A Classic Class About Classes

"Essentially, every being in existence is born with life force. There are 4 common classes of beings that wield life force offensively through special abilities.

The first class is known as Sacred Wielder. Sacred Wielders amplify the life force from within themselves via their faith or beliefs. This can be done regularly by meditation, prayer or something similar. The advantage is that this class requires the least amount of time to build aura, and the method to getting stronger is very simplistic: you just maintain your devotion. Unfortunately, if you start doubting your faith or beliefs mid-combat... your abilities might fail to activate.

The second class is called Daemon Artisan. These ability users harvest and wield the negativity of existence. Usually those who specialize in this class tend to focus on a particular emotion or 'sinful' act. These users are driven to regularly engage in the source or have somebody else doing so nearby. This is done to recover energy and improve strength. If not done regularly, your mind can become unstable from the temptation that the demonic arts bring. You can even permanently lose your life force. A reason to stick with just one source is that you risk getting harmed by unfamiliar or incompatible negativity and cripple yourself. A good example is a lust user losing all of their powers over grieving a lover. Daemon Artisans excel at using abilities that affect the mind and soul, but they do take noticeably longer to cast.

The third class is conceptually more familiar, but I wouldn't recommend it. The ability users refer to themselves as Linkers, but the class's official name is Boosted Bondage. By directly binding your mind and soul to others, you can share and enhance everything, from life force to regular abilities, or unique abilities like your {Narration}. They can even share memories, for that matter, meaning only one person in the bond needs to be well-trained for everyone to immensely benefit. The downside is that you cannot learn any new abilities by yourself while being part of a bond. You would have to separate from the bond to do this. Leveling up, on the other hand, can easily be done by just adding a new member to the bond. The more intimacy people have with each other in the bond, the greater the boost everyone within it receives. It's some gross perversion of 'the power of love or friendship,' if you ask me. Naturally, if you add somebody incompatible with other members of the bond, or if a member of the bond suffers a fatal injury, it is likely to cause severe consequences to all other members.

The last of the common types is the Lunatic Arcs, which might as well be named Public Menace. We... we don't talk about this class in public because they gain power off of the hatred and ire of others. The fastest way for one to build up power and gain new abilities is to quickly make enemies of everyone they possibly can. From there, one would manipulate or annoy them all to death. Unlike the other common classes, Lunatic Arcs can infinitely increase their maximum life force capacity and grasp new abilities just by acting as scum. These abilities tend to be on the weaker side, but they are definitely numerous. Daemon Artisans and Lunatic Arcs may seem similar, but the largest difference is that Lunatic Arcs are purely about self benefit, and do not need to harvest essence directly or regularly. Any questions so far?" Layla asked.

Segato quickly shook his head and was trying his best to make notes of what Layla just said. He could tell she truly didn't want to repeat herself.

"Then there are 5 irregular classes.

The Deities, who are self empowering, are the only beings I know that possess divine energy. The faith given to them by their followers is nothing more than a temporary amplifier for strength; most of them won't rely on that except in a serious situation.

There are also the Game Overs, who seem to channel nature itself through their bodies, but are akin to walking calamities. It's unclear where they come from or how they are made, but they are the direct enemies of the Deities, since the Deities' divine energy don't have much effect on them. In addition, Game Overs can outright siphon life force from others in combat to get stronger and weaken their enemies at the same time. They also carry around special equipment called arbiter weapons... weapons designed to 'end fights permanently,' according to one we captured and interrogated many millenia ago.

After that... there are the Clockwork Children. I can assure you their name is not to be taken lightly. They are beings that don't age, grow in power without needing to do anything, and are independent of all other factions. The Deities and Game Overs both work hard to keep neutrality with these beings, primarily out of respect more than fear. They oversee the flow of all timelines, and don't bother intervening directly unless they foresee an outcome that everyone else cannot handle. The only weakness of Clockwork Children is that their bodies tend to be cursed and unable to handle the great power they have. They make up for this weakness in having access to all the common classes' advantages in spades without the same disadvantages. There are extremely high odds you will never fight a Clockwork Child, anyways. Meeting one is that unlikely.

