A Thousand Worlds

A not so average life ends, and a second one begins. A chance to redeem? Nahhhhhh, a chance to live out dreams would be a more apt description! But as with all, a simple man living out his dreams isn't quite the best of the best, nor the most of entertaining. A chat group (a certainly peculiar one) has been thrown into the mix as well. ==== Find extra chapters at: p@treon.com/stoned_face

Learn Magic? You Have No Need

Kingdom of Lugnica,

The Sanctuary,

??? POV,

"They came here because of the mana surges I suppose." Beatrice muttered folding her arms, one of the three Great Demon Beasts, The Great Rabbit. Infinitely Multiplying and endless hunger with jaws capable of tearing through flesh like paper. She looked to the sky, the weather had been turning colder and colder by the second and now the ground was covered in snow. Strong winds bombarded the area even making her own long hair sway about in the wind.

Beatrice currently stood near the tomb, cruel as it was, her only priority at this moment was protecting her contractor, Samuel rather than a village of demihumans. Even then, a difficult expression formed on her face looking at the villagers running towards this place in desperation, some distance behind them a great white mass could be seen moving at incredible speeds.

"No wonder it looked familiar." A familiar voice made her breathe a sigh of relief, with Samuel out they could just teleport away from this place. Samuel scratched the back of his head, the great rabbit..... it was a terrifying creature....., the best and most efficient choice would be simply to retreat.... God knew he could do it, with Beatrice being capable of teleportation, running away was easy.

...

...

'But you won't do that, will you?' Echidna's voice entered his head making Samuel nod solemnly, he may be unfair for doing this but, "I forbid you from reading my thoughts and emotions, furthermore, I restrict you to knowing what I know and seeing what I see." Samuel put a hand on the tomb wall, his fingers embedding them into the marble as silence permeated his head, '...I'm distraught.... but I expected this...' Echidna knew she wouldn't get to know his feelings and thoughts.....but oh well, the other two weren't so bad, the purpose of this contract was knowledge wasn't it?

Pulling out his phone, he once more put it on record and this time threw it to Beatrice, the great spirit already knew what she was to do with it and pointed it downwards. Perhaps a shitty move....but money.

Veins popped out on Samuel's arm as the silver haired teen took a step forward, gritting his teeth.. "What are you...doing?" Beatrice looked at him in surprise, was he seriously trying to-, cracks appeared on the tomb wall.

Same Location,

??? POV,

Garfiel ran at the back, distorting the ground as he did trying to slow down the progression of the beast behind them. He had to defend these people at all costs, even if he died for it! He sent one gaze towards Ryuzu who moved at the front, leading the rest towards the tomb where they could find cover from these things, if only slightly.

He then looked towards the tomb itself, Samuel stood there with a hand on the tomb... the rest Garfiel couldn't make out because of the distance between them..... "Why is he just standing there?" Garfiel questioned out loud, why the fuck was he just standing there? Not even trying to help them... After spouting all that bullshit, he would abandon people?!

Though, soon enough, he found the answer to his question, a roar echoed through the area followed by the sound of something tearing through the air. Garfiel looked up to see a shadow pass them at immense speeds and then, the ground shook as something crashed right behind him... "What the....hell?" Garfiel's eyes widened in disbelief..... a giant part of the tomb had crashed right behind them, crushing a great amount of rabbits kicking up dust and snow.

The rest of the creatures had no choice but to circle around it as they had no real way of moving over what blocked their passage and that provided ample time for the villagers to reach the stairs leading up to the tomb itself.

Same Location,

Samuel POV,

Samuel stretched his arm, "Jesus." his ability truly was broken, a burning feeling once more enveloped his body as he exuded steam. He looked at his hand which had signs of tearing with a small smile, that was a wild one but it ended up working so all was good.

"Are you really human?" Beatrice asked in disbelief, what he had done just then was straight up rip out a part of the tomb and throw it at the incoming demon beast. "You should be able to tell." Samuel replied with a cheeky smile, even if slightly abnormal, he was still human, through and through.

Samuel took a deep breath, thinking calmly, there was no way to beat these things. Beatrice could remove them completely had she her complete mana reserves, unfortunately for them, she didn't.

Moreover, these things multiplied at insane speeds and could do so infinitely, at the same time, they shared one single consciousness and the only thing on their 'mind' was eating to sate their never ending hunger. He could fight them forever and yet, never win. "Help me out will you?" He sighed, relying on others wasn't really a nice feeling but there was no other way except abandoning these people.... some part of him told him it was alright to do so but no, he had made his decision.

