Bright Academy

Allen gazed at the large black metal gate that stood tall before him and gazed at the form in his hand.

"Is this the Bright Academy, sir?" He turned and asked the bus driver that drove him there.

"I can never be mistaken, young boy. This is the only Bright Academy in the whole of Cape City, the best school around here. It's filled with wonderful kids, I tell you," the driver, a jovial old man replied.

"Okay, thank you very much, sir," Allen bowed and walked to the large gate. On reaching there, two bulky gatemen appeared right next to the gate and blocked his path.

"May we see your form?" The two of them asked him jointly.

Allen stretched out his arm and showed them the form before they opened the gate and let him pass through. Once inside, he gazed at the bushy road that led to the Academy buildings, he didn't know why but for a reason, he couldn't help but find it odd — He was beginning to have a weird feeling about the school.

After passing through some trees, old houses, and weird places, he arrived at the main place where different buildings were laid. He stood for a while contemplating which building was the Dean's but then he saw a male student and decided to ask help from him.

"Please, can you direct me to the Dean's Office?" He asked the boy who was passing by him.

"You look new, are you a new student?" The boy asked as he stopped and approached him.

"I am, can you show me the way to the Dean's office?" Allen replied.

"Okay, go straight and then take the road by your left. You'll see a building there, that's the Dean's office," the boy replied.

"Okay," Allen replied and walked away. His actions caused the boy to suddenly frown.

"Not even a thank you? Ungrateful!" He muttered angrily and went his way.

Meanwhile, Allen followed the road that the boy had described for him and soon, he saw a building ahead. He walked to it and knocked at the door.

"Come in," a voice came from the inside.

He pushed open the door and went in, a man was sitting at the table while going through some files. Seeing him, the man stopped what he was doing and raised his head to face him.

"Are you a new kid?" He asked Allen.

"Yes, sir."

"Show me your form," the man then said to him.

"Okay," Allen replied and then brought out the form from his bag and handed it to him. "Here, sir "

As the man collected the paper and glanced at it, he abruptly raised his head to stare at Allen. "Are you David's son, the one he talked to me about yesterday?" He asked him.

"I don't know what he talked to you about but I am indeed his son, that is if he is the same person we are talking about," Allen replied.

"What a sharp tongue," the man mumbled. "You are the one because he came here yesterday to talk to me about enrolling you into this school. I wouldn't have agreed to admit you into my school in the middle of the term but David is my friend and Rose is my baby sister, I couldn't say no," he explained to Allen whose face suddenly turned sour. "Your ID will be ready by tomorrow, take your things to the hostel, and I'll send someone to show you to your room."

"Okay, thank you," Allen replied and made to leave but the man called him back.

"By the way, I forgot to ask you. How are they doing? Especially my sister and her child," he asked him.

"Sir, I'm sorry to say this. But they are no more, the whole village was attacked by some monsters called chimera monsters while I was away on an errand. No one survived," Allen replied with a broken heart. Remembering how his family died tragically was enough to shatter him again and again.

"What!" The man slammed his fist on the table and surprisingly, it divided into two. "Those chimera monsters again!" He groaned in pain.

"Sir, I'll let you be for now," Allen said and left the office with his things. Just seeing how broken the man was already, was enough to tear him up and he didn't want that again. Just as he left the office, he heard a scream coming out of the room and this made him sad, he left the place and hurried off to where the hostels were located.

After asking directions from the students around, he finally found the hostel — A somewhat old four-story building. When he got there, he saw someone already waiting for him.

"Hurry up, let me take you to your hostel room," the young man said to him and began to lead the way into a hallway.

They passed through some hallways and then climbed a staircase that led to another hallway, then, they arrived at the door of a room and the young man pushed open the door for him.

"The Dean values you a lot that is why he has given you a whole room to yourself. Or else, you would have been sharing a room with four more boys," the young man said to him.

"I guess I'm lucky then," Allen replied with a shrug.

"Very lucky," the young man agreed while gazing at him. "By the way, my name is Sam. If you need help, don't hesitate to let me know," he added after looking at him for a while.

"Sure, no problem. I'll love to look around the school, if you are free, may I bother you with that?" Allen

"Sure, that's no problem at all... How about you unpack while I wait for you?" The young man asked him.

"Okay," Allen replied and carried his bag inside the room. The room wasn't all that big but it was still somewhat comfortable, there was a small bed with a reading table by the side and a bathroom as well. After unpacking his bag, he came out of the room and left with Sam.

"Let me tell you something, this place is a good school but you must be careful while you stay here. Some students have more authority than the Dean himself so you must avoid them at all costs, wouldn't want to see you get into trouble with them," Sam said as they left the hostel.

"That won't be a problem," Allen simply replied.

"You sound so confident," Sam noted with a smile. For some reason, he liked this new guy.

"Well, I don't know but I'll try to avoid the troubles as you've said," Allen replied and Sam chuckled and didn't say a word again.
