Ignoring The Troubles of Life

Another day and another night passed.

The 'sleeping beauty' or rather 'sleeping calamity' woke up from her light snooze of about 20 hours.

Sitting up from her bed, Mitsuna rubbed her eyes as she glanced around her room.

Nothing out of the ordinary.

She then sensed the surroundings of her room and the building itself and also checked her own body with a quick scan.

Nothing out of the ordinary.

Mitsuna let out a tired breath. As she stood up slowly and stretched her body.

She walked over and opened the window after pushing aside the blinds.

Fresh morning desert air.

Taking a deep breath, she glanced around the city for a moment before turning away from the window and walking to the empty desk at the side of the room.

Pulling out the chair and moving it aside, she checked all the cabinets on the table before pushing the chair back in place.

Above the desk was a single lamp. If mana were to be inserted, it would glow for a while.

Analyzing the lamp closer for a brief moment, she turned to look at the window.

"I guess I'll go for a walk."

Mitsuna muttered to herself, the slightly warm morning breeze calling her.

Walking to the window, she hopped and sat on the windowsill.

Looking around the street that barely had more than 20 living people walking along it, Mitsuna took a look at the surrounding buildings.

Seeing that Lemon's Dagger was open, she thought about it for a moment.

"I'll step out for a second then."

Jumping down from the window, she carefully landed on the street and walked over to Lemon's Dagger. Entering the establishment, she was greeted by the sight of multiple people lying on the ground unconscious and the familiar face of Majo standing behind the bar counter.

Walking over, Mitsuna pulled out three bullets and placed them on the table.

"Sup. Can I get a bottle of something or other for three magic bullets?"

"Hello again, miss Mitsuna of The East. I do have a few bottles that I may trade but I must question the quality of your magic bullets beforehand."

Majo responded as he took one of the bullets and started inspecting it while Mitsuna sat down in front of him.

"You don't have to address me all fancy like that. Though, how does one inspect the quality of magic bullets?"

Mitsuna asked as she rested her head on her hand.

"Hmmm. I've no clue. Anyways, since I don't know about their quality all I can do is guess that they're middle of the bunch. If they're worth more I'll get you some free glasses after I've traded them and you'll have to pay me a few coin if they're worth less.

Then a bottle, I mean."

He said while flicking the bullet in the air before catching it again and placing it in his pocket along with the two other bullets.

"Sounds fair enough."

Mitsuna replied as Majo grabbed a bottle and glass from below the bar counter and handed them over to Mitsuna while telling her that the glass was on the house.

"Thanks."

"My pleasure, miss. And if I may ask, how did you find the quality of Lemon's Mace?"

"It was fine. The big slime guy there is a bit annoying though."

"Ah. That would be the overseer of the place, yes. He does indeed have quite the 'personality'.

He enjoys inserting himself into other peoples 'stories' and giving customers 'words of encouragement and advice' as he says it."

Majo commented, leaving out a few tidbits of information about Big Slime as he felt it would be best to not tell Mitsuna everything about the man.

"Well, aside from him, the receptionist is quite nice. Cassian, I mean."

"Oh, I know him yes. 'The Doll of Lemon'. Very popular among women.

Has the miss here also taken a fancy to him I wonder?"

Majo teased slightly as he leaned forward, happy to divert the topic to something other than the dealings of the Big Slime of Lemon's Mace.

And contrary to Majo's expectations, Mitsuna showed no real reaction to the accusation he made.

"Not really, no. Though he is quite funny."

She said the last part with a light smile.

"Teasing the kid is fun."

She added as a small devilish grin was plastered on her face.

Though it was not the reaction Majo was expecting, he was pleased to see the slightly dreary look on Mitsuna's face disappear.

"Anyway, I'll get going."

Mitsuna said as she stood up from her seat and turned to leave.

"See you later Majo."

"And farewell to you too. Do make sure to complete your army application at some point as well, the soldiers are getting more irritated as more time passes."

Mitsuna stopped for a short moment, not long enough that it looked like she was thinking of a response and not short enough that she looked like she had a response ready to be fired. It seemed more like she was thinking over her response.

"...I'll go and do it when I feel like it... Bye, guy."

She turned after showing Majo a quick peace sign and left the establishment without another word.

Majo let out a quiet breath as he rubbed his chin gently and thought to himself.

'Seems old slime Monstard's analysis was correct to some degree.'

Majo returned to his daily doings after the quick thought, endlessly cleaning glasses and preparing bottles to be opened while kicking the stray people who lay on the floor.

...

Back in Mitsuna's room, she jumped through the open window.

Walking over to the empty desk, she opened the bottle and poured half the glass full.

Smelling the drink before taking a sip, she tilted her head slightly before placing the glass back on the counter.

Cracking her neck, she looked blankly at the lamp that stood over the desk.

'... I can make you...'

Mitsuna thought as she was slightly curious about how the lamp worked in detail.

Hopping on the table, she gathered mana near her hand and touched the lamp, letting mana flow through it as it lit up.

Studying the structure of the item, she carefully pried it off the wall and hopped down to sit at her desk as she took it apart piece by piece.

After a while, Mitsuna had slightly modified the lamp. It now gathered mana from the surroundings and activated when a small switch at its side was flipped.

The mana absorption of the lamp was particularly low so it would work quite a long while even in an environment with low mana.

As she analysed the lamp she had just finished making, she narrowed her eyes as she looked at it.

'I could make it better. Maybe add a floating feature so it wouldn't be stuck to a... wall.'

She looked at where she had removed the lamp. The wall had a hole in it.

Deciding to modify the lamp a little more, she kept working on it for a few minutes.

It was now supported by a metal plate that would completely cover the hole in the wall and it wouldn't fall off because it would basically be nailed to the wall with long and thin metal nails that were barely visible to the naked eye when viewed at a distance.

Placing the lamp back where she had taken it from, she memorized the blueprint for it and was about to move on to modifying her bullets but as she turned to stretch her body slightly, her forearm hit the back of the wooden chair she was sitting on.

Slightly rubbing her arm, she looked at the back of the chair before tilting her head back slightly.

'... I can make you...'

Her curious nature had finally resurfaced and she had entered a state of hyper fixation. Finally, it was time for her to start experimenting with whatever caught her eye.

She stood up and started studying the chair with her arms folded and head slightly tilted to the side. Leaning to the side as she stood on one leg, Mitsuna had ideas and thoughts filling her mind to the very brim and this time no one would show up to distract her for quite a while.

One could only pray for the safety of all furniture items inside her room.
