Your POV

I head back to the common room late after an intense session of questioning from Umbridge, she was very persistent in finding out what the students were up too. Umbridge definitely enjoyed pulling me in for punishment whenever she saw the opportunity, but even through her torment I would not give in especially not to her and not at the risk of hurting my friends. I walked though the passage after the painting made a comment about disturbing her beauty sleep. I saw Neville sitting with his legs tucked up on the couch. Was he waiting. I thought to myself. He stood up instantly.

"Y-Y/n I..." He began but stopped suddenly, his gaze trailing my injuries from Umbridge. A hint of anger in his eyes. Why does he care.

"Your staring is a little unsettling" I commented trying to break the silence. I turned away. Neville moved closer, he gently placed a finger under my chin so I would look at him properly. I was surprised by this and I could tell he was too. He swallowed nervously his adams apple bobbed, a tell that indicated he was nervous.

He promptly moved his hand.

"Sorry it's just...you are hurt and-" Neville started again.

"That's nothing new" I cut him off. His gaze dropped.

"I can't stand seeing you like this" His voice just below a whisper. I almost didn't catch what he said, the silence around us only assisted my hearing the slightest bit. I don't know what compelled me but I moved even closer to him. I could never get enough of his scent, a earthy smell and a tad of something sweet. A weird combination that was so him.

"You can't do anything about it Nev, this is-" He cut me off.

"But I should try" I could hear the anger in his voice. His face inches from mine.

"Why, we aren't-" I stop myself, stepping away from him. He looked almost sad to lose our close proximity. I shook my head slightly.

"I should go" I announced, walking away.

"But Y/n" He tried to get me to stay.

"Good night Neville" I said and made my way to my dorm room. I was hoping to have another lesson with Zuko tonight, I needed to focus on my progression right now.

Neville's POV

It hurt not being able to help her, not being able to tell her what she means to me, not being able to be with her. But who am I kidding why would she ever take me back, even look at me the same. I hate seeing her hurt but I hurt her too. It's my fault we aren't together. I went back up to my dorm trying to forget about us and the possibility that we would even get together again after everything I did.

I glanced at the coin in the morning to see we had another lesson for the D.A today. I was glad I needed to practice harder especially now that Bellatrix Lestrange has escaped Azkaban. I read the Daily Prophet about her escape, it angered me. I needed to avenge my parents, I need to practice. Everyone was worried about the news of Azkaban but no-one new the truth about my connection to Bellatrix, why it was so aggravating. All students headed to their classes.

"Neville" Seamus said firmly grabbing my shoulder to get my attention. I must have been in my own thoughts and didn't hear him.

"Yeah?" I said turning to him.

"You went to bed late last night, what were you doing?" He asked. I shook my head.

"Nothing" I replied not wanting to think about it.

"Are you sure it wasn't because of Y/n" He said smugly.

"What about Y/n?" Dean asked.

"Neville was with Y/n last night, I wonder what they were doing" Seamus was obviously teasing. I walked away not wanting anything to do with it right now. I took a seat waiting for Umbridge to begin, we still had five minutes but everyone was silent. The door opened to reveal Y/n. She took a seat behind me.

"Late for class Miss Y/l/n, my office after class." Umbridge giggled a little. I turned to look at Y/n, she looked tired.

"Turn around Mr Longbottom or you will also be seeing me after class" She threatened. I did as I was told. I want to help Y/n but what good would I do.

Your POV

I went to the D.A after my punishment, as I walked out I saw Cho Chang walk into Umbridge's office. She purposely bumped into me on the way in. I brushed it off and went to the lesson. I learnt a lot with Harry as I got to practice properly with what Zuko has been teaching me. I've learnt so much and can't wait to use it. I have a few new tricks up my sleeve. I'm a fast learner but the only thing I still can't control is my fire, it's unpredictable and I lose control a lot. Throughout the lesson I think everyone noticed how hard Neville was practicing, he was trying the hardest out of all of us. All of us were shocked when he stunned Ron.

Everyone surrounded him giving him praise, I was so proud of him but kept my distance. Harry had us dueling to learn how to react to incoming spells. I saw Hannah Abbott talking to Neville.

"Wow that was really impressive." She said touching Neville's arm. It made me sick seeing her act like they were a thing.

"Would like to duel?" Harry asked.

"Yeah actually I would" I told Harry.

"Okay maybe George-" I cut Harry off right there. I had another person in mind.

"How about Hannah" I spoke. Harry looked as though he was going to oppose that idea, but he was too slow.

"What's this you want to duel me, good luck then I've seen your skills not impressed. You don't stand a chance." She was very confident.

Harry was going to stop this but Fred and George put a hand in front of him.

"She needs to do this" They said in unison.

Hannah stood on one side of the room and I on the other. I removed my shoes a technique Zuko taught me to ground myself and feel whats around me. Hannah drew her wand and I drew mine. Harry told us to begin when we are ready.

"Stupify" Hannah yelled. I blocked her attack.

"Petrificus Totalus" I sent back which she blocked. I went for a disarming spell but not fast enough.

"Reducto" She yelled. I jumped out of the way using my powers to shield myself. She sent more explosive spells at me, I kept low to the ground and used my powers to move the rubble. I swirled it around her making a mini dust storm to impair her vision before using my enhanced telekinesis to pull her out of it fast and flinging her across the room. Finally finishing the duel with the full body binding curse I originally wanted to use.

I brushed myself off and took a breath. I was praised for my progression and new control over the rubble which I hadn't shown anyone. I saw Seamus pass the twins five gallons each. Those two never pass up the opportunity to place a bet. I was about to put my shoes back on before I felt a change in the grounds frequencies.

"Someone's coming" I said quickly. Everyone looked at me before we all heard a series of loud bangs. Harry looked through a peep hole that was made. He jumped back quickly, I saw a spark and reacted conjuring a shield in front of Harry to protect him from the blast. After the dust cleared up there stood Umbridge and her inquisitorial squad. Draco stood next to Cho Chang who flashed us the D.A coin. She betrayed us.

"Get them!" Umbridge said with a smirk.
