Chapter 9: Training Arc

(Mael's POV)

"Mael, what does harem means?"

I was walking with Jeanne towards the church when little Jeanne asked me such a question in a cold tone.

"Harem? Where did you hear such a word?" I said and was about to shrug the topic until my gaze met her cold eyes.

"Mael, just answer it." She smiled and didn't budge from the harem part.

"Well…" I then explained the meaning of harem briefly since I was just weak against Jeanne and couldn't lie to her.

"Mael… am I not enough for you…?" She asked with tears forming in her eyes.

"Of course you are everything for me. It's just… I was a little curious you know…." I scratched my hair since it was pretty embarrassing talking about a harem and comforting a 13 years old child.

Then turning 180 degrees, she smiled and again hugged my arm. "Hehe, I know my Mael will never betray me~!"

I smiled and patted her head.

Yes! When you have a wife this cute so who wants other women for more trouble?

(AN: Oh dear… Dear MC, this is DxD world… so… yeah….)

Anyway, we both entered the church and found Eliza waiting for us.

She agreed to teach me full counter along with some basic swords play. Jeanne also nagged about learning to use a sword but neither do I or Eliza agreed since Jeanne was a little airhead when it comes to her studies. We both knew that the moment she touches a sword, she will ignore all her studies giving how much of an outgoing person she was.

So I would learn full counter while Jeanne would practice writing.

Eliza first gave homework to Jeanne in a small room before coming to the chamber to teach me fighting skills.

"Mael, let's get started." She spoke getting my attention.

"First of all, let me tell you something first.

She then began telling me rules and restrictions regarding the full counter.

First, she set some rules. She strictly forbade me not to show this move until I was in a very difficult position. I couldn't also show others this move no matter foe or ally.

Then she started telling me the all about full counter.

There are two variations of Full Counter. The first is to revert physical attacks while the other is for magic attacks.

I asked if I could also learn magic but she denied it since God didn't like humans using magic as it would lift humans to diverted from relying on physical laws making the civilization unstable.

There are also some drawbacks. The user cannot initiate any attacks themselves, and they would not be able to reflect attacks if the opponent does not allow them to read the nature and timing of their attacks.

And since it is physical, I cant reflect magical attacks.

It may sound like a weak move with many drawbacks but it was a keen way to turn the tables on your enemies.

"Now come here." She asked me to stand near her. She then put her hand on my head and then-

!!!

Suddenly, I received a headache as many pieces of information directly entered my brain.

"Arg!" I grunted while holding my head then looked at her when I realized what she did.

"I am sorry but it is the only way to make you understand the mechanism of this move or it will take a decade for you to even understand the basics." She apologized and explained.

That right, I was just taught this move like that. She just poured the basic mechanism of the full counter into my head directly.

And from the gist of it, I instantly realized what she said. I would definitely take a decade to even come close to learn the basic understanding of such a move let alone master it and using it in the battle.

She waited for me to recover for few minutes before taking her position and raising the wooden sword in her hand.

"Mael, get up and move."

"Yes." I nodded and leaped forward.

And so I began to learn that bizarre martial art or reflective power called full counter from an angel named Eliza.

Full counter. It has various parts in order to understand. The first part is to read the moments of your opponent.

This is where my Emperor Eyes first comes into action.

Even though I could predict the future of my own action, it was entirely different gameplay when it comes to predicting another human being as later is infamous for being unpredictable.

But in a fairly short time, I was also able to predict the moments of regular humans. I did that by regularly using my Emperor Eye in my daily life predicting the future of people around me.

Then it comes to reflecting an aspect of Full Counter. It was an entirely supernatural phenomenon where you move physically without considering the physical laws at all.

Even after having learned directly, I was still having a hard time understanding the depth of such.

How could you defy physics if you move physically?

For the time being, I decided not to go in-depth and focus on learning.

I also learned some basic martial arts essential to enter the knight order since aside from full counter, Eliza herself admitted that she was not a combat-type fairy.

About Eliza, I didn't know why but I always felt a kind of connection with her. Not in a romantic way but more like a family.

She was kind and easygoing. She had every trait of a kind person but her kindness ends when it comes to teaching.

She was very strict as a teacher. She never brought Jeanne's excuses to run from studies and always come with a different type of tactic in order to make me firm in full counter.

For the human world, she was some other church nun with no attractiveness but for us, she was a beautiful angel and teacher.

As such 2 years had passed and I turned 15.
