Chapter 14

It was an ordinary day. The sun was shining and the grass was blowing in the wind. Very calm. Until…

"Anyone here?" Someone yelled

I look past the gates to see a man dressed in brown with a matching little scally cap. He was carrying a bag filled with envelopes.

When he saw me, he ran up to me and asked

"Are you one of the castle guards?"

I nodded

His face brightened "Great! Do you mind delivering this to the mailbox? It's for the king and needs to be sent right away. I would do it but I'm behind schedule."

He handed me a red envelope. I nodded and took it.

He thanked me and ran down the road towards the town.

Now, where is this post office?

I would have given it to the other guards to deal with it but they were busy with some guest that came in unexpectedly. They left me to guard the gates for a little while on my own.

Leo went with them to make sure that they weren't spies like the last group.

I looked at the road that led to the town. I haven't been able to see much of this place since the only places I have needed to was the farm and this castle.

I'm sure that nothing will happen if I leave for just a few seconds. Right? Right!

I backed up and leaped over the fence. After landing safely, I start my journey down the road to the town.

The castle was surrounded by a forest filled with monsters. I'm sure there is a great backstory behind this castle but I'm more worried about the huge wolf that's blocking my path right now.

This wolf stood at eight feet tall, sharp teeth, and smoke emitting from its back.

It growled at me and moved closer.

I stood still. If I die then I die. It iz what it iz.

The closer it moved to me the smaller it got. By the time it was directly in front of me, it was barely past my knees.

I'm guessing that the smoke was some kind of illusion to make it seem bigger. Now, it looked like a cute puppy.

After petting it, I continued my journey.

The monsters here weren't evil or bad. Most of them were just legends made to keep bad people away from the castle.

The auras surrounding the animal were pure and calming. I also read from one of the books in the library about the "terrifying" monsters. Spoiler alert, they're not all that scary once you know what they are.

After walking for a while, I finally entered the town.

People were walking around and talking to each other without a care in the world.

I decided to wander around the buildings to find the post office. I can't exactly ask someone where the office was.

So, after about an hour or so I have some good news and bad news. The good news is that I can now say that I have been to the town. The bad news is that I'm now lost.

I have gone right and left and made the four right turns but nothing! I've been going around in circles.

I stop at a bench to rest my sore legs.

Gah! At times like these, I wish I still had my robotic body.

I closed my eyes to rest for a while when I heard screaming.

I looked around to see people gathered around a building. They were pointing up at something.

I looked up and saw a man holding a girl with a knife to her neck as he dangled here over the window.

"I'll do it! I swear I will!" He yelled

The girl was pleading for him to let her go but the man wouldn't listen.

It would be really handy to have wings to fly up, wouldn't it. Oh well.

I was walking to the building door to go up and save the girl when the man stabbed her in the chest and pushed her out the window.

My heart sped up for some reason and I was suddenly in the air. I caught the girl and brought her back down.

How did I…? I saw some feathers fall from above me and my back felt heavy. Wings?

"Who is that?" "One of the angels? What's it doing here?"

I heard people whispering around me but I blocked them out.

I focused on the girl's wound and sealed it back up.

I looked over at the townspeople. Using telepathy I said *She lost a lot of blood. She needs rest*

And with that, I left. Or at least I tried to.

The guards from the front gate blocked my path. Oh good. They can help me find the post office.

Leo came out from behind the guards. He held the man from the building, now bloodied and bruised, by the back of his shirt and handed him to a guard.

"Take him to the castle prison"

He looked back at me. The wings I had were now gone.

"You want to explain?" He asked

I was going to but I was interrupted.

The townspeople ran in front of me, as if to protect me, and yelled "She didn't do anything wrong!" "She saved us!" "She is an angel who is here to protect us."

They kept yelling things to a very confused Leo. He looked past the people at me. I held up the envelope.

He still didn't understand.

After convincing people that I wasn't in trouble, we left for the castle.

I told him what happened and he placed a hand on his mouth and turned. He was also shaking.

I got worried so I grabbed his hair and shook him.

"Gah! Are you trying to shake the life out of me?!?" He yelled

After he settled down, he started laughing.

I went for his hair again but he deflected my hand.

"Sorry for laughing. It's just too funny!"

I tilted my head

"This envelope is for the king. He had a special box in his office. That's like his mailbox. You didn't have to go into town for this"

Oh. Now you tell me!

"I'm sure the king will let you off with a warning but the real issue is the people who saw you. We were supposed to be keeping your abilities a secret."

Oh. Right.

The Next Day

Leo was right, the king didn't say much about the letter but he did tell me not to use my abilities in public.

He also said that he would take care of the people who saw me.

I'm not sure what he meant by that but isn't that what mafia people say? Like, "I'll take care of these people, you take care of them" or "put it in the baaag" No, that last one is a robber. Are they the same? No, I don't think so.

Anyways! It didn't matter because Xavier came back from the town with some good and bad news.

The good new is that no one remembers me. I'm guessing the feathers that had fallen, messed with the townspeople's memories. The bad? They are now worshiping me. Well not me personally but an angel. Just any random angle.

Oh well. My five seconds of fame have passed.
