1 1- Starting A New Chapter

As I headed downstairs to get breakfast, I noticed my dad wasn't watching the news like normal. I assumed he was in his workshop early though he usually goes down after lunch.

"Hey kiddo," Tony said he he walked up the stairs. I already got a bowl of cereal and toast before he came up.

"Hi dad, why were you working in the shop so early?" I asked.

"Couldn't sleep. Pepper and I have a meeting today with the Avengers. I'll be gone for a couple of hours." He replied. I was confused. The Avengers haven't had anything happen recently plus Tony hadn't mentioned missions coming up.

"That's okay, I'm assuming Bruce isn't going to help me with school today?" I said in a concerned voice.

"Nope, he will be at the meeting." He walked back downstairs while I continued to eat my breakfast before getting ready for school.

After a long day, I changed into workout clothes for training with Nat. When I got to the workout room, she wasn't there. I checked the whole tower to find that I was the only one there.

"What is going on?" I asked myself.

"FRIDAY, please locate the tracker on my father's suit." I assumed the meeting just turned into a small mission. I still had this thought in the back of my head that it was something worse. The tracker went to the Avengers Mansion where Fury lived. I instantly felt better.

A couple of hours went by, Tony and Pepper finally got home. They both called for me to come to the living room. I ran out to see what they needed. I secretly hoped it was a mission I could attend.

"What's up? Why were you guys gone for so long?" I asked. They seemed hesitant to answer.

"Oh, we were talking about adding a recruit to the team along with a mission we might need to attend tomorrow," Tony replied.

"Someone is getting added to the team? Who is it?" I rambled excitedly.

"Woah calm down, he isn't for sure getting added to the team. He needs more training before he can attend any missions." Pepper said to both Tony and me.

"Nat can train him. I can too." I couldn't believe I was going to meet someone new. It's been so long since there was a new member.

"That's fine. Training starts tomorrow." Tony seemed annoyed that I was making this a big deal. I didn't care.

My alarm went off for me to get out of bed then it hit me. I wanted to go to public school. I sprinted to my dad's workshop to ask him if I could transfer. Before I could say something, I knew he was in a bad mood.

"Do you need something from me?" He said harshly.

"Um, yeah. I was wondering if I could try public school? Before you say no, you should consider that I've been in homeschool my whole life and need some social skills. I'll even tell people my last name is Smith or Anderson. Those are pretty common last names." I was talking so fast I couldn't tell if he understood what I was trying to say.

"I'll take it into consideration," Tony was trying to focus on his new prototype but listened to my every word.

"Thank you!" I ran back upstairs to get ready for training.

My emotions were spiraling. I couldn't help but wonder if he was going to allow me to go to public school. I began searching for different schools for smarter teens to make him feel better about his decision. I ended up finding the perfect school. It had a high education rate along with it being nearby.

"Dad?" I called from the kitchen.

"Come downstairs!" He yelled back. I went downstairs to find him underneath his desk searching for something.

"Do you need help with anything?" I asked. I wasn't sure if he was going insane or he lost something. There wasn't anything on the floor.

"I lost my microchip to go in my suit. It fell off the table. It's very small. If you see it, let me know. Anyways, what did you need?" Tony asked after getting up off the ground.

"I was doing some research... I found this school. It's called 'Midtown School of Science and Technology,' it has a high education rate. It'll probably teach me the same things I would learn with Bruce." I tried to sound like I was desperate to convince him to let me transfer.

"To go to that school, you have to already be in the system at the beginning of the year," he didn't sound amused.

"Please call them or something? I think this is the one!" I made a sad face. It gets him every time.

"I'll look into it," Tony said in an annoying voice.

"Yes! Thank you!" I was so excited. I think he will let me go.
