59 Ferals and Heroes

It was a week after that Aegis finally could leave the facility that was now full again in his hands. The mutants, the ferals as SPCS soldiers started to call them, were either burned down or fully bound and stored into plexiglass boxes that are capable enough to not break under the ferals onslaught, as it was seen that even if ferals were able to get through steel doors, they weren't able to get through a thick amount of plexiglass enchanted by hard-light dust.

It was because the plexiglass is more flexible and absolutely smooth, so when the ferals tried to break them, they were just able to flex them.

Still, it was hard work as Aegis needed to invent this world's flamethrower equivalent, as even if Remant had fire weapons, but they didn't have flamethrowers that could be utilized in large-scale purges.

So Aegis just made a flamethrower with fire dust as fuel and watched how his soldiers cleaned out any kind of biological remnants that weren't designed for study.

Aegis, after looking through records of facility cameras, knew that the virus somehow infected the head of facility Robert, Aegis didn't know how he gets into contact with it, but after he studied the recording, he found out that the reason why nobody knew that head of the facility was infected and that was Robert was never injured, if he had an injury, everybody would see that he was infected as the virus would heal him.

But he was not injured in the spam of his infection and so nobody could see what was happening in his body, it started with the change of moods, but everybody just thought it was because of stress from overwork, but when he was still lucid and knew that something is wrong, he activated quarantine.

The moment Robert activated quarantine, the virus took over as the virus fought for survival as it knew that it would be killed if found out, so it made Robert into a psychopath.

Unfortunately for the virus, once the quarantine is activated, it cannot be deactivated from inside the facility, so Robert already insane done the next best thing he thought of. He destroyed the V.I core and released all subjects from their bindings.

Mayhem happened as researchers and security tried to fight back, but they stood no chance against the ever regenerating monster as they never were trained to fight biological weapons.

Every time they hid in the room and locked the doors, Robert would open them as he was still intelligent enough.

And that was how the facility fell. Aegis was surprised at the virus, it was clear that the virus wasn't intelligent on the human level, but it had a self-preservation instinct that made it more dangerous.

In the week when his people worked on the clearing facility, Aegis was already making plans on how safely research it and make sure that there wouldn't be another such incident.

Aegis came with a simple plan, and every facility member would have a chip in their bodies that would monitor their blood for any kind of unnatural case.

And if found, it would silently alert V.I that would imprison the infected in the current location for further steps.

At the same time, the entire complex would be remade, as Aegis found out that horror films were right, the fucking air vents were a nightmare to clear up as a lot of ferals were hidden there.

Aegis lost five soldiers when they were drawn into the vents by tentacles that either broken their necks or riddled them with holes.

In short, air vents are still needed, but this time Aegis would make them built from glass, so when some fucker hid in them, it would be seen.

Still, Aegis was a little down from the loss of thirty of his doctors and researchers that were in the complex, even the soldiers and service personnel that were lost made Aegis's mood drop.

Aegis liked to think he was a good boss, so he was pained to see his people dying, but he understood that for any reward, sacrifices must be made.

So Aegis could do the last thing for them, and that was taking their families under his protection. The Schnee hidden fortress Everwinter already had a pretty developed town in which families of Everwinter personnel lived.

Aegis would give them a choice to either live there where SDC has no equals or just giving them money for a lifetime.

Aegis looked from a window in his private suite on an airship that transported materials and workers that would remake the entire facility with the mind that if there were another such occurrence, the personnel would be able to fight back.

The doors would be made from the strongest and thickest plexiglass that could withstand even anti-material shots from close proximity, and it was costly, very costly as the glass was enchanted with hard-light dust that made the glass more resilient than even the steel gates.

The travel from the genetic facility was calm as any Grimm in the vicinity was taken care of airships secondary weaponry.

Aegis newer understood why people there or rather councils favored for their forces weaponry that had high fire rate but had pitiful piercing power.

