A Vampire's Tale

The world of Norvak isn't for the weak. A land where might makes right isn't for the faint of heart. A land where different species battle for supremacy and the defeated either enslaved or exterminated. The continent of Revix has witnessed the rise and fall of many species. With a relatively peaceful period being established a little over ten thousand years ago. The result of this peace is the separation of different species. The land of humans, Cyntros, covered most of the central part of the continent. The lands in the north, Aterix, gave shelter to the elves and other creatures of light. The south held the creatures of darkness and it's original name, Rimul, long forgotten. A land that the humans had long dubbed, The Darklands. To the east was an endless desert where the banished and hated lay their bones. A place where nature threatens both predator and prey. Yet most feared of all was the west, a land of giants and titans. Where mountains vanish and valleys form from the movements of it's inhabitants. On the edges of The Darklands, the greed of men sends a group of hunters to their demise. The lone survivor, Milas, is turned into one of the ruling species of The Darklands, a vampire. With a past clouded in mystery and an uncertain future, Milas does all he can to survive. With the potential to become more than he could have ever imagined, Milas faces all threats that come his way. "The right to live is a privilege that only the powerful have access to. I don't appreciate others having that privilege over my life. And I'll do what I must to earn my right!"

50 The Weekend Game Begins

Two days flew by in a flash. Milas was resisting the temptation offered by the weapons in the training hall. No one paid attention to them and Master Sanim would stand in the corner as everyone was free to practice. Master Sanim had a very simple principle, if you aren't motivated to train you aren't motivated to survive.

He told people to train by going against someone who you think is better than yourself. Milas was expecting to get challenged by many students but he only fought Aileen. She would try to fight him without weapons but would end up losing. Aileen acknowledged that she couldn't win in hand to hand combat so she brought knives to a fist fight. Milas hated losing to Aileen but he needed to learn how to fight with no weapons.

The combat classes may have been a pain but the other classes allowed Milas to relax. He had stopped trying so hard during the resistance lesson and decided to leave as soon as Aileen gave up. Spending the afternoon with Miss Priscilla was put on hold since she was busy with work. Milas still got the mana crystals even without the lessons.

Milas was also stealing a few light crystals around the compound everytime he got the chance. He knew that nobody cared since vampires could see quite clearly in the dark. The academy seemed to think the same way since none of the six light crystals he stole had been replaced

The orange flame of the setting sun illuminated the underside of the clouds covering the dark lands. The ring of shade on Milas' finger was proving it's worth. The teenager had been roaming in the open for sometime and there was no effect. He couldn't even feel the gentle warmth that he would feel as a human. For Milas, the sun was like a much brighter version of the moon.

Milas headed straight for the forest where everyone was gathering. They had been told to gather here by Master Sanim at the end of his lesson. Milas could see some subclasses so he knew that it wasn't a vampire exclusive event. They waited a few meters away from the treeline. The gathering steadily increased till the sun disappeared in the horizon.

It was only after every student had gathered that the teachers arrived. They walked as a group and wordlessly entered the forest leaving only the homeroom teachers. The homeroom teacher for the subclasses was a little over five feet and had dyed her hair silver. The vampire's homeroom teacher was as disinterested as always.

"Goodnight everyone, we called you here today for your first ever weekend game. There are three different types of games and you will soon be competing in the simplest one. Today's game will be a battle royale where the last five survivors will get a flask of mage blood each." The subclass's homeroom teacher said before the vampire's homeroom teacher interrupted.

"For those of you who don't know, mage blood helps in unlocking a person's hidden element. It is hard to obtain but it's effects are not to be undermined since some of you might unlock your element as soon as you drink it." As he spoke, the teacher stared at the crowd like there was nothing but an empty space.

"The rules are simple. You are forbidden from taking the life of your fellow schoolmates. You aren't allowed to leave the forest till the game is announced to be over. Other than those two rules everything else is fair game inside the forest.

The way to eliminate someone is to knock them out or make them give up. If you wish to surrender just press the blue crystal and the screen will give you the option to surrender. The bracelet will keep track of you and inform us when someone is too injured to continue. If this happens, the student is immediately eliminated.

