love and respect for him.

But, I still wanted this meeting to be over already because I didn't want to miss my best friend's ceremony, and who am I to say, he might find his mate because almost all of the pack were coming for the ceremony. The thought of my mate made my wolf howl in sadness, I have started losing hope, but he say we will find our mate soon. I hope it's before I either lose my patience or before I am forced to follow the tradition of getting myself a bride.

A sighed my lips and it was loud enough to unknowingly grab everyone's attention. I looked up to see everyone looking at me, I looked at Elder Jade and gave him a nod telling him I am fine. He nodded his head in response and soon all of us were back at eating our food, I have to admit the food is really good, but I still miss the food made at home by my mother. I don't think there is another woman who can cook as good as my mother does, I pushed the thoughts away from my head focusing on my food. Soon all of us were done with food, we washed our hands and drank water before getting back into our seats, Elder Jade asked for the omega's to get us a cup of coffee after a while to which they nodded their head walking out of the room.

"All of you wanted to talk about something" I said looking at them once the staff was out

"Yes King Vincent" one of the council members said, I nodded my head for them to continue

"First of all we would like to say that we are really happy with your rule, the way you have been taking care everything reminds us of your father" he said, I nodded my head as I looked around at the white walls that were decorated with some beautiful paintings of wolves

"You have made sure to take care of everything, you have taken every responsibility and you are doing a marvelous job" Elder Jade added this time, I smiled at him grateful for his kind words

"There is one thing though that you need to focus on" Elder Jade said, he now had a blank expression on his face making it difficult for us to think what was going on in the old man's head, I just hope it is not what I think it is

"The throne needs a heir" he said still not breaking eye contact with me, what did I think will he say? I though scoffing internally

"I still haven't found my mate" I replied

"We know, but I don't think it would be right to wait for you to find your mate" the other member from earlier said

"You all know for the fact how stubborn my wolf is, he wouldn't accept anyone else as his mate" I said through my teeth trying to hide my anger that has been bubbling inside of me

'You won't accept anyone else either, although you keep saying you lost hope, but I know you don't want anyone but our mate so you don't get to put the complete blame on me" I heard my wolf Vince taunted in my head

'You don't have to sound so rude, you are the one that keep putting thoughts of our mate in my head' I replied irritatedly before blocking him out of my head

"Son, we understand your and your wolf's need to be with your mate, but you also know the chances of finding your mate in today's time is next to impossible" Elder Jade said calmly, I can see he was trying to not piss me off

"And who are we to say, even if you have a mate, with this tradition in place, she can already be marked and mated to someone else" a young council member said, I can see that he is new to the council, but that doesn't mean he could say anything because his words made a loud growl to erupt from deep within my chest in anger. My wolf felt like he was threatening our mate

"Son, you need to calm down" Elder Jade said, he held one of my hand while Elvin held the other in attempt to calm me down

"Karl, I think you should go out and check if everything is going well there" Elder Jade said looking at the young wolf who I now know as Karl before I could pounce on him

"Are you calm yet?" Elvin asked looking at me in annoyance

"Let go" I said calmly taking a deep breath to keep myself in check

"Vincent, it was wrong of Karl to say that, we know you would have felt it if that was the case, but the fact that you need to get married doesn't change" Elder Jade said calmly, all the other members of the council sat quietly, by the look on their face it looked like they didn't want to say anything to piss me any more than that Karl guy has

"I know, I know it's not easy, but you have to do this for the betterment of your pack and our world" Elder Jade said before I could raise my objection

"We need for you to follow the tradition and purchase your bride, it's the only way we have" the member from earlier said, I don't remember his name, but now I didn't want to remember his name at all

"Vincent, we know that you don't want to do this, and you are trying to object this, but please understand our hands are tied, we have to what is best for our world to live in peace" Elder Jade started speaking, I had a funny feeling about this, like I wasn't going to like what he had to say next

"Unfortunately, we had to issue an order from the council to get this done" he completed and a growl left my lips in annoyance before I could stop it, they trapped me, these old people fucking trapped me, I couldn't believe they would do something like this, they knew I would say no, so issued an order because despite being a King I cannot change their order especially if it is for the welfare of the pack and kingdom

"Remember you can only choose an Alpha female as your bride. I suggest you should start getting prepared" the other member said with a little smirk that I so wanted to wipe off his face

"Is that all?" I asked, I didn't want to say anything because I know nothing good will come out of my mouth right now

"Yes, that would be all" Elder Jade responded with a sad smile

"Please excuse me then, I will take your leave" I said getting up from my chair

"Don't worry, you will hear from me soon" Elvin assured, he knew exactly what was happening so he wanted to make sure they don't piss me off any more

I didn't bother saying anything else, I walked out of the conference room making my way to the front door. I could see the confused looks the staff had on their faces, I just walked out and sat down in the passenger seat, Elvin came right after pulling the car in drive.

"Take me back home" I told Elvin, he knew better than to say anything else, he just drived the car in silence
