21 Limbo

Claire tried to shoot the Goblin King, but he was too fast, while Danton and Rudo were to busy killing the remaining small goblins now that their reinforcements left.

But as soon my hand started to glow, the shadows formed a giant shield. The shield was as tall as me, a masterpiece and at the same time full of adornments as if it were a work of art. But with almost no weight at all.

Once the claymore reached my shield I feel nothing, not even the impact of the attack, the massive black shield annulled all the damage from the claymore still destabilizing the Goblin King.

I stood in place frozen by surprise at the simple fact that I didn't die.

'Thafuc*, how this thing blocked?'

The Goblin King also surprised by the result, make another quick attack using the claymore, but in vain. Every time he swings his sword I just put the shield in place and this completely nullifies the attack, since the shield has no height the only problem is his size, maybe for someone as tall as Fulgence it would be good, but for me...

Yet the ability to completely nullify attacks was extremely powerful.

The Goblin King attacked, again and again, using his shield but in vain, every time getting more and more angry, attacking nonstop.

He was very fast at the beginning by using his height to launch itself forwards, but soon it got slower and slower until his claymore broke in two leaving him with only a broken claymore.

The old man taught me how to use a shield, but I was not able to use them properly due to their weight, even more holding a sword in the other hand. But now it was quite easy to move with the shield so the Goblin King had a bad time trying to hit me, he was too strong but also too big.

But yet, I can't just punch him in the face and expect to kill him now.

I grab a rock on the ground, surround it with shadows, forming a pointed part in the front, and launch it in the Goblin King.

Instead of losing speed after the launch, it just won more and hit him in the head leaving a small hole in his forehead.

He screamed with all his might, and with his bare hands, he attacks me. Each attack would make a hole in a wall but was nothing for my shield.

'Shit, this is not going to work, he can't damage me but neither I can damage him'

I keep picking stones on the ground, imbuing them with shadows and launching them in an attempt to make him give up fighting.

'If I could only grab some sword or just something long to use as my previous stick'

We kept doing it in an endless cycle, it seemed like it just wasn't going to end.

Then, I started to feel a little weight coming from the shield after a punch from him.

'I knew it wouldn't last forever'

But contrary to my expectations the shadow shield just blew the King Goblin into pieces.

'Holy shit, this shield does not nullify the effects of attacks, it absorbs just like me with the dark energy. I must have reached his limit, so he just released everything like a cannonball'

"I guess you got killed by yourself" I spoke for the remains of the King Goblin.

I look back and what I see is Claire already coming near me while Danton and Rudo fight the last five small goblins.

Claire turns back to the small goblins after seeing that I defeated the King Goblin, to help to finish the fight.

'The work is almost done, finally!'

I took a rock on the ground, mixed with shadows, and launched in the head of one small goblin killing him instantly.

Claire also killed one of the goblins while Danton and Rudo managed to kill the remaining three.

"We won!" Danton screams and everyone too, even though they barely have the strength to stand.

'I am too tired for this, I need to feed quickly'

I open my shell and start to feel the black energy, but it was just too much for me to keep away then everything came at once for me.

"arhrhrhrh" I start to convulse while the entire army of goblins with their King turns to dust in front of everyone.

'Too much, oh not again...'

I feel on the ground and the last thing I see is everyone running in my direction.

Again I am at the same blood sea with corpses all around, but this time darkness is already nearby.

'I had this same dream before, I must be changing again'

I start to walk towards him and the sea gets more and more shallow until I realize that there is an abyss ahead.

'What is she? Some answers would be good, maybe if I ask...'

I sit on the edge of the abyss on her side, she does not have a physical shape, but I can feel something there.

"Why am I here?" I ask looking to the abyss.

"Why wouldn't you? This is your home, and you never can leave your home"

"I don't know what you are talking about, this is just a dream and I don't have a home anymore"

"Nonsense, the abyss is your home!"

"The abyss? This place? What are you talking about?"

"Look to the abyss and tell me what you see my child"

"There is nothing there, I can see clearly in the dark, so I would know if I had"

"You can't see true darkness until you became one with her. But I will lend my power for you to see"

Again I look down but this time it's clear to me, what I see is simply Limbo. Dead people falling from the sky and thousands of monsters feeding on their bodies.

"What kind of monsters are these, I never saw them in my bestiary?" I ask scared by what I see, dogs with 3 heads, giants, and all sorts of black monsters.

"They are not monsters, they are just darkness. They are just a natural event of nature, as well as you"

"You know about me and my past? What happened before the battle? How I end up there?"

"Too many questions, yet not the right ones. You have no past, the world called for you, and now you must rule above them all"

"I must be hallucinating, speaking with a shadow"

"What am I, if not you? But enough talking, I think our time has come. I will lend my power for you, hope to see you soon..."
