27 Betrayal of a family

"Scarlet!" Aurora exclaimed with joy as she spotted her best friend. Tears welled up in her eyes, and she extended her arms for a hug.

Scarlet immediately embraced her, instinctively creating space between them and David. David chuckled and moved away, giving them room.

Aurora had never been happier to see someone. Scarlet was finally back. She held onto Scarlet tightly, allowing the tears she had been holding back to flow freely.

Scarlet let her cry and continuously patted her back, offering comfort. She knew Aurora's plans to escape must have failed, judging by how defeated she looked. But why was she here? She should be in the dungeon if they had caught her.

"Aurora, what happened? Why are you here?" Scarlet asked, and Aurora finally released her from the embrace.

Feeling embarrassed, Aurora avoided eye contact and fiddled with her fingers as she replied, "I couldn't escape, and things got worse."