'80,000 pests. Can rip through steel and flesh with their bites, multiply infinitely but possess an upper limit, can not discriminate between their own, intelligence is barely present.' Echidna listed out her observations with what Samuel knew was a smug smile, 'Barely an inconvenience but.... to use me so quickly and as a weapon... I feel conflicted.'

"Betty can-." Beatrice, thinking she was the one being addressed, was quick to voice out her desires but Samuel smiled and ruffled her hair, "Just a second."

Beatrice tilted her head in confusion... if not her then who was he communicating with?

"How?" Samuel asked shamelessly, it was too late to be considering things like shame. 'I am still the Witch of Greed you know, the strongest magic caster this world has ever seen.' Echidna voiced out her own accomplishments like a teenager just before sighing and taking it more seriously, 'You are the conduit, the mana I'll syphon from the air. All you need to do is name the spell.'

She quickly explained how it would work to Samuel who couldn't help but think that it really was a wise decision to accept the contract she offered, with how she put it, he himself didn't even need to know or learn magic at all. She had the knowledge, and would obtain the mana from the atmosphere in a manner similar to spirits... All he had to do was be the medium.... in other words, sit back and watch the show.

Samuel raised a hand towards the approaching beasts and just as the villagers started climbing the stairs,

"Huma."

As the word left his mouth, a great wall of water erupted to the sky from the ground, completely blocking off the Great Rabbit. Following this, water erupted from nearly all sides covering a wide area that spanned several miles completely encaging the beast within it.

Samuel's eyes opened wide in awe and surprise and so did the eyes of everyone bearing witness to the great magical feat that 'he' had brought about.

'Hm hm, you were underestimating me weren't you?' Echidna spoke out smugly, a hint of arrogance in her voice.

"Yeah, my bad." Samuel nodded in agreement, Echidna was the greatest magic caster in this world, a world where magic worked by directly affecting reality itself.

A few moments passed in silence, the few residents of the village that had escaped watched on in awe while Beatrice stared at Samuel with a difficult expression on her face, with this level of magic, what use did he have for? He really, really did just call her along just for the sake of it.... she wanted to hug him.

'Now then, finish them off.'

"Al Shario."

Seconds passed in silence, nothing had happened.... more time passed and still, nothing had happened. However, Beatrice's eyes were now wide in complete shock, she recognised that spell..... how wouldn't she? It was her mother's.

Just as Samuel was about to question whether or not something had gone wrong with deployment, a giant magic circle formed overhead, nearly covering the whole sky.... and soon, a noise of epic amplitude made the villagers cover their ears lest they lose their hearing.

Something tore through the air and then, in the next instant, everything lit up, the snow that had covered the area evaporated and rose to the sky as steam. For an instant, it seemed as if there was a second Sun in the sky.

That Sun then fell to the ground as a gigantic puff of smoke, comparable to that of a nuclear warhead, rose to the sky.

Minutes passed in silence as the smoke slowly disappeared.

"Holy....shit." Samuel stumbled back in both awe and surprise, everything, quite literally everything within the barrier had been incinerated. The very ground itself had been ravaged, smoke rose from a crater spanning miles, the depths near the centre not even visible while what was visible appeared molten and soft?

It was as if.... some God had passed judgement.

The ding that came from the phone went unheard by everyone even with it's audibility.

"A meteor?"

'Yup.'

"What if there was no barrier?"

'....Don't mind the small stuff.'

"That's not.....small stuff."

'.....Tee hee?'

And Echidna..... is one of the strongest people in Re Zero. See how she can be useful?

Her knowledge isn't really limited to magic but even if it was, you just saw how that works.

If someone is confused I'll elaborate, a gun needs a bullet to deal damage or it fires blanks. Echidna is the bullet and Samuel is the gun.... except the gun is a doomsday variant.... I think it still works as an example. She used him as a medium for deployment of her own spells. Syphoning the mana required from the area, she passed on the information to him and his body used it as something like muscle memory to deploy the spells.

So, Magic is worth shit to Samuel but this way, he still is capable of using it better than most even if he doesn't learn it. His main form of offense is physical combat, martial arts to be precise, but there's situations where that isn't enough.

Bluntly put, he could never have beat the Great Rabbit without any help.
