Chapter 4: Doing Quests 3

Me and Jayden are in the guild just ate and talked to random people. We waited until night to continue our quest of hunting wolves, I sold the 4 boar's carcasses to the butcher's.

We earned 25 gold coins from the 3 carcasses total of 75, we sold the big boar at the price of 60 so we earned 120, we hid the remaining boar carcass somewhere near the entrance of the forest.

Now the total earning today, 120 gold coins from the herb quest, 350 Gold coins from the wild boars quest, 120 gold coins from selling the 4 boar's carcasses, total will be 590 gold coins.

If we finished the wolf quest which has the reward of 600 gold coins, that means we earned a total of 1,190 gold coins in one day, 595 gold coins if me and Jayden both split it.

Wow, it is easy to get rich here, we both went back to the East Forest when we realized it is now night time. I picked up the hidden dead boar and went inside the forest.

Jayden held the lamp to light our way, we didn't go deeper, the quest giver said the wolves aren't found that deep in the forest, most of the wolves are but some of the wolves live near the forest entrance.

I lay the boar down in a tiny opening where the moonlight shone while Jayden placed 2 bear traps around the boar and used dried leaves to cover it, it is a good thing that the bear traps are free if you are a new buyer in the shop we bought the bear traps from.

We ran to a tree where we planned to stay and wait for the arrival of the wolves, I helped Jayden climb the tree so he could scout from there while I stayed below him.

Jayden killed the fire of the lamp so our cover will not be noticed, we can only see our environment with only the light of the moon.

We both waited,waited and waited. I can smell the boar's rotting body from here, I just rested my myself on the tree to relax my body, it is very quiet.

*Crackle*

We heard dried leaves being stepped on to my left, I looked at my left to see it but the trees blocked the moonlight, I can only see total darkness to my left and to my right, only the boar's carcass where the moonlight shone.

Both of us waited to reveal itself....it is a wolf, a big one, we still waited for the other three to come...three wolves revealed themselves from the darkness.

The 4 of them began eating the corpse, none of them even stepped on the 2 bear traps, not sure if it's a dud. I could hear the sound of stretching of a string from Jayden, he's taking aim with his bow...

*Swoosh*

*Psk*

Jayden aimed with his bow and shot one of the wolves, it was a hit, the wolf cried out of pain and all of them were alerted.

*Snap**snap*

The 2 bear traps are triggered when they back off, 2 wolves are caught, 1 is healthy and the other is who got shot by the arrow. The 2 wolves cried and the other 2 were confused.

I can hear again a string stretch from Jayden, he shot the vital part of the one who got shot before and shot the other one to end their suffering.

2 already left, I didn't know this was easy and all I think it's hard because I thought we were just going to fight them only with our weapons but didn't think about traps, it made the hunting easier.

"I'll take one and you'll take the other one" Jayden said to me and jumped down from the tree

We approached the remaining wolves, they backed off as we got closer to them. They went backwards until they went into the darkness. Sh*t, the area we put the boar was not wide and clear enough, they are using darkness where the trees block the moonlight.

Me and Jayden went closer to each other back to back waiting for our wolves to come out.

*Snaaarl*

We can hear them snarling and growling, idiotic wolf, talk about echolocation brother. Suddenly the wolf jumped at me from the darkness, I punched the wolf in the face, I looked behind, Jayden is circling with his wolf.

I faced my wolf, I kept on swinging my sword at the wolf, he kept on back off as I was going forward to him. I grew tired after the swinging, why did I even that, I know it can make me tired, what the skill issue I'm doing.

The wolf noticed that I was tired, the wolf jumped at me. It pinned me on the ground, I raised my arm to make the wolf bite my armor, it swayed around while it bit it.

I punched the wolf on the face, he let go of my arm to run away but I grabbed its skin with my other hand so that it won't escape. It bit my arm but I'm fully armored so, I stood up while grabbing the skin of the wolf, it tried different ways to escape my grasp.

I threw and pushed the wolf to the ground, I pinned the wolf down with my feet on the neck. The wolf tried to bite my feet, I raised my sword. Sh*t, this is animal cruelty, but it is for the good of the innocent villagers. I have one problem, I want to achieve a one shot to the wolf but I don't know where it's heart is.

The wolf bit my feet while I'm on top making a decision and finding where the heart is, the heart is one of the important organs so it should be in the rib cage to protect it, but still what place?

I used my sword to the rib cage to guide me where the bumps are and where there are no bumps. Maybe the heart is at the top of the rib cage? I use my sword to guide me at the top of the wolf rib cage and find a place with no bumps of its rib.

The wolf kept on moving and biting my feet while searching, I found a place with no bumps, okay this is it. I raised my sword and was ready to penetrate it.

*Schlck*

I stabbed the wolf's top rib cage, the wolf cried out of pain and wiggled out of pain. Did I stab the heart? I waited for the wolf to see if it would die instantly, it weakened and stopped, a few seconds it closed its eyes and breathed slower and slower and slower until it stopped. Ain't no way I did that in one try.

I sighed of relief....wait, Jayden? I looked behind, the fight is still not over yet, the wolf is on top of Jayden. Jayden is swaying his head so that the wolf will not bite him and also Jayden is pushing the wolf's head. I ran and kicked the wolf off him, I could see stab wounds on its throat.

The wolf looked weak, it turned back to run away but Jayden caught its tail and pulled the wolf, Jayden stabbed it on the throat and turned the dagger. The wolf collapsed and.....died.

"*Pant* *pant* I can't believe we did that, even if we are still a novice and did only 4 quests but we even still manage to finish a journeyman's quest" Jayden said with pride

Of course, who wouldn't be proud if he or she just accomplished something harder even tho they are below or weak, I smiled. The quest giver said we'll just bring her the wolves pelts.

Jayden took all of the wolves pelts with his dagger while I waited. I carried the undressed wolves to the butcher and sold it.

Oooohhh, we managed to sell it for 35 gold coins per wolf. That will be a total of 140 gold coins, if we add it to all of the quest rewards, 1,190 plus 140 equals to 1,330 gold coins, 665 gold coins if we split it but still not enough to buy me a shield, it costed 1,000 gold coins for a good shield but for Jayden, he can buy a upgraded bow for just 500 gold coins.

We went to the guild and gave the quest giver the wolf pelts and she inspected it.

"Thank you for your hard work and service, here is your reward and I hope that the both of you will come again to help the people in need and the whole village" the lady said

We are about to sit down and eat.

"Oh right, here are the apprentice guild card rank for the both of you, congratulations for the both of you for ranking up" she said to me and handed me the cards

I looked at it, it our names and ranks.

"What are the use of these?" I asked

"Those cards are used to determine what guild rank you are now. You can use it to other villages for an example, you went for an adventure and stumbled upon a village, you should show them your card so that they will know what quest they will give you, some guilds can't just give you rank mission that is higher than your rank but I just gave you the apprentice rank quest because I have faith for the both of you" she replied

Other villages huh? I thanked her and went to the table where Jayden went, I gave Jayden his rank card. We ate at the guild and said goodbye to the quest giver, we went to our inns and drifted to sleep....I dreamed the whole night about buying and flexing my new shield.
