He's Human, Right?

~Justin~

I rush outside and take a deep breath. I don't know what just came over me. I hated to see Janessa dancing with that man, his hands all over her. Being that close to her was heaven and I didn't want to move. My hands on her, I don't think I've ever felt anything better.

I can't keep doing this! I can't keep losing mind when I'm around Janessa. I need to stop indulging in non professional activities. I'm pacing up and down the alley on the side of the club. I probably should go back inside since I came with Katie. She was not happy that I walked away from her and I'm sure she saw me approach Janessa.

I hear a noise down the alley. It sounds like someone kicking a can. I stand still and try to hear any other noise that may be out there. "Well, well….who do we have here?" I can hear the voice behind me, but I can't see anything without a light. The alley is so dark, I can't see my hand in front of my face. I feel a breath on my right ear, "You smell fresh." An instant later, I can feel breath on my left ear, "I wonder how you taste.". I close my eyes and concentrate on what I can hear. I'm able to quiet the sound of cars driving down the street and people walking/talking. I quiet my own breathing, making sure I'm taking deep enough breaths.

I can hear the swishing of air around me. I, silently, count to three in my head then I send a punch to my right, connecting with a face. "Ugh." I stand and listen again. I count to three in my head and then throw a punch to my left, connecting again. I stand, quietly, once more and count to three. I throw a knee up at a 90 degree angle and I hear a groan once it connects. I hear a thud on the ground. I pull my phone out to shine my light and at my feet is a vampire writhing in agony. I quickly run out of the alley and head for home.

I make my way back to the VIP section feeling completely dejected. We had a moment and I know that I didn't imagine it. Every time we get close, he runs away. I'm supposed to be the one who is struggling with things, not him. I just wish I knew what happened.

'I will tell you what didn't happen. You didn't let me take control. Had I been able to, we would be bent over somewhere and mate would be buried bal…..'

'SKY! Shut the hell up would you?! I swear everything is about sex with you.'

'No, everything isn't about sex. It's just that unlike you, I'm completely okay with giving into my feelings rather than trying to fight them.'

I can't take this right now. I get back to the table and start to throw shots back. Lana is still on the dance floor and Gemma is simply watching me get obliterated. I drink shot after shot until everything around me gets blurry.

My head is pounding. It is so damn bright in here. Did they turn on every light in this club for some reason? I try to move, but my whole body feels stiff. My mouth is extremely dry and I feel gross. I finally pry an eye open slightly and notice my surroundings look familiar. I'm in my room, but I don't remember how I got here. Honestly, I don't remember much after dancing with Justin.

I gently get up and make my way to the shower. I hop in and marvel at how good the water feels on my skin. The shower is waking me up, slowly, but I still don't remember much of the night. I get out of the shower and look at myself in the mirror. My makeup is smeared all over my face, so I wash it all off. I head to the closet to find a sweat outfit to put on. I quietly head downstairs with every step making my head pound.

I make it to the dining room and head to the table. "Well, well! She is still alive!" I glare at Lana hoping that she will turn the volume down for a bit. I sink into my chair and a cup of coffee appears in front of me.

"I was worried for a minute," Gemma says to me. "I don't think I've ever seen you drink like that." I tried to say something intelligent, but it all came out as a mumble. "Do you want to talk about it?" I look up from my coffee and frown causing Lana and Gemma to start giggling. I'm not sure what is funny, but my head hurts too much right now for me to care.

I continue to sip on my coffee, trying to allow the caffeine to fully wake me up. "Alpha…Alpha!" Who the hell is that yelling at me right now? I look up to see my warrior Markus running up to me. He was the warrior we had stationed outside while we were inside the club. "Good morning Alpha. I wanted to show you what happened last night?"

"What do you mean?" I croaked out. I'm still not fully awake.

"Some human beat up a vamp last night." Maybe I'm still very drunk and heard him wrong. A human beat up a vampire, yeah right.

"Wait, a human killed a vampire?" Lana questions Markus, but he just shakes his head.