There is also a certain class which may no longer exist that I only know of due to Hooligan mentioning it. He called them Flowing Sparks. From what he said they would be supposedly be responsible for the maintenance of something called the River of Infinity. Based on what he told me, these guys could have been the ones responsible for the creation of universes. Hooligan seems to be tight-lipped about it, but I imagine when he grumbles about buying a universe in older times, it sounds literal.

Lastly, there's what you are very likely to become. Maybe Hubris has mentioned something about it already..." Layla then paused so she could stare at Hubris. He averted his eyes from locking with hers, and she frowned. Segato tilted his head in confusion, but he wasn't going to ask about it now. Layla decided it was more worthwhile to continue elaborating than to wait for Hubris or Segato to interact with one another.

"Those that are a part of this class are referred to as World Devourers. They gain tremendous power for every world they destroy or when they absorb a world's true essence. As for how they coexist as a neutral party with everyone else... a deal was made with their ancestor, the World Destroyer, to devour any universes without a Deity or that posed a threat to other universes. Apparently, it is also possible for World Devourers to tether themselves to a universe without destroying it, but the process is very risky. Those who succeeded gained a power that surpasses Deities and Game Overs alike, but only within that respective universe. As for what sort of powers you could use... anything related to destruction that you can imagine should be possible with solid training and time," Layla lectured. To her surprise, Segato was still rapidly taking down notes the entire time. He briefly nodded for her to continue.

"Every high level ability depends on creating a refined aura. Some examples of this would be learning to create an elemental aura by directly experiencing that element on a regular basis, channeling aura into objects to enchant or refine them directly, or outright creating some sort of enchantment or amplifier to apply to your body. It is possible with enough skill and time to even create objects for long term use outside of combat... although usually the ones who can do this belong to the irregular life force users, or are ugh... Lunatic Arcs. We can figure out your abilities after you decide what way you wish to start channeling life force to create aura. Even then, we will still have to test your aptitude for that type of ability usage. Decide soon. We have a limited amount of time before the Potato Wars registration period closes." Segato thought quietly for a few minutes while looking over his notes, then mischievously grinned.

I think I know what I'm gonna do already... he thought to himself.

Segato turned to Layla, and asked the question, "Is it possible to be a part of multiple classes as an ability user?" Layla and Hubris both blankly looked at Segato at the same time. They then look at each other, and back at him once more.

"Permission to hit this guy?" Layla asked as her eyebrows twitched.

"Permission granted," Hubris calmly responded back. As Segato is having his bones broken in the background, Hubris started considering what Segato asked on a serious level. It might be possible if he had more time, actually. According to the history, the most recent person to have belonged to more than one type of class with no penalties would haven been... Kate Sett. She was a prodigy and it still took her 30 years to pull that off... Layla seems to have only recently learned how to do this, but she hasn't gained enough mastery to overcome the penalties. It seems Segato unintentionally touched a sore subject. Despite that... "... maybe it is worth considering. If it goes wrong, the worst that can happen would be him dying."

"Wait what?" Segato groaned out while Layla had him in a headlock.

"I'm trying to tell this guy that he is asking to fly before he even learned to crawl, and you're actually encouraging him to do it?" Layla grunts, tightening the headlock.

"Segato chose this path. It's difficult to explain, but he's done it before," Hubris mentioned.

""... Huh?"" both Layla and Segato were even further confused.

Hubris sighed, but continued to talk. "So to increase the odds of success, I do have a plan... I prepared something to help with Segato's training that can only be activated within an ally domain. It'll put Segato in hallucination. I got combat data from the strongest individuals in this universe for reference... but you already knew that, didn't you, Layla?" Hubris spoke with a daunting smile.

"If anything, you're lucky you didn't get caught. It seems only Hooligan and I noticed you during the meeting, thankfully enough," Layla replied while she shrugged. Her casual expression turned serious again. "We'll go through with your plan, but if it gets dangerous, I'll forcibly disable my law domain. I'm not going to agree to anything that puts him in harm's way." Hubris nodded, then turned to Segato, who was starting to regret his life decisions.

Once he determined that she wasn't paying attention, Hubris whispered to Segato, "I'll be entering your mind like normal to advise you like always. Your opponents for this training exercise will be that which you have yet to fight but also fought before. Do not try to talk with them, as they are only going to be shadows of combat. Let's get started, then." Everything begun to dissipate from Segato's point of view, but to Layla and Hubris, he only looked peacefully asleep.
