1 Before

It was either early in the morning or in the middle of the night when I awoke. I was shivering violently from the cold. The fire heating the room must have burned out earlier. Looking around the dark room, I had realized it was pitch black outside which was unusual for Berk. Normally there was some source of like from the torches or the dragons (or the twins occasionally lighting something on fire.) The only sound I could hear was toothless snoring quietly from the wall post directly above me. The outline of his tale was swaying slightly signifying he was probably having a dream about chasing something or flying. I slowly moved into a sitting position on the bed trying not to bump into Toothless's tail to awake the adorable dragon. My leg was right beside the bed so I reached down grabbed it and, swung both or my legs over the side of the bed to begin to strap it on.

I stood up and walked to the small wood pile in the corner of my room. *Tap Tap.* I looked around startled, and begun searching for the noise. My mind immediately started thinking of the possibilities that Jack might be home and I kept telling myself not to let myself get my hopes up. He had been away for much longer than usual and to be honest, I was worried to death. I just wanted to be in his embrace again and Toothless missed him. A purring sound came from behind me signifying that sleeping beauty was awake. I then saw the area in front of me light up then the entire room was lit. "Thanks, bud." I whispered. Toothless then crept up beside of me and I pet his head *purr* was his only response. *Tap Tap* The noise was definitely originating from the window. A smile began to develop on my face and I looked at Toothless to see he was doing the same.

Both of us began to walk to the window. "Jack?!" I called out. Nothing. "You could have come home sooner you know. *Laugh*Both of us missed you a lot." A silence was the only response that came. My smile soon faded and Toothless and I had reached the window. There was a small blood spot on the window probably where the tapping had originated. I began to open the window and looked down. "Hello?" I half whisper yelled into the darkness. It was too dark outside to see anything from up here. "Come on Toothless." I had strapped on the other half of Toothless's tail and begun to walk downstairs with him. He would light every candle we went by so I wouldn't trip or fall. We reached the entrance to My home and he lit the fireplace. The entire house was lit up like it was Christmas. I slowly opened the door, walked out and asked once again, "Jack? Are you there?" I stood there in the cold until Toothless bumped into me while walking past me. "What are you doing?" I asked as he walked around to where my window was. A sad purr followed. "Toothless where are you?" I began to walk to find my best friend. "Bud? What's wrong?" I turned the corner to see Jack laying in a pool of his own blood. I ran over and slipped into the snow, got up and sat down. Placing Jack's head in my lap I said, "Jack?! Wake up!" Tears began slowly running down my face. Toothless nudged him gently. "Hiccup..?" Jack began to open his crystal blue eyes slowly. "I'm sorry.." He said quietly. "What happened??" I began to ask frantically. I looked around his torso, lifted up his hoodie and saw the deep gash that begun at his chest down to his stomach. I looked into his eyes "Oh no.." Jack smiled and said, "I'll be fine love. Pitch was just a little stronger than I was." *Laugh* I knew better than that. "Toothless, get help." I pleaded the confused emerald eyed dragon to do. Toothless immediately began to talk in dragon tongue that basically meant to make other dragons wake their riders up and drag them out here if they didn't hear the alarm. "Hiccup I'll be fine." Jack attempted to say while trying to lean on his elbows. He groaned in pain and fell back into my lap. "Dammit Jack, stay still, please." I begged between sobs.

Lights in Bert suddenly turned on and the entire town was suddenly alive again. Both boys could hear doors slamming and dragons roaring/ talking. Some Vikings came running toward the house with swards just in case others hopped onto their dragons. "Toothless grab Gobber, please." I pleaded the dragon. He was always the last one to come up the hill when there was a situation like this. If anyone knows how to help he would. I felt Jack grab my arm "Hiccup, it's too late and you know it my little dragon." "No, it's not Jack! I love you too much to let you go I won't allow this to happen! just pleas-" Jack cut my sentence off short. "Hiccup I love you so much please don't cry." I lowered my head and looked into his eyes, tears were also rolling down his face from the pain and seeing me cry too. I began to smile slightly. "There's my dragon prince" Jack said quietly. I could hear Gobber's pleas to attempt to make Toothless drop him. I leaned down to Jack and kissed him softly before Gobber arrived. "I love you Jack" I said before I was swarmed with questions from the arriving Vikings. "Hiccup what's wr-" was most of the Vikings questions before they looked down to see my dying lover being held in my arms. I felt Jacks breathing begin to come ragged. "Help.." was all I could croak out. People began to yell where's Gobber and then saw toothless rushing toward them which caused them to make a path. Toothless dropped Gobber not to gracefully on his ass. "Now what's all the fussing about and please never tell your dragon to do that again Hiccup." Gobber said as he got up from the snow. His smile began to fade fast when he saw me holding Jack. He began barking out orders for the other Vikings. "Bring him inside Hiccup!" Gobber then began yelling at me. I picked my snow prince up earning a groan from him "I'm so sorry" I said and began to basically run inside with him, Toothless on my trail. Astrid and Gobber had shoved everything off of the dinning table and told me to put Jack on it. "Remove his shirt Hiccup." Astrid ordered. Jack screamed in pain as I did so making tears instantly poor down my face. I backed up while other Vikings held down Jack so Gobber and Astrid could try to stop the bleeding. Gobber threaded the needle and shoved it into Jack's skin. All I could hear was his screams. "Hold him down, you idiots!!!" Astrid yelled. I rushed forward only to have the twins grab my arms and try to drag me away. "Toothless!!" I yelled and my dragon growled loudly. "Don't kill us if you want Jack to live!" Tiffnut yelled at Toothless. He seemed to understand so he began to start pushing me back as well. The twins pushed me out into the snow and I tried to get back up but Toothless held me back. "Jack!!" I yelled at the top of my lungs. "Tiffnut!!! Ruffnut!!! We need you in here now!!!" they rushed inside immediately and shut the door loudly behind them. Soon after the twins entered the house, the screaming ceased.