There will be members of staff in the forest keeping an eye on you. Once eliminated, the red crystal on your bracelet will pulse brightly. You are to leave the forest immediately and not interfere with the other participants. Any form of interference will lead to severe punishment. The game begins when your bracelet vibrates and ends when the same happens. You may enter the forest in the meantime." The instructions given by the silver haired teacher were over and the students entered the forest with a mix of excitement and anxiousness.

Milas branched away from the group as soon as he crossed the treeline. These people had now become his enemies. He quickly distanced himself by racing farther from the group. He ran till he was sure that nobody was near him before leapt toward a tree. Milas used his right foot to push off the trunk and grabbed a branch. He swung and propelled his body to another branch before raising his body up and vanishing in the thick foliage.

Milas stayed completely still as his ears picked any and all sounds around him. His focus was ruined when his bracelet vibrated so hard that he felt it in his bones. The game had began and Milas had come up with a flawless plan. He would just hide and let everyone else tire out before swooping in to eliminate everyone.

A minute had barely passed when the ringing of clashing blades and pained screams filled the forest. Milas could easily determine the direction of the fiercest clash and he knew exactly what to do. His body glided silently in the treetops as he moved in the opposite direction.

This kept up for a while with the clashes reducing in intensity but being more spread out. Milas was avoiding everyone but he soon reached the end of his luck. It was an abrupt and annoying end. Milas was casually leaping towards a branch when his body collided with the air. He fell on his butt and sat there for a minute questioning if he was hallucinating.

Milas reached out and felt a smooth and cool surface in front of him. He blindly explored the surface and decided to go back when he realized that there was no way around or past it. He suddenly picked up the sound of snapping twigs and heavy breathing. The sound was moving fast in his direction and Milas immediately leapt into the closest tree.

He would have tried to run but that would leave traces plus, it would be nice to see someone else hit the invisible wall. Milas didn't wait for long as a short and chubby teenager ran by with a mace in hand. The natural speed of a vampire became his doom as he ran face first into the invisible wall. The impact broke the teenager's nose and blood flowed from the nostrils as he lay down facing the sky.

A taller boy with a spear in hand ran towards the first and leapt high into the air. The spear was brought down with the full weight of the boy behind it. The chubby teenager rolled out of the way letting the spear impale the ground where his body once occupied. Milas expected the chubby teenager to attack the spear kid's legs but the teenager jumped back to his feet and created distance between them.

"Treasure truce!" The chubby teenager suddenly yelled. The spear kid paused immediately.

"Where? And you better not lie because I'll end you if you do." Milas was wondering what the two were talking about until the chubby teenager pointed right at him. The look on Milas' face was full of shock. He didn't know how the chubby teenager found him but he wasn't going to wait around and ask. He moved through the branches like a monkey with perfect jumps that wasted no movement.

It only took a minute for Milas to know how disadvantaged he was by moving in the morning treetops. He could move in unpredictable patterns but his two pursuants had a wider area to move. Milas would have probably kept up the chase for a long time if a spear hadn't threatened to skewer him. Being forced to dodge made him lose his footing and he was soon on the ground.

Milas jumped back as soon as his body regained some balance. A heavy mace struck his previous position kicking up dust. Milas got on his feet and readied himself for a tough battle. His opponents were armed and seemed hellbent on taking him down. This made no sense since they had been fighting each other just minutes ago.

"Why are you guys after me when you were already fighting each other?" Milas needed some time to come up with an escape and this was the only thing he could come up with.

"Two reasons, you made us kneel for you and you made the son of a noble kneel for you. This is both personal and business since we'll gain some privileges after we injure you badly and the satisfaction of beating you up till you kneel is a reward in itself." The chubby teenager was the talkative type so he was quick to answer.

"If this is your plan of buying time it's useless. The entire vampire class is after you and the subclasses won't help a vampire. You are completely alone with a target on your back. Escaping us won't matter so just give up and let us destroy you. You were doomed since you entered the forest." The tall spear user said before suddenly charging at Milas. He had a clear shot since Milas had left himself open.

The spear was inches away from Milas before it came to a halt. The teenager tried to use more force but it was pointless. Milas was holding the spear just behind the blade. The teenager looked at Milas' face and fear gripped his heart. It was the same fear that made him kneel a few days ago. The red glowing eyes that stared back at him were giving more pressure than on that day.

"I'm not the one who is doomed." Milas said with a threatening voice and a malicious smile on his face.
