A Thousand Worlds

A not so average life ends, and a second one begins. A chance to redeem? Nahhhhhh, a chance to live out dreams would be a more apt description! But as with all, a simple man living out his dreams isn't quite the best of the best, nor the most of entertaining. A chat group (a certainly peculiar one) has been thrown into the mix as well. ==== Find extra chapters at: p@treon.com/stoned_face

Tokyo, Japan,

Nerima Ward,

Samuel POV,

Samuel casually twirled a pen in his hand, wearing a completely different plain white shirt as compared to his earlier black one and Miko walked beside him holding a plastic bag.

"So, it's like ....inherent?" The teenage girl was both curious and awed, a sharp contrast to the shock that was to be expected of her but, Samuel understood that she was probably completely numb to anything below a certain degree with how hectic her everyday life must've been with literal ghosts hulking around.

"I guess it is. I can just grab on and consume them." Samuel answered plainly, as if he was speaking nothing but the truth.. even though he was lying through his teeth right now, "It's pretty weird now that I think about it.."

'It's just them being swallowed by a superior entity.' Echidna huffed, somewhat smug about herself.

"U-Um, yeah it is." Miko nodded with a slight stutter, maybe he could get rid of the ones at her home? Though, she didn't quite get how to go about asking him to do that. Even if Samuel was her cousin, they weren't close enough for her to be making such requests.

Samuel rubbed his chin thoughtfully, he needed to deal with the ones harassing Miko at her home. No particular reason, it was more of, why not?

Tokyo, Japan,

Yotsuya Residence,

Mei POV,

Mei hummed, sitting on one of the sofas in the living room with her legs folded, a small smile adorned her face as she looked around in curiosity, "This is strange.." She mumbled out, certain parts of the room looked 'damp' compared to the others, the otherwise vibrant colours seemed to be dampened out.

What the older woman didn't know was that, the animalistic yet humanoid gigantic ghost with golden fur covering it's body was looming about her, observing Mei in curiosity, could she see it?

The door to the house was opened by Samuel and Miko who had just returned from their earlier excursion. However, both teenagers nearly stopped in place once they entered the living room. Miko, was confused for the most part, seeing her aunt reaching out for the creature near her as if she could see it..... Could she?

...Wasn't she in a lot of danger then?

In contrast, Samuel's reaction was far more animated and outward, the pen he had been twirling shot towards the ghost, enveloped by the miasma Miko knew he used to deal with these things.

"Oh welcome ba-...?!" Mei's smile turned to a confused one seeing Samuel run up to her and stand over her with a big smile on his face.

"....I'm back." His voice quaked a bit mid-sentence but otherwise, he appeared well and normal. Mei slowly nodded at her son, "Something wrong?"

Miko's eyes slightly widened, her hands reaching her mouth out of fright, no one else saw it but she definitely did. The 'ghost' had screeched in pain and swung it's clawed hand blindly smashing it into Mei... or so it would have, had Samuel not blocked the hit.... with his body..

What was wrong with him?

Why the hell was he so careless?

Where was the self preservation instinct known to man?

When did he stop caring about himself?

How was such a thing even possible?

Miko.. couldn't understand how someone like that could exist. She'd lived with these things all her life too and her own thoughts mostly revolved around staying safe.. To not fear them but to even throw himself in front of them to protect someone? Miko found her cousin to be an admirable person.

Right now though, right now she was just worried about whether he was fine.. which he obviously wouldn't be.

Samuel stretched his arms, unfazed by the creature screeching behind him, "Just gimme a moment.." He gave his mother a small thumbs up, a cheeky grin plastered on his face.

Mei nodded, "Sure." Why did she get a feeling that there was more going on here than she could see?

Samuel, receiving affirmation, turned towards the entity behind him, miasma leaked like black smoke from his hand as he reached out for it's face. In response, the 'entity' shuddered and took a step back.

It didn't have any intelligence nor did it have the ability to think.... but, it's very instincts told it to avoid the teenager's extended hand.

However, the decision to obey it's instincts was made just a moment too late, Samuel's hand firmly gripped it's head and with a blank emotionless face, he crushed it within his palm. Tendrils of miasma slowly enveloped the rest of the body, consuming it in but an instant before disappearing as if nothing had ever been there.

Miko breathed out a sigh of relief, it was slowly setting in that to her cousin, these things weren't even much of a threat. Nonetheless, she rushed over to him with hurried steps, looking over his back (which had been hit earlier), her eyes carried a hint of worry.

"Are you two doing some kind of act?" Mei narrowed her eyes with a suspicious gaze, there was no other explanation for it. On an unrelated note, the damp atmosphere she was feeling was completely gone now.

"Ahaha, yeah. Guess you figured it out." Samuel just laughed, scratching the back of his head with a small smile, there was no need for his mother to know or worry herself about such things.

"Hm hm, I'm pretty observant too y'know." Mei nodded with a smug smile, her arms folded.... her son was hiding something from her.

Unknowingly, a small smile formed on Miko's face as she heard their small exchange, just like her, Samuel too chose to not have others know about things like these and live their lives normally. As for his back, it was unharmed, even the clothes were intact. Miko surmised that the miasma seemed to be protecting him from damage too..... It was a cheat... Why didn't she have something like that?

Kyosuke, who had been watching TV all this time, glanced at the three people from the corner of his eye, what were they all up to? Acting all strange, he didn't get it at all so, he just went back to his show, ignoring them completely.

"We should be heading back now." Samuel noted in a calm tone, checking his phone.

It had just rung randomly just now after all.

It was a message, the sender was anonymous but the contents made it easy to figure out who it was, "Come back to the school for a bit, I assure you I just desire a civilised conversation."

"Ehh? Why so soon?" Mei slightly complained, they had just arrived not an hour ago. She wanted to spend a bit more time with her sister!

"Then, can I at least leave? Something came up. Please?" Samuel slightly bowed his head, he was free anyway. Koharu would be an annoying person to have as an enemy so he'd much rather just maintain cordial relations with the eccentric girl.

"....Fine." Mei folded her arms before an idea crossed her mind and her visage visibly brightened, "But you have to pick me up, then Rin." She had wanted today to be a bit of a bonding day for them.

"Done." Samuel instantly agreed, it was what he planned to do anyway.

He looked at Miko, "I guess we'll talk later."

"Y-Yeah.." The golden eyed girl nodded meekly, there was one more ghost in her home but... it was her father's..... She couldn't bring herself to ask Samuel to get rid of him. They had each other's contact information now so they could talk later too.

On a somewhat related note, Samuel's list of contacts was now slowly, but surely, growing.
