1 Simple Beginnings

"Alright children settle down now." The elderly woman with long grey hair tied up into a neat bun on the top of her head, frizzy though as long strands would bounce around with every stride she took.

This would be her first class of the year and she had never seen this batch of children before so it was important to get through a round of introductions.

As the teacher went around the class calling on student to stand up and give their introductions, our young hero, Randal took in a deep breathe and nervously waited his turn.

The boy before him stood up and said as his introduction, "My name is Thoth and my father is the owner of the library. I want to be a great merchant like he was."

Randal stood up and faced the class with all eyes now on him as his heart palpitated faster in nervousness. "My name is Randal, and I want to understand Spirit and become a Spirit Master." He said just barely loud enough for the furthest person to hear.

Without skipping a beat the teacher continued asking students to introduce themselves.

"With that out of the way, let's get down to business, our regular classes will be 3 hours Long with 1 hour at the end for physical training. The first thing we'll be going through will be to recap some of our history. Who can tell me who is the most powerful in the capital?" The teacher asked the class.

The teacher glanced over to a red headed girl who stood up and said, "It must be the king, he has lots of money and guards and the army, he must be very powerful."

"While that is very true, does anyone have any other answers?" She asked again glancing around the room until Thoth raised his hand.

"Is it the Stami?" He asked after taking some time to think. "The Stami is able to control the people when he translates the words of gods for us."

"Very good answer Thoth but actually," she said with a pause. "the most powerful man in the capital is the guild master." She said with a hint of a blush appearing on her cheeks making them rosy.

The guild master of Memphis was a legendary figure to most of the older generation, he and a pantheon of heroes defended the city from Mt. Ante, a volcano who gained sentient spirit after a cult of worshippers from a neighbouring capital tried to use it to flood Memphis with lava and ash.
