Alicaine Chronicles: Roselyn Knight

*Excerpt*: “Submit.” A soothing, male voice crooned inside the girl’s mind. Ice wrapped around her legs and reached up along her body. With every passing second, her chance of victory slipped further and further from her grasp. “Just relax.” The voice said soothingly. Listening to it was dangerous to the girl. The too familiar voice spoke in time to her heartbeat in phrases she’d heard it say many times before. A shadow passed over her half-frozen body. Looking up, the girl saw the shadowed body of a dragon passing under the sun above her. The dragon’s head was lowered and the she could feel its piercing, demanding gaze on her skin. “You’ve done extremely well but you don’t have to fight so hard.” The voice said. The girl’s eyelids fluttered. She was so cold. Her breathing had slowed considerably as the ice was now at her waist. White mist formed as she exhaled. Fuzzily, she knew she was losing. She’d tried everything, but nothing she could do, none of her magic, could pierce those armor like scale. The voice was wrong. Everything was at stake for her, her heart, her freedom, her life, but she was once again powerless. The dragon swooped low over her head. It’s light blue scale’s glittered beautifully in the afternoon sun. The ice had reached the girl’s chest now. Each breath she drew was laborious and took a herculean effort. “It will be over soon.” The voice crooned softly, “Just rest.” The girl foggily knew that if she caved and relaxed the fight would be over. She wanted to fight; she needed to win, but she was so tired. The dragon landed in front of her. She blinked groggily at it trying to bring her eyes into focus. The dragon watched her expectantly as its ice climbed higher still on the girl’s body. The girl could feel her pulse slowing as she tried to shake her head clear again. She couldn’t the ice had reached her chin. ‘Why?’ she thought fuzzily, ‘how can it end like this?’ She worked so hard, but it hadn’t mattered. Despair choked her as her eyelids drooped and then closed. The ice covered her head as the girl fell into darkness. *** Release rate will be a min of 3 chapters per week! Week 5

Seeing that her friends had left, she went to Momo and Aerie's room in the girl's dorm building, they were both waiting for her. They had already changed and showered. Momo sat in the chair at her desk and Aerie was sitting on her bed with her chin propped up on her knees. Ro dropped her bag by the door and kicked off her shoes.

"Was it bad?" Momo asked hesitantly.

"What did he say?" Aerie asked almost at the same time. Ro smiled wryly. And started pulling clean clothes out of her bag. After practice they always came back here and showered before going to dinner.

"Yes, it was bad. He called me abysmal. And I am apparently getting a combat tutor starting Monday." Having what she needed now, Ro headed into the bathroom to shower. Removing her glasses, she leaned against the sink counter and looked at her fuzzy reflection in the mirror. Gone were the wide set bug eyes. Gone was the thin-lipped too wide mouth and gone was the bulbous nose.

Replacing them were brilliant green eyes positioned normally for her face, a cute, average sized, slightly upturned nose, and a rose-bud mouth. Framing her face was a thick, wavy cascade of golden blond hair that fell down her back to her shoulder blades. Her lumpy shapeless body had morphed into the hourglass of a slightly overweight woman.

She sighed and rested her forehead against the cool glass of the mirror. Sometimes she wished she didn't hide her beauty, but she hated the attention that came from it. She and Momo were very similar in that way.

"Did he say who it would be?" Aerie's voice drifted through the open door. Ro turned and looked at them.

"No but Alexi offered, in a very creepy way," She shivered remembering the threat in his words. "and Sarge told him that they school had already chosen someone. I'll meet this person Monday. That's all I know." Momo and Aerie both frowned in thought. Then Aerie looked at Ro with a huge grin.

"That anti-glamour magic is so elemental!" she said "By the way did your ginormous boobs get bigger? Let me grab them!" Aerie lunged at Ro hands outstretched. Ro turned and with surprising agility, shut the door in her face. "No fair!" Aerie called through the door. Ro laughed despite her foul mood and gazed at her breasts in the mirror. They really were too big. She stripped and stepped into the shower.

When she was done, she and her two friends set about practicing magic. They decided to review shadow magic since they were starting that subject again next week.

Until their third year the class would rotate which magic they would work on weekly. Shadow magic was Ro's best subject. She had a knack for it. Momo and Aerie didn't, so Ro spent most of her time helping the others with the exercise of moving the shadow across the room. They spent an hour at it. By the end Momo could get hers about three-quarters of the way across and Aerie's was halfway. Then they went to dinner and split up for the night.

Week 6:

The weekend went too quick and Monday began again with meditation led by Professor Kyzul Arzandia, who was per usual late. Ro never knew what to make of Professor Arzandia.

"I am sorry for my tardy arrival. I'll get the hang of this eventually." His eyes swept across the room and when they met Ro's, he genuinely smiled. At least that's the way it seemed to her.

Her heart pounded in her chest as her face heated in embarrassment at such thoughts. She looked down.

When she looked up again, she met his eyes once more and saw amusement in them. He looked away so quickly she couldn't be sure it happened. Ro shook her head and tried to pay attention to what he was saying. He was writing on the board and talking about what kind of meditation they'd be doing today.

"And Ro," She flinched in her chair. "I want to see you after class." He paused waiting for an answer.

"Y-yes." She mumbled. He was looking at her from the corner of his eye and smiling like he was laughing at her.

Ro felt her pulse quicken and a blush spread across her cheeks as she looked down again. Her palms were sweaty, so she rubbed them on her pants.

She concentrated on being a calm lake, after a minute or two she calmed down. It was so inconvenient to have a crush on her teacher because no matter how attractive he was, it was still inappropriate.

Ro came back to class in time to hear Kyzul say, "Everybody partnered up?"

Ro looked frantically at Momo and Aerie.

"Sorry girl, you were out of it." Aerie said. Ro blushed again, and Aerie laughed, "Ro doesn't have a partner."

Kyzul raised his eyebrows, "Who's the other one?"

Alexi raised his hand and glanced at Ro.

"Me." He stated, "I need a partner."

Kyzul's eyes narrowed slightly, "Okay, then I guess you two are partners. Spread out and sit facing your partner." He ordered.

Ro stood up and swallowed hard.

"Sorry again." Momo said quietly

"It'll be fine. He's nice at least." Ro said with forced cheerfulness. Aerie looked over at Alexi and frowned.

"He's glaring at you."

"Yeah, I know." Ro said.
