A Vampire's Tale

The world of Norvak isn't for the weak. A land where might makes right isn't for the faint of heart. A land where different species battle for supremacy and the defeated either enslaved or exterminated. The continent of Revix has witnessed the rise and fall of many species. With a relatively peaceful period being established a little over ten thousand years ago. The result of this peace is the separation of different species. The land of humans, Cyntros, covered most of the central part of the continent. The lands in the north, Aterix, gave shelter to the elves and other creatures of light. The south held the creatures of darkness and it's original name, Rimul, long forgotten. A land that the humans had long dubbed, The Darklands. To the east was an endless desert where the banished and hated lay their bones. A place where nature threatens both predator and prey. Yet most feared of all was the west, a land of giants and titans. Where mountains vanish and valleys form from the movements of it's inhabitants. On the edges of The Darklands, the greed of men sends a group of hunters to their demise. The lone survivor, Milas, is turned into one of the ruling species of The Darklands, a vampire. With a past clouded in mystery and an uncertain future, Milas does all he can to survive. With the potential to become more than he could have ever imagined, Milas faces all threats that come his way. "The right to live is a privilege that only the powerful have access to. I don't appreciate others having that privilege over my life. And I'll do what I must to earn my right!"

The homeroom teacher was still going on about the history of vampires. Milas was just surprised by how honest the history lesson was. Vampires didn't really care if they had been portrayed as evil by history. As long as the species conquered anything in their way it was considered a win. The vampire species was not the scheming type where those in charge controlled the situation so that no one could rival them like humans did.

Vampires were more straight forward as they would just blatantly get rid of anyone who threatened them. They believed in a world where the strong rule since the weak wouldn't be able to protect their belongings. Milas learned that the blood they drank was obtained from the human realm outside the Darklands. The vampires had a deal with a small human kingdom in the east to give a few of their own as a sacrifice or they would just enslave the kingdom and use them like cattle.

Milas felt sick to his stomach when he learnt that the blood he had been taking came from people who were basically enslaved. He was burning with rage and it worsened when he saw everyone else not caring. The final straw was when a student asked why they don't just enslave the kingdom instead of risking their food source escaping.

Milas' eyes glowed bright red and the blood energy in his body raged uncomfortably. He needed to calm down but the discussion kept going and he realized that vampires saw humans as nothing more than food. Milas stood up with his fists balled so tightly that his fingernails pierced his palms. The healing factor closed the small wounds faster than blood could flow out.

He walked straight towards the teacher with his eyes burning brighter than ever. The homeroom teacher wasn't the tallest as he stood at eye level with the seventeen year old. Milas was battling the urge to punch the nonchalant face of the teacher. He knew that it wasn't worth it since the hit wouldn't land and the consequences would be devastating.

"I don't feel well and would like to rest." Milas' voice sounded strained through his clenched teeth.

"Go drink some blood, it'll help if you got poisoned when roaming in the forest. I also suggest you clean up before a lesson, I can smell the forest all over you." The answer was short and Milas didn't hesitate to leave once the permission was given. He dashed to the bathroom, kicked the door open and proceeded to vomit.

The feeling of disgust was on a level that he couldn't contain. He had gotten so used to drinking blood that he often overlooked the fact that it was from humans. At one point, Milas had convinced himself that the blood must be from another race but reality was cruel. His stomach was empty and nothing came out. Milas sat on the ground and proceeded to make a new plan.

He couldn't live among vampires anymore since he now had an urge to kill them. Milas knew that humans weren't the best of races but they were still his kind and it pissed him off to know that they were being treated like this. His current situation wasn't the best but he was determined to find a way to back to the human lands.

The only thing he could do now was learn everything he could about vampires and the settlement. He would need information if he ever wished to leave this place safely. The other thing he needed to do was getting as strong as possible to defeat anyone who might stand in his way. The first steps of his plan were simple and the next required patience. Milas would have to wait for an opportunity when there were few people around to stop him if he tried to leave.

