It looked to be about 8:00 in the morning. There were few clouds in the sky, so the sun came up with a golden glow that enveloped the entire landscape. The cool wind blew a scent of maple and cinnamon that tingled my nose. I took a few deep breathes, inhaling the scent, enjoying the amazing scent that nature gifted me.

I began walking.

I found someone. I met him in the middle of the desolate road. His hair was a short pitch black and his eyes sparkled blue like the ocean. The clothes he wore were unique. Black long sleeve shirt with white paint splattered on it. The sleeves looked a little ripped. His shorts, which were also ripped, went down to his knees. His lips were painted black with lipstick and both of his ear lobes were pierced with small piercings.

Honestly, the only normal thing about his attire were his ear piercings.

I almost mistook him for a girl.

"Hello." I said.

He turned his attention towards me, his eyes seemed to sparkle a little brighter. Probably because of the tears that ran down his face.

"Why are you crying?" I asked.

He didn't respond. Instead, he pointed to both his ears.

"Piercings?" I asked.

He shook his head. Then, he placed both of his hands on his ears and covered them, as if trying to block the sound.

"You can't hear me?" I asked.

He nodded.

"Why?"

He looked at the journal that I was carrying in my arms and walked closer to me, pointing at it. I walked closer until I was standing face-to-face with him, and handed him the book.

He took the pen that was attached to the journal and started writing. This is what he wrote:

"I'm deaf."

"Is that why you're here?" I asked him.

He nodded, then he continued writing.

"I'm scared :("

He dropped my journal and started crying again.

I didn't know how to cheer him up, so I tried giving him my complete attention. I noticed his nails were painted black, so I tried complimented him.

"You're nails," I said, grabbing both his hands and pointing at them. "You're nails look really cool."

I've always admired people fashion choices at school. Sometimes, I was surprised by how bold they were with the stuff that they wore.

He looked up at me and then his nails. He put two and two together and let out a soft chuckle, the first noise that I ever heard leave his mouth.

He picked my journal back up and wrote some more.

"Thank you ;)"

He smile was gentle and warm, even with his lips painted black.

"When's the end of the world?" I asked him.

His smile went from gentle to somber as he wrote again in my journal.

"Two days"

"Oh, that sucks," I said with a sarcastic smile. I've still got about two weeksleft."

"Pain," he wrote. "My name is Cole. Yours?"

"It's Alex." I said.

"Nice to meet you Alex! Hey, I've still got two day left and I'm kinda starting to like you, so how about we hang out until then?"

His smile went back to being gentle again. I couldn't help but smile back at him.

That was the first time that someone had ever said that they liked me.