Everyone in Berk was standing in front of my house by now. They were whispering trying to figure out what happened, some who had been here and seen filled each other in. Toothless was trying to comfort me by making soothing sounds hoping I could hear them over my sobbing. I was leaning into him and his wings were blocking most of the wind so I wouldn't have to worry about freezing.Of all the people that I hadn't wanted to see at the moment pushed their way through the crowd yelling "Get out of my way right now!" I knew it was SnotLout right away. When SnotLout reached the front of the house he looked at me in the snow. His eyes began to glimmer with amusement and a smile soon formed on his face. He enjoyed other people's pain but he enjoyed mine the most. His laughing rang in my years like poison and my blood began to instantly boil. It honestly felt like my blood had been set on fire in my veins. Toothless growled at the laughing idiot. "Why are you crying like a baby" SnotLout began mocking as soon as his laughter stopped. "Toothless, go find my bow and don't forget the arrows, okay?" I whispered quietly to my best friend. Toothless got up and was still growling. "I hope that idiot you've been dating is in there!" "He deserves it! I mean that's so wrong in multiple ways!" He laughed in my face. Everyone around him gasped at how insulting he was being to his chief. I looked up from the snow, my emerald eyes glaring into SnotLout's dull blue pairs. Everyone else begun to look terrified for I have never become this angry at someone before. They knew that my anger was worse than my fathers. "SnotLout, shut up right now." Fishlegs asked him quietly. *Laughter* "And let this gay idiot continue to insult the chief position! I think not!" He yelled while still laughing with his back turned towards me. Toothless trotted up beside me with my bow and arrows in his mouth and I took them. Slinging the quiver over my shoulder and grabbed one arrow out I put it in the bow aiming for SnotLout. Everyone began to back up slowly. "I said shut the fuck up SnotLout." He slowly turned around, aware everyone including Fishlegs had back up a little from him. He was still smiling that hateful smile of his and he laughed as soon as he saw my arrow aimed at his leg. "You wouldn't dare! *Laughter* Everyone would hate you for it!" He yelled while laughing his ass off. "Lets put it to a vote then shall we?" I responded. "Everyone that says it's okay if I shoot this arrow through SnotLout's Leg come stand beside me. Anyone else stands by that insufferable bloating idiot." The Vikings surrounding the outer perimeter by the house looked shocked I suggested such a thing. "See I told you!" SnotLout yelled at me while the smile on his face increased. Fishlegs was the first to slowly walk over to my side. "I'm so sick and tired of SnotLout being an ass and I bet the rest of you are too." After Fishlegs said that everyone began to walk toward me and the smile soon began to fade. No one had stayed to help him. Toothless purred in agreeance while sitting beside me. For almost an entire hour, more screaming was heard that night.

The sun seeped through the trees when Gobber exited my house. I smiled thinking Jack was fine, that they saved him and everything would go back to normal. I sat up from Toothless waking him up in the process. His ears perked up wondering how it went as well, then he growled quietly and his ears slowly went down. Gobber approached me with his head lowered to the snow where there were dried blood spots from SnoutLout having an arrow shot into his leg. Sitting Indian style my smile faded slowly when I actually looked at Gobber closely. He was covered in blood and the faint smell of it was emanating off of him and became stronger the closer he got to me. I quit smiling when he stood in front of me, kneeled down and looked me in the eyes which had a tear looking ready to escape. "No" I said quietly. Gobber placed a hand on my shoulder. "Hiccup it was too late." He said "No no no no" I yelled each time getting louder and louder until I was screaming in pure agony. I pushed Gobber's hand off of me and began to run to my home. "Hiccup don't!" He yelled at me. His pleas only came to me as a whisper. My heart was beating so hard in my chest and the ringing sound became so loud..everything was basically inaudible. When I reached the door the twins tried to stop me but I pushed through them with the help of Toothless. Astrid held a knife in her hand and tried to force me out so I wouldn't see Jack. Toothless growled looking ready to attack and she backed down immediately knowing she wouldn't win that fight. I walked past her only to see blood everywhere. Jack's body was surrounded by ice and a pool of blood that looked like it was being frozen. Tears formed in my eyes as soon as I walked up to his body. His face was toward me, eyes open and mouth remotely open. His wound was wide open stitches all over the place but appears to be torn open. Ice with a blackness cased inside was around the wound holding it open. I looked into Jack's eyes which were once piercing blue were now white as snow. They were void of life. I laid my head on the table and sobbed quietly to myself for the rest of the day.

The funeral was held the next day.
