Deal with the Devil

Dylan crashed on top of me as we finally found solace in the lustful encounter. "Oh! Meg! I don't know how I will get enough of you!" he said as he hyperventilated a little. I blankly stared at the ceiling as I heard him near my ear. It is a hard thing to understand how could he say these things, and in the next sentence, he could shatter me, saying he doesn't love me.

"Is there a point to all this? What kind of marriage will it be anyway?" I asked as he lifted himself away from me and turned over to the other side of the bed. "I don't know yet, Meg! I can't promise you anything, but I can tell you that I care for you a lot, and I will do my best to get you everything that you deserve," Dylan's answer was always very confusing.

I fell into my usual whirling thought patterns that does that still mean that he is unable to love me as I do. I turned on my side to face him and saw his face as he stared at the ceiling. "Don't take me wrong, Dyl! Why you have to restrain yourself so much? Don't you think what you feel is love?" I asked, gathering some strength.

He looked at my face thoughtfully, and to my surprise, he started stroking my hair and face with his left hand. "Why do women need a label to define a relationship? If I am married to you, I am your husband, and to be fair, you will getting me who treats you like everything a wife should be treated. Why can't you settle at that? Why do I have to tell you that I love you for making it work?"

I stared at him without having any words to put together as an answer to him. He was partially right; why do people need to hear it from people that they love that they do to believe it. But I turned on my side to face the ceiling as I thought of every way to stick with him because I knew it will be hard for me to let go. The thought of ending up alone was stronger than the fear of being manipulated into a loveless marriage.

I don't know how long I stared at the ceiling as the thoughts that my life was becoming scarier and scarier drowned me into a deep slumber. I opened my eyes without really being sure where I was or who I was with last night.

"Good morning, sleepyhead! It is Monday, remember?" Dylan asked with a smile. I sat in my bed to realize that I was still naked from last night. Dylan looked at me with a smirk on his face, which made me instantly cover myself with the covers.

"Don't worry. I don't plan to do anything now. You can shower here, then we go to your place where you can get dressed, and then I will drop you at your office. I nodded as I hoped he will the room but still was moving back forth around the room as he got himself ready for work. I sat there, admiring him in his workwear, which makes him look amazingly fit and handsome.

He noticed me watching for some time, so he turned to me, confused, "are you feeling okay? Maybe you should call in sick as your blood pressure might be unstable still from the last night." I stared at him blankly for a few seconds and then grabbed my top and underwear to wear beneath the sheets and got out of the bed without meeting his eyes.

"I am fine, Dyl! Just give me a moment to wake up. I am just a little tired," I said as I made the bed before sprinting into the restroom and closing the door behind me. I showered real quick and prepared myself to be back at work recovering from the two days of a complete mess.

I made my way downstairs as I slipped into a dress that Kizzy left for me on the bed. "Let's grab some breakfast," Dylan said as he saw me coming down the staircase. I nodded with a slight smile as he grabbed my hand and pulled me to the dining hall.

"Don't worry, Megan. She is gone to rule her empire early in the morning," his mom said as we entered the dining hall. She must have noticed my eyes searching for the woman I feared. I sighed in relief when I got the news that she wasn't here to taunt me even more right from the morning.

"Wow, Meg! You look fabulous in this dress. Maybe you should wear this to your work," Kizzy said as she sat down opposite Dylan and me. Shortly his dad and mom too sat down at the table as the servants came in serving different choices of breakfast. "Thank you, Kizzy. I am thinking the same," I said as I looked at her with a smile. Dylan looked at me and ran his eyes down all over me and, smiled approvingly at me.

I couldn't help but blush at the gaze that he threw at me. The way he looked at me every time was strangely different. I felt like my whole body came alive as his eyes fell on me every time. I chose the cereal with milk breakfast, which Dylan followed. I could feel a strange communication going on between the others at the table at the subtle tension that was being too obvious between Dylan and me.

"So, when will you be visiting us next?" His dad asked, maybe to avoid the awkward silence. I smiled and was about to respond that his mom interjected, saying, "what kind of question is that, Richard? Next, we all will be meeting at our anniversary event next month. Right?" We all smiled at his mom, and his dad nodded with a burst of audible laughter.

Dylan and I finished our breakfast as soon as we could. I said my farewell to his family, and we got on the road shortly after. "So you liked my family?" Dylan asked as, kept his eyes on the road. We were speeding through the road that connected the suburbs to the city. It took about a 45-minute drive to arrive at our workplaces. I looked at him with a smile and said, "I have never been with a happy family, so it is all new for me."

"Oh, are your parents separated?" he asked, as he briefly turned to look at my face. I pursed my lips, hoping to not let all of my thoughts out on that topic. "Well, I can only say that it is worse. They stayed together all their life, hating each other just for me. To give me both my parents, and that did more damage than what they intended," I said and fell silent, looking outside the window, hoping that I won't end up crying.

Dylan kept his silence for a moment suddenly. I felt his hand in my right palm, which made me feel my inner pain flush out like never before. I felt like I was not alone anymore. I felt like someone was there to stand beside me. I didn't even realize that a tear trickled down my eye unknowingly, which Dylan noticed almost immediately.

"Hey, you crying again? Meg, you know you have a family now! You have me! No matter what I say, I know that you can see how much I care about you. I will never let you down, and that is my promise," he said as he kissed my hand. I smiled, looking at him as I wiped my tear away.

"You are a very nice man, Dyl! I am so happy that I met you," I said, and he briefly looked at me again, but he was thoughtful, which I could see in his eyes. Something was lurking in his thoughts that he wanted to tell me. "What is it, Dyl?" I asked.

"Umm... so we decide to get married; will you be okay if I sleep with other women?" he asked, which made my heart lose its rhythm for a moment. I wanted to cry more than ever. More and more, I thought I was getting close to him more I felt betrayed. I sat there in silence as the city became visible at a distance, making me pray to end this drive faster.

Creation is hard, cheer me up!
