Chapter 38: The Question of Magic II

'What happened to make you so ashamed of your talent?' Nene asked again.

My younger brother was to have the honour of dealing the killing blow to the wild boar on a hunt for the first time. I dreamt the boar would severely wound him and he would not be able to walk again.

'He was only a little over a year younger than me, and we were close. I could not stand by and let him get hurt. I crept into his room the night before the hunt and begged him not to go. He considered me a silly girl for worrying about him. Goaded to anger, I told him about my dreams, thinking it was the only way he would listen to me and stay safe. I thought he would understand, and keep my secret.
