Chapter 52

Hunter sighs and tangles his dark hair. Hunter, with his head down, waits for my response.

""Sad, but coping with it all and missing you." Do you know your release date?"

Alone with the chilling wind and snow, he's inside a cozy wooden cabin with food and a bed.

Hunter breaks his neck, his head swaying. "David didn't say," Hunter says.

Of course, David wouldn't tell Hunter when he'd be freed. I'm not upset or terrified of Hunter, just apprehensive and puzzled. I re-fill my cup to keep my hands occupied.

Hunter tells me everything just after I finish my tea and put the cup on the kitchen table, leaving me stunned.

"I never meant to attack or annoy you, Susan. The thought of lowering training hours and reconciling with our neighboring pack became too much for me. But the pack is crumbling and reforms are required. But that's not enough. The whole pack has to start again, but that's impossible in this circumstance."

. "But it doesn't excuse your actions."
