A Vampire's Tale

The world of Norvak isn't for the weak. A land where might makes right isn't for the faint of heart. A land where different species battle for supremacy and the defeated either enslaved or exterminated. The continent of Revix has witnessed the rise and fall of many species. With a relatively peaceful period being established a little over ten thousand years ago. The result of this peace is the separation of different species. The land of humans, Cyntros, covered most of the central part of the continent. The lands in the north, Aterix, gave shelter to the elves and other creatures of light. The south held the creatures of darkness and it's original name, Rimul, long forgotten. A land that the humans had long dubbed, The Darklands. To the east was an endless desert where the banished and hated lay their bones. A place where nature threatens both predator and prey. Yet most feared of all was the west, a land of giants and titans. Where mountains vanish and valleys form from the movements of it's inhabitants. On the edges of The Darklands, the greed of men sends a group of hunters to their demise. The lone survivor, Milas, is turned into one of the ruling species of The Darklands, a vampire. With a past clouded in mystery and an uncertain future, Milas does all he can to survive. With the potential to become more than he could have ever imagined, Milas faces all threats that come his way. "The right to live is a privilege that only the powerful have access to. I don't appreciate others having that privilege over my life. And I'll do what I must to earn my right!"

33 First Lesson

The crescent moon hung in the sky with a legion of stars around it. The magnificence and splendor of such a sight was ruined by the darkness enveloping the land. This was one of the few nights in the Darklands when the sky was cloudless. It would have been a lovers paradise especially for hot blooded teenagers if they weren't stuck in class.

Milas learnt with a surprise that vampires held their classes at night. The only day class was at noon and it was a half hour long sun resistance training compulsory for everyone. He also learnt that it was the responsibility of the parents or guardians to provide a ring of shade to their kids. Everyone was wearing one but a few weren't as they had taken them off.

He was scanning the faces of those in the classroom and didn't notice Asher. Milas assumed that he might be in another class since his class only had about half the population. He was staring at the faces of other students to memorize them when a thin man in a cloak walked in. The entire class went silent and focused on the man with a neatly trimmed beared and short hair.

"I'm your class teacher and you can blame the principal for making me responsible for watching you. My name is none of your concern and you will refer to me as teacher." Milas was already proud of this guy since he talked like he didn't care and it actually felt genuine. The teacher decided to continue. "Do not expect me to remember your names unless it's worth remembering. So you can introduce yourselves by the number of your dorm rooms. And we'll start with you."

The introduction started with a boy who had the top of him head dyed red. He stood up straight like a spear and spoke with a voice loud enough to cover the classroom. "I'm number twenty three."

"Okay twenty three, but I never asked you to stand. I know that it's etiquette but I'm teaching you how to survive and that doesn't include being nice. Next." The teacher said and the students quickly introduced themselves or their numbers. Milas noticed that a lot of numbers were missing and was curious to know. Well, he wasn't the only one because number twenty three raised his hand and asked the exact question.

"This is the pure class which consists of pure blooded vampires. The other class has subclasses and half breeds. Before you ask, a half breed is someone whose parents are a vampire and a subclass. They have different traits when compared to you and require unique lessons. Let's start our first lesson. We will be learning about the origin of vampires and if you know the tale then that's good for you." The teacher said and he sat on the table before starting the tale. Milas focused wholly on him and paid attention to every word that was said.

The story begins a few thousand years ago when the all the realms were connected. The realm of men and that of demons had been at war for as long as anyone could remember. The human realm was losing its territory to the demons due to their naturally superior bodies. The humans decided to seek assistance from another race that hated the demons more than the humans did, the devils.

The hatred the devils had for demons originated from the defeat they suffered at their hands. The demon realm once belonged to the devils till they were driven out. They had to move to a broken realm that was so horrible they named it Hell. This war was the perfect opportunity for them to take back their land.

An alliance was made and the two races attacked the demons from two fronts. Years of death and bloodshed saw the demon race almost go extinct. They made their final stand in the demon realm capital. All hope was lost for the demons as they approached extinction. It was then that a mysterious being came to them with a solution to their predicament.

The being infused three different energies into the bodies of fallen demons. The result of infusion was the creation of the three original vampires. The vampires had a thirst for blood and the ability to turn others into one of their kind. The creation of vampires posed an immediate threat to the humans and they focused on them and the army they created.

The demons allowed the vampires to battle the humans as they focused on the devils. They managed to push the devils out of the realm but they were faced with a new problem. The vampires had won the war against the humans and the result of it was an idle army of bloodthirsty beings. The humans had retreated to their realm and the vampires had lost their source of food.

A new war broke out between the demons and the vampires with the demons losing. Vampires could get stronger as they consumed blood and demon blood had more energy than that of humans. The mysterious being intervened by personally destroying the vampires. The originals, when faced with the threat of death, escaped to the human realm. They conquered a vast area and used a powerful spell to make the place suitable for vampires.

This was how the Darklands were formed and it was also the beginning of the vampire civilization. Many discoveries were made and the originals left the vampires to grow on their own. It is also due to this tale of bloodshed that the vampire race has many enemies. There were also times when we went to war with other races so we have bad blood with many races.

"I'll list some races that have a grudge against us as a way to motivate you to get stronger. Other than the humans and demons, we made enemies with the elves when a vampire drained one of their oracles of blood. The dark elves hate us because of our charm skill. Dwarves hate us for taking over their mines and using them as living areas. Werewolves hate us because we exist. There was also another race but we accidentally exterminated them since their blood offered too many benefits to vampires. There is also the thing about damphirs but that is none of your concern. Basically every race whose blood we can consume hates our guts.

"Now that you're aware of the enemies you have just by being a vampire, you should use that as motivation to improve. This is a world where the powerful survive and the weak are devoured." The teacher said and stood up, stretched a little before heading to the door. Someone immediately raised their hand to ask a question before the teacher could leave.

"You have a question eighty one?" The student was surprised that he could remember the number but she quickly straightened up and asked her question.

"Teacher, there are about thirty minutes left before the lesson ends. Why are you leaving?" The girl asked and her voice had a high pitch due to her nervousness.

"I already taught what I wanted to teach. The academy requires students to attend class till the time is over and last time I checked I'm not a student. You can use this time to get acquainted with each other. Just make sure that you're not late for the next class." The teacher said and immediately left. It almost felt like he was trying to escape.

The teacher left the bewildered students and they immediately started to talk with each other. Milas was planning to stay silent and inconspicuous but a hand slammed on his desk ruining his plans. He looked up and saw the pretty face that he had come to hate.

"Hello Aileen, how can I rearrange your teeth today?" Milas said to the girl who was already frowning.

"I agree to your deal for working together to survive the punishment. The only condition I have is that you have to quit being rude." Aileen was currently sucking up her pride for this. She wanted nothing more than to punch his head off.

"Ok fine. I also have a condition of my own. You cannot keep attacking me for that day." Milas gave the only condition he could think of at the moment.

"I agree to your condition. We need to plan a time for when we can train together." Aileen said and turned to leave.

"That's one problem off my plate." Milas said as he leaned his head on the desk pretending to sleep.
