Chapter 2

Erin's POV

My mind wondered out of the class as Mr Daniels, our geography teacher went on and on about the different types of geography. Beside me , Maddox tapped away on his phone. I wonder why he always passed this class since he hardly ever paid attention.

I studied his messy mop of raven hair that reached below his ears with a few strands falling on his forehead, his long lashes could make any girl jealous and his sharp jaw added to his appeal. He had really matured from that rosy cheeked 11 year old to this teenager that looked like he stepped off the set of a shoot. His Greek and Italian heritage gave him a beautifully tanned complexion. It wasn't really a surprise that most of the girls threw themselves at him. I didn't blame them though, even though I had been friends with him for so long and should have gotten used to his looks by now , that wasn't the case. Maddox wasn't someone whose looks you could get used to. He was really tall for an 18 year old., 6ft3 and was lean with muscles in the right places since he was a basketball and football player for our school. He was really the total package; rich ,intelligent and handsome.

I think it was safe to say that a few if his admirers hated the sight of me . They always thought that Maddox paid too much attention to me. Even though it was true and it irritated me at times, I couldn't really complain because I was just as clingy as Maddox was.

Almost as if he felt me looking at him., he turned with a perfectly arched eyebrow. I shook my head and he went back to his game . That was how it was between us. It always felt as if we could sometimes feel each other. He had always been a good friend and sometimes when I thought of all the things I had hidden from him and was still hiding , I got this sharp pain in my chest. But I had to do it .For everyone's safety and peace of mind. I had to guard my secrets.

Behind us, The boys sat. Cole and Jake. The other two boys I had grown to love like my own brothers since sixth grade when they saved me from drowning in the school's pool during P.E .Nicole had 'accidentally' as she had claimed, shoved me into the pool when I wasn't looking. Caught by surprise, I was too in shock to do anything. Maddox hadn't been around. They were his best friends but I had been wary of them up until that incident. They saved me and I owed my life to them. They were really amazing and had helped me a lot. When Delia my Aunt would starve me for days and steal my savings leaving with nothing, they'd sneaked take out and my favourite snacks into my room. They also threw a small birthday party for me very year with Maddox.

Jake, the player, with his blond hair and green eyes, was a huge to flirt. Cole wasn't reserved either . He had brown hair and pretty hazel eyes. It wasn't really surprised that I was hated. I mean I meaan i managed to be friends with three of the guys that were rich and considered the hottest here in our school. But i didn't care anyway and neither did Alley. She was the first and only female who could actually. The others were either too fake and wanted to be friends with me just because of the boys or just hated my guts. She was a cute and blunt blonde haired girl with grey eyes. Apparently, she had a not so little crush on Cole. She had denied it many times before but she didn't know I always caught the looks she sent his way or how she blushed whether he flirted with her . It's funny how she couldn't tell that he felt the same about her Maddox ,Jake and I knew , but we decided to let them figure it out on their own besides I enjoyed the flirting show they put on everytime.

"Hey Rin" Maddox whispered in my ear. Up until a year ago, his closeness wouldn't have bothered me because things like this were normal for us but something happened that planted a thought that refused to leave my mind till I pushed it to the farthest corner of my mind.

It was Valentine's day and as usual, our school decided to organise a dinner party for the students. Like we normally did, Maddox and I went together . A few minutes after we had entered and settled in our seats, someone from the students council approached us and asked if we could pose for the couple shoot for the school's website . We declined naturally because we were not a couple but the girl said something that got me thinking and made the rest of that night and a couple days after really awkward and weird b but we eventually got over it

FLASHBACK

"Hi, I'm Sarah from the students council. You two are the cutest couple here tonight. I was wondering if you could pose in our shoot for the school website as the cutest couple of the night ?" The petite strawberry blonde asked.

"Oh you've got it all wrong Sarah , we are not a couple " I answered " We're best friends "

" Really ? ,with the way you both stare at each other when the other is not looking ,I thought you were a couple. Oh sorry for the trouble then . Have a nice evening ". With that she walked away. But her words raised many questions in my mind. How did we look at each other that was so different?

We always looked at each other when the other wasn't looking . Wasn't that normal ?

What was in our stares that made her think that we were a couple ?

Things were awkward between us or a few days after that but they went back to normal and I pushed that absurd thought at the back of my mind.

I didn't like Maddox that way and he certainly didn't like me that way right ?

Back to the present Maddox nudged my shoulder a little. I immediately remembered that Maddox was taking to me.

" You zoned out. Is everything okay ? "

I nodded.

"Good. Mom said to come home today" .

"I don't know....."

"C'mon ,she insisted "

"Fine"" I sighed in defeat. I couldn't refuse his mom even if I tried. She was one of the nicest persons I'd ever met. We had just one lesson left for school to end and I couldn't wait. Aside from the fact that his mom was an amazing cook, she could make some really delicious deserts and always sent me home with a basket of her sweet treats whenever I went over.
