Marked on the Stone - II

MARKED ON THE STONE

PART II

It was mid-afternoon when Felix decided to walks back to the forest. It took him for almost an hour and half to reach the place where he and his lover usually stays.

He looked down at the stone that was broken into pieces. He kneeled and picked it up.

He suddenly remembered the conversation between him and Wendy before.

"Why did you write our name on it?" Wendy asked curiously.

Felix smiled while looking at their names carved into the stone, "It will symbolizes our love and my promise to you that I will marry you no matter what"

Wendy innocently tilted her head in confusion, "We don't need such things like this. Because even a stone breaks, does that mean once this stone was shattered our love will be broken as well?"

Felix laughed at her. "Silly, that will never happen. Well, unless one of us did break this stone?" He teased.

"No! No! Why would I do that?" Wendy's eyes went wide as she shook her head in disapproval.

Felix pats her head and smiled, "I know. Just wait for me and I'll marry you soon"

Felix clenched his fist after reminiscing those memories. A drop of water fell on his hands but he didn't mind it.

"I told you to wait for me..." he whispered as more water drops to his hands and to the ground.

He laughed dryly, "Hahaha, I wonder who broke the stone between us first..."

The gap between a noble and a commoner is a whole different world. Especially when someone has a higher status.

Unfortunately for Wendy she was born as a commoner. A huge difference with his former lover, Felix, who is the next Marquiss of Clanient.

At first she didn't really cared about their own status, because all she could think was how they both loved each other. But she was really too naive at that time. She should've known that a guy like Felix was not something like her, a commoner, should be even dreaming of.

In the end, she got hurt and got tired...

She thought that when Felix told her, "Just wait for me and I'll marry you soon" it will come true.

But just one week and 3 days after that promise, she learned that he got engaged with the youngest daughter of Viscount Jouslene.

She waited for almost 2 months for an explanation but she only heard, "I'm sorry, I had to... Don't worry! After I settle with my family, I'll let you enter into our house as my concubine"

Wendy was hurt but she accepted his reasons since he was the next heir of his family after all. He needed a family connections.

So, once again she waited for his promise. She was not hoping for any position after all. She just loves him so much that even if she's a mistress or a concubine, it doesn't matter! Wendy knows that Felix also loves her, she could feel it!

She could feel it... Well, she did... At first.

But now, Wendy does not even know if his promise or his love is even real anymore.

She waited! She waited for 3 years but he still didn't came back to fulfill his promise!

All she received was the news of him receiving a new maid into his house, who was a former noble as well. The rumors that he was also seeing that new maid. The rumors that the new maid was also known as his concubine!

"Can't you even give me some explanation even if it's just an excuse? Can't you even just show yourself up to me once again? So that I know that you still remember me?" Wendy asked in the air as she looked up in the sky.

She smirked. "I guess, you can't..."

She looked at the stone she's holding. "It's time for me to also let go just as you did" she said before throwing the stone to the ground and smashing it into pieces.

Once Wendy was satisfied, she left the place where they first met and first made the promise. She didn't even think of turning back one last time.

---

Felix sighed one last time, "I never wanted things to end this way, my Wendy..."

He picked up a new stone and carved their name once again. "At least, this could serves as the remembrance that we once loved each other" he whispered to himself.

Felix tried to convince that by writing it into the stone once again, he could also eventually rewrite his past mistakes that he did to Wendy.