They had the technology to make a hand weapon with a high fire rate and high piercing power, and the cost wouldn't be so different. Alas, that was one of the things Aegis didn't think he wanted to understand.

Aegis soldiers the SPCS were all equipped with weapons that could take or at least severely injure Ursa with one succefull hit.

And that are the hand weapons, as the more heave weapons that were built into the mechanical forces of SPCS and SDC are all powerful enough to one-shot Ursa Major and deathstalker through its thick carapace.

Aegis was about to say something other until his headshot looks to one side of the room.

"Hm, and from when are you there?"

Aegis asked into the air as he waited.

Waited more, and as he was about to speak again, someone showed up as if coming from the air.

/Not funny./

Neo said with a pout as her eyes screamed mischief.

"How long are you there? No better yet, when did you come?"

Aegis asked, surprised at his adopted little sister's move.

/? Maybe I was there with you the entire time?/

Neo asked, and Aegis was surprised at himself as he felt the need to look into his memories.

"You are truly getting better and better."

Aegis said with a shake of his head, but the proud look in his eyes was evident.

And Neo, too, saw the look Aegis had at her surprise.

Neo, even if she liked her family, always felt restricted. She wanted to be free, to do things; well, she still didn't know what things she wanted, but she loved the thrill of killing, of stealing, of provoking goody wannabe guys!

Neo was thankful to her big brother, no more than grateful, she didn't know if what she felt towards Aegis was love, but she was satisfied with her feelings that she harbored to him.

And that made it even worse for her to ask.

"Neo, I know that look."

Aegis said as he stood up and came closer to a diminutive girl with mismatched colors.

"You know that I would do everything to make you all happy, so just ask."

Aegis said, and Neo threw herself at Aegis in a hurry as she buried her face into Aegis's chest.

/I want to go back to Vale, I-/

Neo said and wanted to continue but stopped when Aegis laughed softly.

Neo looked at Aegis with a disapproving and hurtful gaze until Aegis kissed her on the lips, making her surprised, but Neo returned the favor after a while.

"Neo, do you think I would stop you? Vale is just two hours of max speed with our bullhead, no matter when you can sleep at home and then go to Vale, or just one day at home and another at Vale."

Aegis said with a smile as his lips were touching the Neos.

"There isn't any problem with you wanting to be in Vale, but you must come every other day back, at least for an hour as I need my Neo energy recharged, understood?"

Aegis asked with a gentle smile, watching Neo's eyes widen and then just settle into one of something that was rare to see on Neo.

Neo smiled, but it was a smile full of gentleness and love, at least for a while until her face morphed back into that of trademark smirk.

"And I think you will not be alone in Vale."

Aegis said as he remembered his conversation with Weiss.

No matter how much Aegis said to them again and again that he is proud of them, all of them want to prove themselves to him and to themselves that they are worthy of his love.

Harriet, Weiss, and even Pyrrha want to prove their weight, to who? Aegis doesn't know. After all, if the girls wished to play on heroes, Aegis would make them into Paragons of light.

After all, it's the big brother's job to support his little sisters, no?

And like this, Salem and Ozpin would be at least useful for something.

Aegis can already see it.

Brave girls saved Remnant.

/You think about something bad again, right?/

Neo asked as she saw Aegis's face deep in thoughts.

"No?"

Aegis tilde his head, and Neo just snorted.

/Stop thinking and snuggle me!/

Neo said as she hopped on Aegis, who fallen on the chair, and laughed as he started kissing Neo, who returned her affection in kind.

Aegis was all right with them wanting to be in Vale, and Aegis had little idea why Weiss wanted to be in Vale and would be pitying Ozpin if he did care about him.

Harriet probably wants to go because of shit and giggles.

And Pyrrha truly wants to be huntsmen and help others.

Aegis is alright; after all, he had money, and with money, he can train enough loyal agents that would die for his little sister in that city.
