Chapter 34: Meeting The Neighbours I

True to his word, Damon had not visited for a full six-day, and they were some of the loneliest days of Amelia's life. It took all her willpower not to run into Port Marden to sit by the fire and drink tea with Cook and Bessie. Instead, she made herself wait until she was due to deliver her produce. Tomorrow was the agreed day, and Amelia had added a special gift of a pot of honey to thank the women for their support.

She was proud of her herself. Not only because she had managed to make it through a six-day without speaking to another soul, sanity intact, but because her garden was also coming along nicely. Soon she would have enough produce to begin selling at the markets, which was a relief as her only source of income was from Cook and that was not enough to keep her going in the long run.

She smiled to herself as she turned the soil, spreading cow and horse dung on it, getting another bed ready for a winter planting of potatoes.