Milas finally stood up from the bathroom floor. He cleaned up and left the place with a clear goal in his mind. He needed to find weapons and armour. Milas had destroyed the ones he had with blood mist so he now needed to get new ones. He first considered stealing from the training hall but he knew that there must be measures set up to stop such attempts.

The only way to get weapons was to either ask Miss Priscilla or steal from another student. Milas decided to ask first before attempting to steal. Milas roamed the empty hallways before he found himself in the training hall. Now that he was here, he wanted to see if he could get the weapons. He however remembered that each training hall has a unique trigger required to access the equipment stored underground.

Left with nothing to do, Milas decided on cultivating his blood energy. He wasn't feeling any effect and was tempted by the allure of using more energy. Milas decided to try it but Van immediately screamed in his mind. The shout was so loud that Milas was disoriented. His mind couldn't process how it was injured by a noise without the ears being affected. The result was a splitting headache and a nosebleed.

"You will learn to listen to me. I may be giving you free will to roam around but I won't let you intentionally cripple yourself. I need you to get stronger if I ever wish to survive and I won't let your impatience kill the both of us." Van was actually pissed by the idiocy the young vampire displayed. He already told him that it was dangerous to cultivate using a lot of blood energy and the fool did exactly that.

"What the hell was that? Couldn't you simply tell me to stop?" Milas knew that he may have done the wrong thing but the violent reaction was still unjustified.

"That was a mind attack and I will be using it whenever I see you doing something stupid. That master of your's must have known that only pain can teach you." Van was now determined to keep Milas on a short leash after seeing how he kept messing things up.

"I don't like being controlled so you better not try it if you know what's good for you." Milas may have been forced to submission by the overwhelming might of Deogratius but he wouldn't be controlled by someone who couldn't physically hurt him.

"I don't want to control you, all I want is to live and if it requires me to control you then so be it. I won't interfere with your choices unless they can cause harm to both of us." Van lacked the strength to take full control of Milas but he could still cause a mind attack. The compromise was simple, Milas had to stop endangering himself and Van wouldn't care about what he did.

"I will only accept it if you don't use the mind attack on me. If I do something that endangers me you should tell me because that is how people get along." Milas wanted someone around to warn him when he was about to mess up. He also needed Van to teach him blood skills so he didn't want to have an argument.

The bell rang in the distance and Milas knew that everyone would arrive in a few minutes. He was getting mad just thinking about what happened in the previous class. Milas knew that it wasn't good for him to let his emotions get the better of him. He calmed down when he thought of his plans to leave this place.

His first goal was getting new weapons so he would focused on that. It seemed to be working wonders as he no longer had the urge to kill the vampires even after the students started to enter the hall. Step rushed to his side like she usually did but Milas didn't feel the protectiveness he usually had. Even Step felt the change in his behavior and the look he gave her.

"What's wrong Milas? Are you still feeling sick?" Step immediately thought that his behavior had to be caused by whatever had affected him during class.

"Tell me the truth Step, how do you feel about humans? What do you consider them to be?" Milas was torn between his newfound hate for vampires and the urge to protect Step that refused to go away. He was hoping that she would at least give him a reason to not hate her.

"I don't know anything about humans other than that we need their blood. But I've always wanted to see them. I want to know how they live and everything about them. Why are asking this all of a sudden?" It sounded like Step was actually genuinely curious about humans.

"No reason, just curious." Milas was breathing a sigh of relief in his mind. He was glad that Step didn't look down on humans like the other vampires. Maybe he could make sure that she doesn't get corrupted by everyone else by convincing her that humans were more than just food for vampires.

The lesson went smoothly with Miss Priscilla asking everyone to keep channelling blood energy to their eyes. At the end of the lesson, Milas asked Miss Priscilla about where he could find new weapons and her answer was a bit mysterious.

"You'll find out the answer to that question this weekend." Milas had no choice but to wait for the weekend which was two days away.