"No, the vamp wasn't killed. The guy was definitely human. I was going to help him out when I noticed the vampire targeting him. Before I could get to him, he incapacitated the vamp and ran away."

"Markus, are you sure you weren't drinking like Alpha here last night?" Gemma chuckles and shakes her head. Markus sighs.

"Here, just watch the video."

"Video? Where did the video come from?" I finally found my voice to chime in.

"I recorded it," Markus says with a huge smile on his face. He pulls his phone out and we all huddle around it.

"Hey, that guy looks familiar," Lana comments.

"Well that looks like…..it can't be…..is that..." Gemma can't seem to complete a sentence. I watch the video and start to feel anxious.

"That's Justin."

"Um….I thought you guys said he was a human?" Lana looks thoroughly confused and I don't blame her.

"I swear Justin is human! I mean I had to talk this one off the ledge because of it," Gemma motions to me. Markus looks between us with confusion. I gulp and look around the dining room.

"Can we take this to my office? Now?" I turn to Markus. "Please send me that video."

"Sure thing Alpha." I didn't wait to see if I was being followed. I turn around and head out of the room towards my office. This is crazy! How the hell did Justin knock a vampire out? The video is clear as to what happened, but Justin is human and there is no disputing that fact. This bit of news is certainly not helping my massive headache. I plop on the couch in my office just as Gemma and Lana storm in talking a mile a minute. The addition of their noise is making my head feel as if it is going to split in half.

"STOP!!" I yell out. Lana and Gemma both stop and stare at me. "My head is pounding and you two are not helping the situation." I sit up straighter and sigh. "Need I remind you both that your forced trip to the club ended with me getting drunk off my ass. Now, today, I pay the consequences." Lana sits in the arm chair across from me and Gemma takes a seat on the couch.

"Let's look at this logically," Lana starts. "Justin, is it?" She takes a breath waiting for any correction and when none comes, she continues. "Justin started at the company last week. He is human and your mate. That being said, your HUMAN mate was able to knock a vampire out and successfully escape. Did I miss anything?" No one responds and we all sit and let the information sink in.

"Even if my nose was wrong, yours can't be Janessa. You are an Alpha and there is no way you wouldn't be able to sniff out a supernatural," Gemma turns to me and slightly nods.

"No one's nose is wrong. He is a human. I'm just not sure how he was able to do what we saw him do." I look at Lana. "Get Markus and Tobey in here please, I have a job for them." I get to my desk and print out some needed information. Just as I finish, there is a knock on my door. "Come in." Tobey and Markus walk in and settle in the chairs in front of my desk. They are two of my top warriors and I trust them with my life. "I have a job for you two," I state handing them the papers I printed out. The men look over the information and wait for more instruction. "I want you two to tail this man. He works at my company and I have provided his address. I need to know any and all information about him. Stay out of sight and only report, do not interfere. Any questions?" Neither man made a sound. I nod for them to go and they leave the office.

"Care to explain?"

"It's simple, Lana. Clearly there is something about Justin that we are not aware of and I want to know what it is. He will be tailed and I will learn what I need to know from that." Lana simply nods in response. Gemma looks bothered, but she says nothing. "By the way, how has surveillance on my mother been going?"

"Well, she has been at the packhouse and the surrounding area. No trips out and no visitors. I'm not sure if there will be anything to find out." I'm not surprised by this report, I actually expected it.

"Let's call Leon. We need to keep track of her calls and other communication." Lana looks at me with surprise on her face.

"Are you sure? Is that necessary?" I hunch my shoulders.

"Alpha Kent called me at the office Monday and offered to help me with our money issue. He knew all about it and how much money was missing. Something about that doesn't sit well with me and this way I can eliminate suspects." Lana nods and leaves to make the necessary calls.

"You don't really think your mother would do that to you, right?" I sit in my chair and sigh.

"I honestly don't know Gemma. I'm starting to think my mother is capable of things I have never dreamed of."
