A Vampire's Tale

The world of Norvak isn't for the weak. A land where might makes right isn't for the faint of heart. A land where different species battle for supremacy and the defeated either enslaved or exterminated. The continent of Revix has witnessed the rise and fall of many species. With a relatively peaceful period being established a little over ten thousand years ago. The result of this peace is the separation of different species. The land of humans, Cyntros, covered most of the central part of the continent. The lands in the north, Aterix, gave shelter to the elves and other creatures of light. The south held the creatures of darkness and it's original name, Rimul, long forgotten. A land that the humans had long dubbed, The Darklands. To the east was an endless desert where the banished and hated lay their bones. A place where nature threatens both predator and prey. Yet most feared of all was the west, a land of giants and titans. Where mountains vanish and valleys form from the movements of it's inhabitants. On the edges of The Darklands, the greed of men sends a group of hunters to their demise. The lone survivor, Milas, is turned into one of the ruling species of The Darklands, a vampire. With a past clouded in mystery and an uncertain future, Milas does all he can to survive. With the potential to become more than he could have ever imagined, Milas faces all threats that come his way. "The right to live is a privilege that only the powerful have access to. I don't appreciate others having that privilege over my life. And I'll do what I must to earn my right!"

30 First Day

Milas finally opened his eyes and saw the stainless white ceiling above him. He felt the softness of the bed luring him back to sleep but he resisted and tried to find out where he was. The room he was in looked like a smaller version of the one he had in Deogratius' mansion. Milas flexed the muscles across his body to check the functionality of his body. Everything was normal and there was no proof of his wounds. The healing capabilities of his vampire body never ceased to amaze him.

The door opened when he was wondering if he should stand up or go back to sleep. A tall woman with gravity defying breasts stood there with one of the special flasks that stored blood. She made eye contact with Milas and immediately frowned. Milas was not expecting such a reaction from someone he'd just met.

"You slaves always get into trouble and have to get treated. You should know that vampires don't exactly know how to treat the injured. I am hired to take care of the wounded and even I don't know how to do it. The only way to is to give someone blood and if it doesn't work then that person is as good as dead. The principal doesn't even seem to understand this simple thing. Always forcing me to care for people who only need blood. It's like I have no better things to do than feed the unconscious. This isn't fair, he needs to...." Milas had stopped listening to the ranting of the woman. She seemed to be letting everything that irked her off her chest since Milas was basically stuck there.

Milas scanned the perky bowls on her chest but even that eventually lost its visual charm. He distracted himself by trying to recall everything that happened before he passed out. The only thing he was sure of was that he heard the principal's voice saying that the test was over. He decided to find Asher later and get the information off him. The woman was now complaining about her husband and Milas had had enough.

"Listen lady, I don't recall asking about your life. If you have nothing else to do then shut up or knock me out so I don't have to hear your annoying voice." Milas interrupted the woman with a serious tone. The woman's face turned red with embarrassment and rage. She wanted to wring the boy's neck but the academy rules stopped her. The most she could do was drink the blood that was meant to be for him.

The woman slammed the door shut so hard that the wood splintered. Milas shook his head and got out of the bed. He saw a bracelet made of metal with three crystals on it. There was a clear crystal in the middle with smaller crystals beside it with one being blue and the other one being red. There was a small note beside the bracelet. He picked it up and read the information.

"Welcome student. The bracelet you have been issued is proof of you being a student of this academy. Pour a drop of your blood on the clear crystal and wear it. Put on the uniform inside your wardrobe and press the blue crystal gently to receive further instructions." The message was short and precise but the most important thing Milas found out was that he had joined the academy.

He followed the instructions by biting his finger with his fangs. The drop of blood touched the clear crystal and it lit up white as the others glowed with their respective colors. The light disappeared and Milas finally wore the golden bracelet. He was disappointed with the color and design but the bracelet did something magical. It changed color design by becoming a black band with the image of a phoenix spreading its wings in the middle. The clear crystal looked like the heart of the phoenix while the other two were on each wing. The color of the phoenix changed between bloodred and flaming orange depending on how the light fell upon it.

Milas was pleased with the new form of the bracelet. He then opened the wardrobe and changed into the academy's uniform. The material was tough yet it allowed aeration and flexibility. The color was mostly black and a thick blue line ran across it from his right shoulder to the left side of his waist. The pants and boots were full black but the whole set had the ability to adjust to his body size. The left side of his chest had an insignia of a wolf's head with a sword stabbed into it.

Milas was finally ready and he pressed the blue crystal. A blue, glass like image appeared from the crystal and floated above his hand. The screen followed Milas' hand no matter what he did. His hand would pass through it but it could sense where he touched. He finally calmed down when he realized that it wasn't doing him any harm. It was then that he noticed words on the screen.

"Student Milas, please follow the arrow towards the registration desk where your schedule will be given and your property returned. Click 'ready' when you are ready to follow the arrow." The message said and the word ready was glowing at the bottom of the text. Milas took a deep breath and prepared for more surprises but all that happened was the screen disappearing and an arrow replacing it.

The arrow pointed towards the door so he opened it and found himself in a hallway with multiple doors on both sides. The doors had numbers etched on them and his was number 57. He made a mental note of it and followed the arrow towards the end of the hallway. Milas descended some stairs and followed the arrow towards a desk where a bored man twirled a dagger between his fingers.

Milas watched the dagger appear and disappear in the vampire's skillful hands. The man had noticed Milas' amazed gaze and decided to show off. The dagger moved faster than ever and Milas had trouble tracking its movements. The dagger was thrown to the sky and Milas stared at it before his instincts warned him of impending danger.

The vampire was holding another dagger to his throat while Milas was trying to escape. The man caught the other dagger and backed away while chuckling. Milas realized that the man was only teasing him and he went closer to the desk.

"Your instincts are sharp kid. The other students I did that to didn't notice the dagger on their necks till the other one hit the ground. Now what can I do for you?" The vampire said clearly happy to get something to do.

"I was led here by this arrow. Something about a schedule." Milas answered while pointing at the arrow.

"You are like three days late. Everyone else collected their stuff days... wait, you're the kid who got pummeled during the test? You are one tough kid. Anyway, here's your stuff. Show me your bracelet and I will send you the schedule." The vampire said while handing Milas a bag with the number 57 on it. Milas opened it and confirmed that everything was there, even the waist pouch. He then presented his bracelet and the vampire pressed his against Milas'.

The screen appeared and the first thing Milas read was a message telling him to hurry to his class. He placed the bag numbered 57 on his back and thanked the man before following the arrow. The arrow was flashing red while pointing at a large set of double doors. Milas pushed them open and ran out only to bump into someone. He looked at the person and tried to apologize.

"I'm sor... you!"

"Watch where you'r... You Pervert!"
