Chapter 1

"Come on Pippa," Renée's voice said as we pulled up to the group home with hundreds of kids running around it. "Who knows, you may leave with a child to surprise Steven with when he gets back," she added as she and Jazzy practically leaped out of the car in excitement

"But," I began but Renée held up a finger, ever the mother of us three

"No buts," she began as we stood in front of Graham Windham, "if you fall in love with a child here you're going to keep them. Besides what kind of idea would it be if the woman who played Elizabeth Schuyler-Hamilton to adopt a kid from the place that was founded by the person she's playing."

"I'm pretty sure if you fall in love with the kid that Steve will adore them," Jazzy said as she rounded the car to my left. "You don't have to get a kid here," she began looking at Renée, "she's just so excited to be here for the second time within three years."

Renée held up her hands in defense, "You can't blame me, I like helping kids and sometimes I take them home with me. I am pretty sad that the last one died so soon; she had such a troubled past."

I chuckled as I pictured the kid that Renée was talking about, "She was quite the person when she got used to us," I began. "Especially with the craziness that Lin and John get themselves into."

"Yeah and you treated her like another mother," Renée said once I finished

"The whole cast treated her like family," Jazzy pointed out, "you can't single her out when she wasn't the only one to do it."

"Are we going to keep bickering about how everyone took care of the last kid Renée adopted or are we going to go in and give these children a surprise," I asked in a huff as a kid ran past us

"She's not wrong," Renée said with a smile, "let's go inside."

Renée led the way in as I walked in with Jazzy behind me, nervously fiddling with the sleeve of my blue jacket. The kids cheered as we walked in and I smiled, I understood why Eliza started this foster home to remember Alexander but the excitement of the children when they saw us made me think that she was doing it more to see the happiness in these children.

I looked out at the crowd of kids who had surrounded us, my heart skipped a beat when I noticed someone in the shadows. "If you will please excuse me kiddos, it seems that one of you is missing from this surprise," I said as I made my way to the staircase. "Hey there little one, are you okay," I asked as I made it to her

"No," the girl muttered as she curled into the corner

"Why's that," I asked as I looked at her features, she looks exactly like me when I was her age

"You're only here for the publicity," she began, "you're only here to raise the spirits of us. You're not going to adopt any of us no matter how much we cheer and ask you questions. No one ever cares about a girl who was dropped off here by her mother when she was a baby."

The girl looked to be about four or five years old and it broke my heart to hear her say such things. "You know what," I said with a smile as I sat across from her, "what's your name?"

"Amy Wisp," she replied grumpily

"Well then Amy," I began as I sat next to her, "what would you say if I proved you wrong?"

The girl's head snapped up in my direction as I looked into her blue eyes, falling in love with the innocence in those eyes but my heart breaking as I also noticed the pain in them. "You're lying," she exclaimed before getting up and disappearing up the staircase

I heard a chuckle as someone came up to me, "You want to prove that girl wrong don't you," Renée's voice said as I stared at the staircase

"Yes," I began looking at the more experienced actress in front of me, "can you help me?"

AMY'S P.O.V

I sat at the window of my room as I watched the three women walk out of the building and into their car with smiles on their faces. I knew that she lied it was only a matter of time, there's no way that any of the actresses of Hamilton would adopt a kid from here without it being a publicity thing

"Amy," a voice yelled from downstairs as I sighed and rushed down the stairs

"Am I going to be punished for talking back to a celebrity," I asked as I made it down the staircase that hid in for most of the day until Phillipa Soo lied to me about one of them adopting me

"No," the director began as she handed me a broom and dustpan, "clean up the mess that every kid made trying to see those two."

"Yes ma'am," I said with a sigh as I took the broom that was taller than me in feet and gave me splinters. As usual celebrity guests come in, track in the dirt by surprising the kids and I get to clean up after empty promise makers

I stopped by the door of the director's office as I heard some people talking

"I can't believe it," the administrator's voice was saying, "Amy's getting adopted by one of those women."

"I'm gonna miss her, she's just as sweet as the kid that Renée adopted from here," the director's voice said as I started sweeping again my mind wondering which of the three actresses would adopt me and wondering why in the world they would adopt a four-year-old who hasn't been with a family in her whole life. I went to the cleaning closet and returned the broom before walking into the bathroom and began to pick at the splinters in my hands. It couldn't be Renée because she has already adopted someone from here within a year. I barely remember that girl because she was in and out for as long as I've been here. I think she was one of the teenagers that tried to take care of me before she went to her next house, always coming back with bruises and tears in her eyes. Jasmine wouldn't have any reason to adopt me aside from the publicity of the show that everyone doesn't see.

That only left one person out of the three women who visited, I wrapped my hands in toilet paper and looked into the mirror. My eyes were the only thing that showed hope, happiness, and excitement as I tossed my straight black hair over my shoulder and asked the question that was bothering me.

"Is Phillipa Soo a trustworthy promise keeper?"
